What Political Circumstances led to War in Europe?
European Countries were in a lot of competition with one another.
There were 4 MAIN causes for war in Europe:1) Militarism2) Alliances3) Imperialism4) Nationalism
What is Militarism?Militarism is the strong build up of a military over the course of years
Because this strong military exists country feels ability to threaten other countries
Desire to use military tends to be strong
What is meant by alliances?
Think, “You got my back I have yours”
Countries solidified their defenses with other countries support

What is meant by Imperialism?Imperialism is the domination of a stronger nation over a weaker one
Competition over territory (especially in Africa) existed
You never know if you’re bullying a country with an alliance
What is meant by Nationalism?Think patriotism on steroids (remember jingoism?)
People promote their homeland’s culture and ideas
Leads to feelings of superiority and thus division

Answer the following questions when you are complete:
1) What is the basic arguments of Senator Works and Secretary Lansing?
