The universities can be divided into three groups:

•The oldest universities;

•The redbrick universities;

•The new universities;

The oldest universities:The University of Oxford

The University of Cambridge

• There are 38 colleges of the University of Oxford.

• There are about 21000 students; over 1000 teachers.

has 102 libraries

Academic dress is still seen at Oxford

The university has 114 libraries. The total number of books is about 12 million.

The University operates 8 arts, cultural and scientific museums

• The University of Manchester;

• The University of Sheffield;

• The University of Leeds;
