A Word from the President
Tom Tesch
Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Thomas
Tesch. I’ve had the privilege of serving on the board
since 2017 prior to my election as President. I held
many positions along the way including Vice Presi-
dent in 2019. I am humbled and grateful to serve as
President of our “Little Piece of Up-North.”
My wife Nicole and I have two kids, Grace and Grif-
fin. I enjoy shooting regardless of discipline. I regu-
larly participate in the pistol, rifle, shotgun, and ar-
chery offered by the club. I am involved with IDPA
and UML competitions throughout the country. I’ve
seen many clubs as I’ve traveled, and I believe we
have the best club around. My goal is to continue
facilitating growth and amenity improvements, so
we are not only the best in Michigan, but the best in
the country.
I am very excited to see our F.I.R.E.A.R.M.S pro-
ject progressing nicely. Change is scary but it is a
necessity to better serve our members. As our rang-
es change and grow, I would like to see our volun-
teer crew grow as well. Everything at the club is
done by volunteers giving their time so others can
enjoy the amenities of OUR club. It’s not one per-
son’s job to empty the trash, if you see it’s full, emp-
ty it. If there is something around the club you see
needs to be done, do it. If you need help ask, and we
will find you help. We can only make OUR club the
best, by teamwork.
Our 21st Annual All Sportsmen Banquet is com-
ing up on March 21st. If you haven’t gotten your tick-
ets yet, see any board member, stop by the club-
house on Tuesdays or Saturdays, or call me. We
will get you taken care of. It’s a great way to support
OUR club and all our wonderful programs we put on
for free.
I thank you for the opportunity to serve as Presi-
dent. If you have suggestions, comments, or con-
cerns please reach out to me. I may not have the an-
swers, but I will get you the answers.
Regards,
Thomas Tesch

Shot & Wad
by Mike Meyer
As our Traveling Winter Trap League approaches it’s fifth shoot, our club is still 10
targets ahead of Shiawassee and 21 ahead of Brant. We have two more shoots to go,
So anything can happen. Hopefully, we can hold them off and retain to trophy.
A gentleman came in a couple of weeks ago and dropped off a truck load of reloading supplies
that he was donating to the club. C. Barrie Lockwood said that he was giving up Bullseye Shooting
and decided to clean house, or at least, his reloading room. Many thanks to Barrie, we will be able
to sell this gold mine of bullets, brass and loaded shells to our members, and help pay down our
loan debt with the proceeds.
Don’t forget our 21st Annual Spring Sports Banquet coming up on 21st of March. We are al-
ready closing in on having half the banquet tickets sold with a little over a month to go as I write
this. This should be one of our best banquets ever. With over 50 guns, a large gun safe, a large
flat screen TV and over $20,000 worth of other prizes, you won’t want to miss this one. Tickets are
$60 apiece, or $110 a couple, and includes a Horizons Buffet Dinner and an Open Bar. See The
flyer elsewhere in this letter to get your tickets.
Congratulations to Ken Debelak for shooting his first 25 straight in Skeet.
Here are the shooters that broke 25 straight from January 29 thru February 22.

What your MUCC dues goes for!
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is seeking input from the public on management efforts for cor-morants. The proposed rule would establish a permit for state wildlife agencies to authorize management techniques that were previously prohibited.
States would have the delegated authority to determine whether, when, where and for what purposes to con-trol cormorants within limits set by the USFWS. Michigan United Conservation Clubs is in strong support of reinstating cormorant control per several member-passed resolutions.
The public comment period will expire on March 9. To submit a comment, click here.
When making your comments, consider using these talking points:
• Michigan hosts about 55% of the interior population’s breeding pairs and can be considered “ground zero” for the negative effects of cormorants.
•
• Cormorants, a federally-protected, fish-eating bird, feed primarily on alewives and round gobies but also significant numbers of stocked trout, salmon and yellow perch.
•
• Research has firmly established the linkage between cormorant predation on fish populations and their decline in Saginaw Bay and the Les Cheneaux perch fishery.
•
• Stocking of trout and salmon becomes impractical when cormorant numbers at stocking sites become excessive — this continues to occur throughout lakes Michigan and Huron.
•
• A passed MUCC resolution calls for the significant reduction in the cormorant population in Michigan through lethal management efforts such as the taking of cormorants, eggs and nests.
• If you would like to learn more about cormorant management, the USFWS has compiled several documents here: https://www.fws.gov/regulations/cormorant/resources
The public comment period will expire on March 9. We urge you to support cormorant control by submitting
public comments here to protect our investments in stocking and fisheries management here in Michigan!

Michigan United Conservation Clubs
Youth Camp
The camp is located near Chelsea Michigan. It is a
perfect place for learning the outdoors. Saginaw Field
and Stream Club is assisting six kids to attend this
camp by covering $250 of the $450 cost to attend the
camp. At this time we have four boys who are regis-
tered with two open slots remaining. Remember this
camp is for both boys and girls with a weekly camp
program like this. Everyone will enjoy all the standard
camp activities such as swimming, boating, archery
and shooting. Plus a choice of a special area of inter-
est of their own.
For the ages of 9 to 11 session during the weeks of
June 28 thru July 31st. They have a choice of four
special areas such as, Conservation Connection (a
good one for first timers) Fishing Camp, Wetland
Wonders or Fantastic Forests.
For ages 12 to 14 session during the weeks of July
12 thru August 7th, the special areas are Hunting Her-
itage, Wilderness Survival, Young Naturalist or Fur
Harvesters.
You must register through the Saginaw Field and
Stream Club, contact Chuck Hoover at 989-790-3836
