NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING
of the St. Mark Lutheran
Church Congregation on Sunday, November 04th, 2012
Immediately following the 8:00 am worship service in the Sanctuary.
The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss and decide on whether to acquire the neighboring property at 1724 East Grand Avenue at a purchase price of $280,000. Should the Congregation decide to acquire the property; the
Congregation will also have to authorize the Church Council to borrow funds in order to do so.
Under the Constitution a quorum of ten percent of voting members must be present at the meeting and a two thirds majority vote is required in order to approve the acquisition.
The Annual Congregational Meeting will be on
Sunday, November 11, 2012
immediately following the 8:00 am service.
Copies of the Annual Report are available
on the table outside the church office
for your review.
Under the new Constitution, this annual meeting
includes the election of the new council members,
the approval of the 2012 annual reports
and approval of the 2013 budget.
For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Come, let us bow down in
worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;
for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the
flock under his care. Psalm 95:3-7

Life is a series of
ups and downs.
For some, the hard
times can be
overwhelming.
God never intended us to go through these tough times alone. St. Mark has an active Stephen Ministry program that is here to serve. Stephen Ministers go through several months of formal training. We are not ordained ministers but have signed a covenant to minister to those in need. We meet on a one on one basis. You may just feel the need for a sounding board, and we are here to listen. If you are experiencing difficult times and would someone to talk to, please contact us. There is no charge and the conversation is ALWAYS kept confidential. Please contact Judy Kless or the church office for more information.

Missouri Musings:
“TheGospeltoAllNations”
byBobYarbrough
When you read this, Pastor Shields and I will be about to leave for Africa. We depart on October 27. We go because Jesus said, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19). By training pastors in this far-away land, Pastor Shields and I obey Jesus' command. By sending us, St. Mark likewise fulfills the will of Christ. Many of you will be praying for us as we travel and teach. Once we get there, here is what our days look like.

Our days start around 6 a.m. They often end at 11 p.m. or later. We have to adjust to a 9 hour time difference. Each teaching session is about three hours long. When we are not teaching, we are often consulting with church leaders or reviewing for our next session. We always welcome and count on your prayers. If you want to deepen your insight into world mission needs, I recommend the book by Patrick Johnstone, The Future of
the Global Church: History, Trends, and Possibilities (Downers Grove: InterVarsity, 2011). It is a fantastic resource, whether for information, encouragement, or challenge. As you know, you send us to a country that sets up barriers to the gospel. Johnstone's book (above) says, "The barriers can be broken down only by prayer followed by innovative and courageous action" (p. 237).
Pastor Shields and I are more methodical and plodding than "innovative and courageous." But as we do our part (teaching) and you do yours (praying), God can surmount barriers. We trust God for great things during the 26th Seminar of the Center for Biblical Studies.

Dear Friends, With the elections right around the corner this is a very serious moment for our country. Those
on St Mark’s prayer chain have been praying seven days a week for the elections since late spring. We are praying that God would put into office men and women who will humble themselves before the Lord and follow God’s Word. As we have learned through our study of Isaiah, when a nation turns against the Lord, God sends forth judgment so the people of God will see their sin, repent, and return to the Lord. Therefore, we have been praying earnestly for God to reawaken his church by pouring out upon us anew God’s Holy Spirit. We are asking for renewal and revival that will spread across the nation.
The rise of Atheism in our nation is alarming as church attendance declines nationwide. Being silent as a Christian is no longer an option. We are studying Martin Lutheran and the German Reformation in confirmation. Viewing the movie “Luther” as a class one point became so very clear to me. Luther stood before the most powerful people in the world and refused to recant what he had written about the Pope and the Roman church. I know none of us will stand in such a place as did Luther. But I do know this. When a society is moving away from the Lord God and his holy word you will find yourself in a place(s) where you will have to take a stand for Christ. It may not be in front of an emperor as did Luther. But it will be in front of a neighbor, a friend, even a member of your own family. Jesus spoke these words, “Whoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father, which is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32-22 KJV). May God give us a fresh boldness to proclaim his word and may the Lord forgive us for being quiet when it was right to speak.
When you read this Pastor Shield’s and Dr. Yarbrough will be on their mission trip. I would like us to pray now for them. Dear Heavenly Father, please use these men powerfully as they teach your holy word. May they have safety as they travel and please protect them completely. Help the men and women traveling to the conference to arrive safely and without any harm. May the Holy Spirit richly descend upon each one at the conference and cause Jesus to be glorified mightily. Please protect each one from evil. May Pastor Shield’s and Dr. Yarbrough be in excellent health and please give to them the wisdom to know what to say and what not to say. This we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
God Bless You, Pastor Terry Breum

St. Mark Library
Is That Really You, God? by Loren Cunningham is first of all a story, the story of a young man with a big dream. But it is also a virtual textbook in the art of hearing. As a very young man, Cunningham saw the potential for God’s kingdom in the energy of millions of young men and women, still in their teens and early twenties, anxious to see a better world. He saw a vision of waves of such people moving out across the continents to announce the good news of the gospel to this rebelling earth. By the early 1980’s Cunningham’s vision materialized into a worldwide, energetic force, Youth
With a Mission. This book details how God moved from vision to reality by leading Cunningham and his wife through a series of tough lessons in guidance, as well as through the mistakes they made. There is much to learn from Loren Cunningham in the art of listening. As we seek to be used by God we must learn to hear Him properly, then obey. The hardest part was what launched the Cunningham’s out into the deep… You can find this book under call number 267 CUN.

During the Advent season, we will be preparing our hearts for the coming
of the Christ child during three Wednesday night Advent worship
services, December 5th, December 12th, and 19th. In order to make it
easier for everyone, especially families, to come and worship we will be
serving a soup and sandwich supper on each of the Wednesday nights
from 5:30 – 6:45pm. Soups and desserts will be donated and the
sandwich fixings and drinks will be provided. Bring your own place
setting and help us go green! A free will donation will be taken. This is a
wonderful time of fellowship and good warm food. Moms (and dads) this is one night you don’t
have to worry about getting supper for your family. Come to church and have your family fed
physically and spiritually. Be sure to come and join us for food, fellowship and worship! If you
would like to volunteer to bring soup, help serve on one of the Wednesday nights, or help Lisa
coordinate the meals, please contact Lisa Shields
