Sure; I’ll Drive My Corvette To Work Submitted by Chris Capshaw

As if anybody needed an excuse to drive their Corvette to work, one day in June is officially designated as “Drive Your Corvette To Work Day.” On Friday, June 30th, 1953, the very first Corvette rolled off the assembly line. Therefore, to honor and celebrate the legend and birth of America’s only true sports car, the last Friday in June has been identified as the official Drive Your Corvette To Work Day. On June 26th, numerous members of our club assembled at Bird Dog BBQ on Centennial Blvd, to celebrate this grandiose event, enjoy some wonderful BBQ, and most of all some great camaraderie. A total of 39 Corvettes assembled in the parking lot, some of which travelled from as far away as Canon City and Denver. About six club members who could not bring their Corvettes, showed up anyway, and joined in on the fun. During the whole event, a lot of laughter was overheard, and a bunch of smiles were seen. Besides, isn’t having a good time the reason to own a Corvette, and be a member of our club?

CSCC CONEZONE AUTOCROSS June 28, 2020 Submitted by Gwenda Valentine

Drifting Championship Trophies

Thanks Wayne!

Race 2

Race 3

The Cone Zone School /Driving Experience and Autocrosses held at PPIR were the first 2020 sanctioned events in the Rocky Mountain Region - thanks to the Covid-19 issue. The Cone Zone School is the only beginner opportunity in the region. As the day played out, twelve drivers hit the track for the first time for a practice session. Each driver had about 4 or 5 runs on the autocross track before the sanctioned 3 autocrosses began. The 3 autocrosses gave participants a chance to find their best time out of a total 9 runs. After the autocrosses, we had the first ever – Circle Drift! Four participants smoked their tires with style. 1st Place – Jared Urenda, 2nd Place – Jay Valentine, 3rd Place – Tom Ury. Undertaking the combination of events that are offered throughout the day does not happen without the support of a CSCC members. The chairpeople, Tom and Vicki Ury, Larry and Gwenda Valentine, and Wayne Umland, would like to thank the many members that stepped up to help make this year’s Cone Zone event EXCEPTIONAL. Our non-driving volunteers were Todd Butts, Steve Dombrowski, Boyce Greenard, John Gue, Mike and Tracey Hayes, Jerry Ludke, Pete Olejnik, Tom Philips, Brent Renholm and son Jeremy, Susan Umland, and John and Colleen Williams.

Get to Know Your Fellow Members An Interview with Tricia Jackson

by Diana Dittman

How long have you been a CSCC member? Since June 2018. What Corvette(s) do you currently own? A 2008 3LT crystal red coupe that she has had for 10 years. Her friend, Jerry Fox, (also a club member) talked her into joining CSCC. Marital Status? Tricia has been divorced for 5 years but was previously married for 32 years. (Her ex-husband retired as a naval officer and his career ties in with where they lived). Where are you from? Tricia grew up in Stockton, California, near Sacramento. Her parents and sisters still live there. Her sons are stationed there as well. With her ex-husbands military background, she also lived in Texas, Rhode Island, Washington, Colorado, back to California, then back to Colorado. When the move was made back to Colorado, they bought the same house they had previously lived in and where she currently lives, near the Broadmoor area. (Tricia’s oldest son is interested in buying the house as she is thinking about downsizing). Employment? Tricia had a career as a dental hygienist and has been retired for four years. She went to University of California, Davis for her schooling. Her apartment complex had many navy men living there so she had plenty of patients to practice on. While living in Washington she worked for the Navy and really enjoyed it. Kids? Two sons, ages 30 and 34. They both graduated from the Naval Academy and at this time are stationed out of San Diego. They are both married, and each has 2 daughters. Her four granddaughters are between the ages of 1-1/2 and 6. Pets? She has grand dogs which she dog sits while in California. Favorite club activity? She really enjoys socializing and meeting people. Hobbies? Let me tell you this lady is busy!! Her passion is snow skiing. She has been on many different ski patrols (and even uses her Dad’s old ski patrol belt). (She started skiing at age 4). She currently demo’s skis and flies to different locations including Lake Tahoe. She instructs on how to use ski belts for disabled skiers. She also water skis and golfs. She goes horseback riding, likes to travel, gardening (has a big yard), sews, and likes to bake pies. (she bakes her daughter in laws’ favorites, key lime, and lemon meringue.) Tricia is also an avid dancer and will go 5 nights a week when she is home. (country

western, cha-cha, tango, and waltz). She is a board member at Miramont Castle taking care of the finances. She is a member of the fraternal order of Eagles. She has been a member of the Daughters of American Revolution for 25 years. She is currently learning how to fly fish. What is the best vacation you ever took? Tricia likes to take one big trip a year and travels to California quite often to see family. She took a 3-week trip to Northern Italy and Switzerland to ski with some of the ski teams. Last year she went to Spain and Portugal. She enjoys taking river boat cruises through Germany and the surrounding countries. What is your dream corvette? The one that she has! How did your love of Corvettes come about? While staying at her condo in Florida she decided that she needed a second vehicle. It seemed that everyone in Florida had a Corvette, so she checked into it. She found one at a reasonable price and bought it. Anything else you would like to add? Tricia says that she has met some genuinely nice people in the club. When she is in town, she tries to come to club events as often as she can. Thanks for the interview Tricia!

Unsung Heroes

I try to stick to NCCC topics in these articles, however, this time I’m going to step out of the box a bit and chat about club volunteers.

Volunteers work because they want to help/contribute. Sometimes the work is not easy, or fun. Rewards for volunteers vary from watching folks have a good time, or knowing they did a good job, however, one reward that is always valued is hearing “thank you”.

Many volunteers are easy to spot – sitting at the front of the meeting or talking about the event they organized. I’d like to point out that there are other volunteers that aren’t as easily noticed. Board members – the folks that help organize activities, meetings, and generally keep the club on a good path. Maybe a thanks is in order.

Other behind the scenes folks: Larry on trailer infrastructure, Walt on the timing equipment, Williams working events they are not participating in, Todd working the grid, and Gwenda organizing registration. This list is examples and is not exhaustive. The point I am trying to make is – when you see someone helping – let them know you appreciate their efforts.

To the unsung heroes – Thank You! Govna wayne As always, these are the thoughts of Wayne Umland, and may not reflect the views of CSCC, NCCC or RMR.
