American literature• The most important figure in american literature
is Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961). He was member of the group „Lost generation“. After fighting in World War I they lost their illusions. He wrote famous novels: The Sun Also Rises, or For Whom the Bell Tolls, but he is especially femous for his novella The Old Man and the Sea, for which he gained the Nobel Priye for Literature in 1954.• Other names: Mark Twain, Jack London, John
