MOTTO AND DEDICATION

MOTTO

Dream, believe, and make it happen. (Agnes Monica)

Be happy not because everything is good, but because you can see the good

side of everything.

No matter how good or bad you think life is, wake up each day and be

thankful for life. Someone somewhere else is fighting to survive.

The happiest people don’t have best of everything, they make best of

everything.

Worrying does not take away tomorrow’s trouble; it takes away today’s

peace.

ABSTRACT

Wijaya, Gracia Nathalie. 2015. The Use of Walk the Talk Video to Enrich the

Students’ Vocabulary of the Tenth Graders of Social Program Class in

SMA N 1 Bae Kudus in Academic Year 2015/2016. Skripsi. English

Key Words: Walk the Talk Video, Students’ Vocabulary

Vocabulary is an important element in second language acquisition. For

senior high school students, English is sometimes assumed as difficult subject

because it’s hard for them to pronounce, understand and even remember the

words. Even when the teacher asked them to share their ideas, they just kept silent

and passive. The tenth grade students of social program class have very limited

vocabulary. This condition makes them feel difficult to express their idea in both

oral and written form. Therefore, the researcher wants to apply Walk the Talk

video as an interesting way to learn new words. Walk the Talk video is one of

edutainment TV programs which is going to challenge people to improve their

English. The objectives of this research is to find out whether there is a significant

difference between the students’ vocabulary of the tenth grade of social program

class in SMAN 1 Bae Kudus in academic year 2015/2016 before and after being

taught by using Walk the Talk video.

The design of this research is quasi experimental research with one group

design. The population used is the tenth grade students of social program class in

SMAN 1 Bae Kudus in Academic Year 2015/2016. The researcher got one class

as sample of the research. The technique of sampling in this research is purposive

sampling. One class is chosen to be experimental class; it is X-IIS 4. There are 37

students. The researcher used a test as instrument of the research. The form of the

test is multiple choices which consist of 20 items.

The result of this research shows that in level significance 5% and degree

of freedom (df) N-1= 36, there is a significant difference between the students’

vocabulary of the tenth grade student of social program class in SMAN 1 Bae

Kudus in Academic Year 2015/2016 before and after being taught by using Walk

the Talk Video. It is shown from the calculation result t-observation (t₀) is 8.33,

meanwhile t-table is 2.042. It means the null hypothesis is rejected and the

alternative hypothesis is accepted (t₀ = 8.33 > tt = 2.042). The students’

vocabulary of the tenth grade student of social program class in SMAN 1 Bae

Kudus in Academic Year 2015/2016 after being taught by using Walk the Talk

Video is good (Mean = 82.67 and SD = 7.35). Besides, the students’ vocabulary

of the tenth grade student of social program class in SMAN 1 Bae Kudus in

Academic Year 2015/2016 before being taught by using Walk the Talk Video is

sufficient (Mean = 69.81 and SD = 8.95)

After knowing the result of this research, it can be concluded that the

students’ vocabulary of the tenth graders of social program class in SMAN 1 Bae

Kudus in Academic Year 2015/2016 after being taught by using Walk the Talk

Video is higher than before being taught by using Walk the Talk Video. In

addition, the researcher suggests that the teacher should be able to create an

interesting, innovative, and enjoyable teaching and learning process in the

classroom by using video as the media. Thus, Walk the Talk Video can be one of

effective ways for the enrichment of students’ vocabulary.

ABSTRAK

Wijaya, Gracia Nathalie. 2015. Penggunaan Video Walk the Talk untuk

Memperkaya Kosakata Siswa dari Siswa Kelas Sepuluh Program Sosial di

SMA Negeri 1 Bae Kudus pada Tahun Ajaran 2015/ 2016. Skripsi.

Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu

Pendidikan, Universitas Muria Kudus. Pembimbing: (I) Dr. H. A. Hilal

Madjdi, M.Pd. (II) Agung Dwi N, S.S, M.Pd.

Kata-kata Kunci: Video Walk the Talk, Kosakata Siswa

Video Walk the

menggunakan video Walk the Talk.

table adalah 2.042.

diterima. (t₀ = 8.33 > tt = 2.042). Pencapaian kosakata siswa kelas X dari program

sosial di SMAN 1 Bae Kudus Tahun Ajaran 2015/2016 setelah diajarkan

menggunakan video Walk the Talk hasilnya bagus (Mean = 82.67 and SD = 7.35).

Walk the Talk adalah cukup (Mean = 69.81 and SD = 8.95).

xii

Tahun Ajaran 2015/2016 setelah diajarkan menggunakan video Walk the Talk

tambahan, peneliti menyarankan agar sebaiknya guru mampu menciptakan

memperkaya kosakata siswa.
