Back in 1989 we developed a unique processof manufacturing continuous mineralinsulated copper cables. This processensures 100% continuity and quality but moreimportantly makes our cable the only cablewhich can safely carry a load for 3 hours at950˚C and for short periods at temperaturesin excess of 1000˚C.
Our cables are installed in some of the worldslargest and most important buildings andrecognised throughout the electrical industryas the best choice for fire survival.
The quality and reliability of our mineralinsulated cables meet and exceed British,European and Australian standards andmaintain certifications from BRE-LPCB,Warrington Fire Research Centre and LondonUnderground with our termination glandsapproved by SIRA-ATEX EExd.
Our cable consists of only twoelements: Copper + MagnesiumOxide. Neither release toxins, neither will burn.
We are the only UK manufacturer of continuous Mineral Insulated Cables, exporting to over 20 countriesglobally including the Middle East, India, Australia and China.

Why our cable is the only TRUE FIRE SURVIVAL CABLE
Mineral Insulated Copper Cable (MICC)
Our cable is totally Inorganic and Silicone free. Itconsists of multiple copper conductors (cores), highlycompressed magnesium oxide (insulation) and an outercopper sheath, thats just 2 elements.
This unique composition has an outer melting point of1083˚C (the melting point of copper) and ultimately2800˚C for the insulation (magnesium oxide). Note thatthe internal load carrying cores are protected inside themagnesium oxide insulation.
This allows our cable to safely carry a load intemperatures in excess of 1000˚C making it a TRUE firesurvival cable.
Our MICC cable is water and oil resistant, can carrygreater current ratings, require no conduit formechanical or vermin protection, UV and radiationresistant and can last in excess of 50 years.
Soft Skin Flame Retardant Polymer Cables
In order to give soft skinned polymer cables flameretardant properties, halogens are added to the outersheath such as; chlorine, bromine and fluorine.
When exposed to a fire, these halogenated polymerswill release halides which are extremely toxic.
The outer and inner sheaths of soft skin polymer cablesburn and contribute to a fire releasing toxic smokewhich can itself ignite, often explosively.
All the soft skin polymer cables we have tested failafter only 10 minutes which in a densely populatedpublic building may not be enough time for everyone toescape.
Our cable consists of only two elements: Copper + Magnesium Oxide. Neither release toxins, neither will burn. In the UK, fire resistant cables must meet thefollowing standards:
• British fire performance standards BS EN 50200 PH120 Enhanced demands 2 hours fire resistance at 850˚C.
• BS 6387 category C, W & Z demands that cables perform safely for 3 hours at 950˚C. All 3 tests performed using the same cable sample.
Our cables exceed these requirements.

what isenough time?
10 minutes?
or 3 hours?
All soft skin competitor ‘fire resistant’ cables we’ve tested fail afterjust 10 minutes when exposed to temperatures of 850˚C. (This isthe testing temperature of BS EN 50200 pH120 Enhanced) whichrequires 2 hours fire resistance. Soft skin cables also release toxicgases and in many cases add fuel to the fire - they burn!

Our MICC cable easily withstands temperatures exceeding850˚C for hours right up to the melting point of copper (1083˚C)and its composition means there is NOTHING to burn!

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY1] Sound the alarmBut if the wire is burnt and notconnected how can you?
2] Dial 999, Inform reception/securityImpossible if the communication wiresare burnt.
3] Attack the fire with extinguishersBut how can you if the lights are notworking and you can’t find them?
4] Follow exit signsYou can’t because plastic sheathingaround the emergency systems cablingis emitting toxic smoke and you cannotsee or breathe.
5] Contain the fire by closing windows & doorsA bit difficult if you have NO lights andyou cant see because of smoke.
6] Use the exit stairwells?Fine, but you can’t find them becauseemergency lights have failed and smokeextraction fans have stopped due towires burnt.

Manufacturing Process
20,000m per dayMagnesium Oxide (MgO) powder ismixed with additives to create a putty-like compound. This compound is thenextruded through our uniqueextrusion system to produceinsulating rods.
Any broken rods are recycled backthrough the system ensuring zero waste.
Why Magnesium Oxide?
MgO is a refractory material, a solidthat is physically and chemicallystable at high temperatures. Its twomain attributes are high thermalconductivity and low electricalconductivity making it an idealinsulator for our cables.
At this stage the copperconductors, insulation rodsand outer copper sheath arecombined together in oneefficient process.
24 hour production
These rods are relatively softand flexible. We fire these rodsin our purpose built kilns attemperatures in excess of1100˚C to remove all moistureand additives leaving a pureinorganic rod.

continuousmanufacture
By manually adding the insulation, the most vital part of our cables,we can monitor consistency andrectify any defects.
The pre-formed cable is thenseam fused using a Tig processbefore entering our rolling mills.During this process the cable isgradually reduced in diameter tothe desired specification whilepassing through our highfrequency induction annealer.
