Mashpi Reserve is a small corner of the planet that holds the remnants of the fascinating Ecuadorian Andean Choco region – an expanse that has gained international recognition as a crucial hotspot of biodiversity. Located in the Metropolitan District of Quito, it is a private, 2,965- acre (1,200-hectare) reserve that runs from Panama through Colombia and Ecuador, ending right at Peru’s border. It is a pristine ecosystem full of secrets yet to be discovered.
Amid abundant waterfalls and exuberant tropical vegetation, animal life gives us an extraordinary range of vivid colors: the birds show bright pigments of steel blue, turquoise, ruby red, or emerald green, contrasting with the dazzling tones of thousands of butterflies and the bright and almost translucent toads of the jungle. Over a quarter of the bird species of Ecuador, in a country famous for its great avian diversity, can be found on Mashpi Reserve. The exuberant plant life is even richer. You can find hundreds of varieties of orchids, not to mention bromeliads and ferns. On the way back from any of our hiking activities you will discover monkeys, peccaries, and pumas. Just 40 minutes in each direction with interim moments of relaxed observation designed to enhance our journey of discovery, a ride aboard the Dragonfly allows us to fully realize our place in the universe, the value of each and every species, and the importance of caring for this unique environment and our entire planet.

Samay Wellness Centre & Spa The Samay Wellness Centre opened its doors in August 2017 as a privileged outdoor space, winner in the category of Best Spa Resort in Ecuador 2018 of the World Spa Awards. Its sleek and modern architecture incorporates an outdoor hot tub and a covered area for yoga that connect the guest with the forest in a place of peace and tranquillity. Located next to the lodge, it is accessible through a short path that meanders through the lush foliage, providing great opportunities to observe your favorite bird.
