RAFFLE TICKET DRAWING HELD JUNE 14 at the ALRV monthly board meeting. Y Dear Crier Editor, My family and I attended the pancake breakfast at Applebees on June 5th. What a wonderful event! It was great to see so many Village residents there and also very fun to have Village friends be the wait staff. Thanks to the ALRV com- mittee for organizing this event. I hope it raised a lot of money for the fireworks and I look forward to attending more LRV pancake breakfasts! Thea Mussman, LRV Resident Editor Response: Many Village residents may not know that the ALRV pays for our fireworks. This in- cludes the cost of the fireworks themselves, labor, insurance coverage, spot-a-pot, and event tape. Also board members and sev- eral volunteers post the event tape prior to the fireworks and clean up the fields the next morning. It is a huge undertaking – but all worth it. from councilman David MarksThe baltimore County Council will deal with three important milestones this year: the budget, redistricting, and rezoning. The first of those milestones is now behind us, as the County Council has passed the FY 2012 budget.

The new budget avoids both tax increas-es and steep cuts in important county services. The income and property tax rates are unchanged, and thanks to cuts in unfilled positions, the county work-force will be the smallest in 25 years. i credit the County executive for produc-ing a fiscally prudent budget plan that avoids the tax increases, layoffs, and furloughs we have seen in other juris-dictions.

During the budget deliberations, I asked the library director to consider a plan to restore full service status to the loch raven branch. This can hopefully be accomplished as we emerge from the recession and more funding is available.

With the budget done, the County Coun-cil will now consider redistricting. i expect a redistricting map will be final-ized by september.

At that point, we will start the Com-prehensive Zoning Map process. every property in baltimore County can be rezoned. rezoning affects the land use and development allowed on any prop-erty. i will be actively meeting with com-munity leaders and property owners as this process unfolds.

Again, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or (410) 887-3384 if you have any ques-tions or concerns.

cOP Pre-Vacation tips:

With summer and vacation season, many Village residents will be hitting the road to enjoy time at the shore, the mountains, or a variety of other vacation venues. before you leave home be sure to take steps to make your home safe while you’re away. Here are a few things to take care of:

• Stop the newspaper delivery.

• Postpone mail delivery or have a neighbor collect it.

• Have someone cut the grass. Then you can cut theirs when they’re away.

• Leave one or more lights on in the house. Better still, put them on a timer.

• Have someone keep an eye on your home and report anything out of order.

• For those of us still at home, “If you see something, say something.”

• Enjoy your time away, travel safely, and come home refreshed!

Great job Village residents.

June code Enforcementloch raven Village will have a code enforcement sweep sometime during the month of June 2011. The code enforce-ment team will be looking for improper storage of trash, fallen gutters, etc.

it is a yearly follow-up from the sweep done in 2010. residents who have viola-tions will receive a written notice and be given time to rectify the problems.
