It requires 59 people operating four shifts to pro- vide 6,000 meals every day, according to Catering Chair Amy Rouse. “It’s truly a huge, balanc- ing guessing game,” she said. The kitchen operates 24 hours per day, using the school district’s food supply resources. The staff has to make sure there’s enough food available to serve a rush but not too much so food doesn’t go to waste. They also have to accom- modate various dietary needs such as vegetarian and nut, egg and gluten allergies. The main cafeteria is at Lathrop High School, where the athletes are staying. Senate committee proposes $9.1 billion budget

JUNEAU — The Senate Finance Com-mittee has proposed a $9.1 billion state operating budget, comparable in size to the package recently passed by the Alas-ka House.

Feeding 2,000 athletes during the Arctic Winter Games is no small chal-lenge. It requires 59 people operating four shifts to pro-vide 6,000 meals every day, according to Catering Chair Amy Rouse.
