PBR - It’s back for one huge night! It has been almost two years since the White Park Arena played host to the Hunter Mutual Professional Bull Riders Touring Pro Series and we are just days away from one of the most anticipated PBR events of the year as riders from around the nation get ready to converge on Scone.
With the PBR National Finals in Sydney only months away, along with the Australia’s number 1 ranked rider in the nation to receive an automatic wild card into the $6 million dollar PBR World Finals, you can be assured that each and every rider will be putting out the effort to do well at Scone this Saturday night.
The last time the PBR Tour loosened the dirt at White Park, it played to a full house of enthusiastic fans which is again expected this weekend as the Time Magazine-voted ‘most dangerous sport in the world’ prepares to deliver an edge-of-your-seat sporting event that will keep the fan’s attention from the fi rst bull of the night bucking out of the chute right through to the last.
“There is a mixture of competitors entered in this competition”, stated PBR General Manager, Glen Young.
“You have the top-guns like three-times PBR Australian Champion, Dave Kennedy, last year’s Rookie of the Year, Cliff Richardson, along with former World Finals qualifi er, Jared Farley and the inform Luke Fielder from Queensland.
Then there are the talented rising stars all eager for victory like Sam O’Connor, Clint Glass, Cody Teece, Jeff Moretto and local favourite from Willow Tree, Clancy Butler who made his presence felt last year with his win at the Brisbane Invitational in his debut year.” Mr Young added.
At the end of the day, picking the winner in this event is no different than trying to predict who will win the grand fi nal in the NRL this far out. Each and every rider has what it takes to win; it is just going to come down to sheer grit, athleticism and determination.
Also back this year will be the mega screen with multiple camera angles that will take the fans inside the bucking chutes as riders prepare for their ride accompanied by instant replays of all the action.
Gates open at 5.30pm, with the live action commencing at 7.30pm sharp.
Tickets on sale at www.upperhuntertourism.com.au or through the Scone Visitor Information & Horse Centre for those who want to avoid the queues, or buy them at the gate.
Ticket Prices: VIP Package - $70, Adults - $30, Child - $15 and Family - $75.

Scone Grammar presents ‘The Wiz’By Zack Phillips
On Thursday March 6, Friday March 7 and Saturday March 8, the Scone Grammar School will showcase the musical, ‘The Wiz’. The performance will take place at Scone High School’s Multi Purpose Unit.‘The Wiz’ is loosely based on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz; a story about a young orphaned girl who fi nds herself in the land of Oz. ‘The Wiz’ is set to be a musical version of the Wizard of Oz. The cast of approximately 50 students, ranging from year three up to year twelve, having been working non-stop on the musical production since October last year.
The main character in the musical is played by 12 year old Tully O’Regan. Tully is in year seven, and has adapted to the role with enthusiasm and enjoyment. The musical itself is produced by Scone Grammar’s music teacher, Tori Saunders, along with other teachers Jason Buckley as music director, and Maria English as director.
“It is quite exciting to offer the Upper Hunter community a musical experience as the school hasn’t performed one in the past four years!” Mrs Saunders states.
Tickets for the musical cost $15 for adults; $10 for students and seniors, which are available at Scone Grammar’s front offi ce. If you’re interested in attending this event, and want more information, visit the Scone Grammar School, or call 6545 3131.

‘Fakes and Forgeries’ADFAS Scone Inc takes great pleasure in presenting Ms Hilary Kay’s lecture - ‘Fakes and Forgeries’ on Tuesday 11 March at Scone Arts & Crafts Hall in Scone to commence at 6.30pm.Hilary is one of the most familiar faces on BBC TV’s long-running Antiques Roadshow having joined the program in 1978. Recently she presented a landmark documentary television series for the BBC, Brilliantly British, exploring the lives of Thomas Chippendale, Josiah Wedgwood and William Morris. Hilary has also featured in numerous television and radio programs and in 2010 (much to her surprise) she won BBC TV’s Celebrity Mastermind. Alongside the collectables with which she is most frequently associated, Hilary’s expertise also includes rock’n’roll memorabilia. A self-confessed ‘rock chick’, Hilary conceived and held the world’s fi rst ever auction of rock’n’roll memorabilia in 1981, and she wrote the fi rst book to appear on the subject. Hilary has also written or contributed to various books on the subject of antiques and collectables. Hilary is now an independent consultant, broadcaster, lecturer and writer on the subjects of antiques and collectables. She developed and heads Art and Antiques Events, a company which provides arts and antiques-centred entertainments to the corporate market, to the world’s cruise lines and to private clients.
This lecture ‘Fakes and Forgeries’ explores the devious world of the master forger. Objects that fooled the experts, from a Botticelli to a bottle of gin!
The cost of the lecture is $25 for visitors and $15 for students with a delicious supper to follow. All enquiries should be directed to Bill Howey on 6545 1859. Image: Hilary Kay.

leisure & lifestyleCelebrate International Women’s Day locallyBy Zack Phillips
International Women’s Day is an event celebrated all around the world; celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women in the past, present and future. On the day, women are recognised for their achievements, regardless of divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. On this occasion, we look back on past struggles and accomplishments, and most importantly, for looking ahead into untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women.
On Thursday March 6, the Muswellbrook Library is hosting the International Women’s Day movie afternoon. This will take place at 5pm, and will feature the movie, Diana, a fi lm about Princess Diana and her last two years of life.
Every year, the Muswellbrook Library invites the women of the Upper Hunter to come along and celebrate this day. This year, the theme is ‘Inspiring Change’, so the Library will be inspiring
women by having a movie night. This is a free event, but the library will be taking gold coin donations to support the Australian Breast Cancer Foundation. Refreshments will be available on the afternoon.
To fi nd out more on this event, visit www.uhrl.nsw.gov.au/index.php/whats-on-at-muswellbrook-library/339-come-celebrate-international-womens-day-muswellbrook-library.

The Dennis Boys release new albumThe Dennis Boys Band is one of the best things happening in contemporary Australian country music. A Muswellbrook-based act that delivers a prized breath of fresh, authentic, country air. Since the release of their debut album in 2010 No Story To Tell, the once-family band comprising of three brothers and a sister have stripped back the bells slightly revealing further the exceptional songwriting talents of singer/guitarist, Lyle and his brother Erle on bass. They have certainly come along way since winning the Tamworth Country Music Festival ‘Battle of the Bands’ in 2006. Listening to a taste of the new album due out next month at the Gum Ball Music Festival, the band appear to have really delved deeper, canvassing a broader range of sounds; combining all manner of infl uences from punk, reggae and rock into their own blended thumpin’ country sound.
The beauty of the Dennis Boys sound is their originality and their irreverence. The band takes classic sounds and puts them in a modern context. Solid earthy songs, but with big variety in the rhythm and sophisticated chord changes. Basically, you could dislike country music and still dig The Dennis Boys Band. Conversely, it makes the old school of country music lovers happy to hear brand new stuff of the old quality.
“Country music, with occasional modern edge, but not in that sometimes self-conscious alternate country way that allows for a multitude of musical sins” – Ross Clelland, The Drum Media.
The Dennis Boys will be featured at the Gum Ball Music Festival on 11 and 12 April at Belford in the Hunter Valley launching their new album – this is modern country rock as good as it gets!
