We were pleased with the high attendance to our regular membership meeting at Shula’s Hotel on February 10
th , 2015. Close to 50 members attended the dinner
and presentation that evening. Our speaker was Duke Okes who also conducted the two-day seminar on “Root Cause Analysis” during the day on Tuesday and Wednesday at the same hotel. The topic of the evening presentation was “Foundations of Process Management and Improvement and the Basic QC Tools.” Duke made a good point about the importance of the plan-do-check-act (PDCA) cycle and its relationship in any im-provement process with the seven basic QC tools: cause-and-effect diagram, check sheet, control charts, histogram, Pareto chart, scatter diagram, and flowchart. It was an informative, interesting, and refresher presentation for any quality profes-sional. Our appreciation goes to Duke for a well delivered topic. Congratulations to Gary Chilson for winning the door prize an Oster toaster. Our next meeting will be held jointly with Section 1515 of Greater Palm Beach and it will be at the Tropical Acres Steakhouse in Fort Lauderdale on the second Tuesday of March 2015. Speaker: Ernie Perez, Environmental Health and Safety Manager, MAPEI Corporation.
Presentation: ISO 14001 Implementation. Ernie will discuss implementation of ISO 14001 EMS at MAPEI Corporation. MAPEI is a global company, with a plant in Fort Lauderdale, producing adhe-sives, sealants, and other chemicals. The Fort Lauderdale facility, where Ernie is based, is ISO 14001 registered, and has recently won the Manufacturer of the Year Award from both, South Florida Manufacturers Association and Man-ufacturers Association of Florida. Ernie will address the implementation of the EMS, including some lessons learned, and results achieved. He will also touch on key points in the upcoming revision of the ISO 14001 standard.

Recertifying?
As you retain your RU’s remember to check that the Recertification Journal Applica-tion form you use is the current version when submitting your recertification pack-age.
If you use a form that has an out of date fee, ASQ National in Milwaukee will not update your certification until their current fee is paid. Your local Section does not set or collect the fees, the fees are collected when the approved recertification package is processed in Milwaukee.
If you use an outdated form and do not remit the full recertification fee to National, your recertification will be delayed.
You can download the current form from http://asq.org/cert/recertification.
If your membership is not current but you still select the "member" fee, the applica-tion will not be processed and your recertification will be held.
In that case, please consider renewing your membership - you'll get the lower member rates for recertifying, and many other benefits as well!"

ASQ RECERTIFICATION GUIDELINES
Have three years passed so quickly that you’re ready to recertify your ASQ Certifications? Some points to consider that will make the process quick and easy for everyone:
1. Provide corroborating documents for the recertification units (RUs) that you claim in your journal application.
2. Make sure that the RUs claimed were earned BEFORE the expiration of your certifi-cation – if not, they will apply to the next certification but not the current certification.
3. If you’re synchronizing two or more certifications, be sure to have enough RUs accumu-lated for the shortest period, i.e., the certification that expires latest (that you’re “pulling in” to the same date as the first of the certifications that are expiring).
4. SIGN THE ETHICS STATEMENT on the Recertification Journal application! This is critical – without your signature, the application will not be processed.
5. Enclose payment, made out to “ASQ” not to Section 1510, not to any person. If you wish to make payment by credit card, sign the credit card section AND ALSO BE SURE TO SIGN THE ETHICS STATEMENT – there are TWO different signatures for two differ-ent purposes.
6. Please DO NOT send your application by private carrier (DHL, UPS, FedEx, etc.) – pri-vate carriers cannot deliver to Post Office boxes.
7. Please DO NOT send your application by Certified Mail or by Express Mail. Certainly these deliver to PO Boxes, but they require in-person signature for receipt which may delay your application. If you feel you must have delivery confirmation, pay the much smaller cost (less than a dollar) and get delivery confirmation through the post office.

Job Description
Role Title: Quality Assurance Manager
Purpose: To ensure the quality of the products that we are shipping to our customers. This will be accomplished by the development and implementation of quality steps to ensure high quality at every stage of manufacturing including inbound quality testing, production testing and final stage testing prior to shipping. The position will include auditing to insure processes are being followed and reporting of metrics to confirm success.

Key Results Areas

1. Inspection of Incoming Purchased Components
This person will in oversee the receiving clerk to insure that Level 1 inspections (Component verification, and components issued to manufacturing) are complet-ed. This person will perform Level II inspections of critical parts (Measurements with hand tools on critical parts). This person will be responsible for quarantin-ing and non-conforming materials until deviations are issued, or a return to the supplier is coordinated.
2. Auditing of Critical Shipments
This person will be responsible for the testing and checking of critical systems to insure that the shipments are complete, accurate, and will meet the customers’ requirements. This may include assembly and testing of the systems before shipments.
3. Auditing of Processes
This person will be responsible for auditing Assembly processes on a person by person basis to insure that employees understand and are following the established assembly procedures. This person will maintain certification records for each employee for the processes that each individual has received training for. This per-son will also audit general manufacturing procedures to insure that established procedures are being followed. This may include auditing the supervisors responsi-ble for checking of first piece inspections. This person may also be required to audit the quality of critical systems and components before they are shipped.
4. Compilation of QC Data
This person will be responsible for collecting, reporting, and monitoring in-process manufacturing data for critical processes. This person will be responsible for alerting production and management when critical processes are outside of acceptable process limits.

5. Key Supplier Quality
This person will be responsible for evaluating the product and service quality from our key suppliers. This person will be responsible for insure that key suppliers have an acceptable, functioning quality control system in place that will insure that suppliers are identifying defective goods at their facility before they are shipped to Bennett Marine.
6. Product Warranty Tracking
This person will be responsible for overseeing the collection of warranty data. This person will evaluate the data to identify and failure trends and then work with engineering to implement corrective actions. This person will produce executive summaries of key product qualities to be published on a regular basis to the management team.
7. Process improvement projects to improve & insure quality (5S)
This person will support engineering and production efforts to establish a clean, orderly production environment. They will audit areas for adherence to cleanliness standards, identify and report issues with work area systems that could lead to quality issues, and encourage employees to self report and self correct deficient areas.
Key Skills for Success:
ASQ Certification desired.
Proven experience on similar assignments.
Experience in manufacturing setting preferred.
Implementation leadership experience in cross functional setting.
Microsoft Office experience required.
Solid written and verbal skills.
Presentation skills.

Overall Responsibilities
Responsible for the design and implementation of manufacturing systems that support the TDDS mission and Operational Excel-lence vision for the organization. The Manager, Operational Excellence will act as the organizational leader in the implementa-tion of Operational Excellence including Lean Six Sigma training, project selection, 5S initiatives, continuous improvement initi-atives and as a teacher of Lean philosophy. ELEMENTS OF EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: BS or equivalent in a related discipline with 8 – 12 years of experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess practical understanding of Lean Enterprise and experience in implementing Lean tools and systems. Six Sigma black belt is preferred. Experience in the pharma-ceutical or medical device industries will be an asset. Must possess the basic un-derstanding of engineering fundamentals, project management, best practices/benchmarking as well as strong leadership in change management.
Good written and oral English communication skills. Computer literate a must, strength with Statistics as well as MS Project and Excel required. OEE Overall Equipment Efficiency, Lean Six Sigma, TQM and Project Management experi-ence is required. Experience with Business and Technical systems such as Track-Wise, Master Controls, JDE, Minitab, AutoCAD and AutoDesk Vault a plus.
SCOPE
JUDGMENT / DECISION MAKING: Works on complex problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires an
in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly de-
fined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation crite-
ria for obtaining results.

Degree is preferred but not required for candidates with the right experience in quality manage-
ment.
Minimum of 3-5+ years as a hands-on Quality Manager overseeing quality department employ-
ees and ambitious to advance to higher-level mgmt. roles in the future.
Must have experience tier-1 or tier-2 manufacturing for automotive or similar products (i.e. Aero-
space, Medical, FDA - highly-regulated environments) to be considered.
Experience using Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methods - Preference to Six Sigma Certifi-
cation but will consider candidates based on thorough Six Sigma knowledge and accomplish-
ments. (Must be able to talk Six Sigma lingo - (ex. CpK's and how calculated) and talk automo-

Strong problem-solving skills, good people and communication/personality able to work with cus-
tomers and their Engineering Depts. to overcome quality issues, PPAP, new mold development,
etc. (Straight-shooter with tactfulness)
Preference to injection molding experience but will consider other high-volume automotive or
similar products.
Must be able to be change-agent taking a pro-active approach to implementing changes to im-
prove product quality.
Good Computer skills: MS Office Software packages including Excel, able to develop spread-
sheets and other documents or presentations.
Good ethics able to set and lead by examples for rest of department, willing to put in time when-
ever needed.
