The verb “IR”
The verb ir means to go. Ir is an irregular verb (it doesn’t follow a conjugation pattern). You will have to memorize the conjugations.
The verb “IR”- conjugations
Yo voy(I go)
Tú vas(you go)
Él/ella va
Usted(he/she goes/you formal go)
Nosotros/as vamosWe go
Ellos/ellas van
Ustedes(they go/you all go)
***Please note – NO ACCENTS ON ANY OF THESE CONJUGATIONS!!

Ejemplos:
¿Cuándo van ustedes a la fiesta?
When are you all going to the party?
Vamos a las seis.
We are going at 6./We go at 6.
The verb “IR”
To ask where someone is going to, we use the phrase ¿Adónde?
Ejemplo: ¿Adónde vas?
Where are you going?/Where do you go?

Nota gramaticalA + el = al
A + el = al
The verb ir is often used with the word a (to) to say that someone is going to a specific place.
In Spanish, when the word a is followed by the word el, they combine to form the contraction al.
a + el = al
Ejemplos
Vamos al gimnasio.
We go to the gym./We are going to the gym.
Ella va a la oficina.
She goes/is going to the office.
Note: We do not use this contraction with “a la”, “a las” & “a los”. We only use it with “a + el”

You can also switch the position of the subject and the verb to form a question.
Ejemplos
María tiene una patineta.
Maria has a skateboard.
¿Tiene María una patineta?
