The digestive, urinary, respiratory and skin make up your excretory system. –Digestive= Waste from your intestines (poo) –Urinary= Waste from your kidneys (urine) –Respiratory= Waste gases (CO2) –Skin= Salts eliminated through sweat.

Functions of the Excretory System
• Excretory means: the removal of waste from the body.

The Urinary System• The Kidneys, which
filter wastes from the blood, are the major organs of the urinary system.
• Urine moves from the kidneys through the ureters, into the bladder, then leaves the body through the urethra.
Urinary Diseases and Disorders
• Kidney failure can lead to a buildup of waste products in the body.
• An artificial kidney can be used to filter the blood in a process called dialysis.
Important Vocabulary
• Ureter: Tubes that lead from each kidney to the bladder.
• Bladder: an elastic muscular organ that holds urine until it leaves the body. Can hold up to 0.5 Liters of urine.
