Freshman assembly members will be elected at the beginning of the 2013 school year
THE TRIANGLE
The 2014 student body officers have been elected. Led by student body president Will Pearcy, next year’s class has their goals set
The 2014 student body officers from left to right include vice president junior Emmaline Terry, secretary junior Parker Hirsch, sergeant at arms junior Nick Littrell, treasuer junior Will Bridgeman and president junior Will Pearcy. “I ran to be a student body officer because I have friends who have done it in the past that seemed to have a fun time. Also I wanted to put my leadership skills to use,” Hirsch said.
At the beginning of each school day, 2013 student body president Zac Ruehman reads the daily
announcements. Next year, a different voice will start out the average school day. Junior Will Pearcy, 2014 student body president, and his cabinet of officers will lead the student body in August. Whether it is a new adventure in their life or it is a role they are somewhat familiar with, the student body officers are ready for a new year with fresh beginnings.
“I have a lot of family members that went to North. School spirit is a big thing that I enjoy; I go to a lot of basketball games and a lot of other sporting events. My brother is on track and I’m on band,” Pearcy said. “I really just love the school and think it is a great opportunity to do something more than what I could if I was just a student.”
Junior Emmaline Terry, vice president, is also ready for something new next year.
“Ever since I was a freshman, I was interested in the (student body officer) roles played in the school. I ran because I wanted to be apart of it,” Terry said.
While new leadership skills will be put to use, all the officers have new goals for the upcoming school year.
Sergeant at arms junior Nick Littrell wanted to try something different.
“(I joined student body office) to get
into student assembly, student council, and to have a high position in the school,” Littrell said.
“I think the main goal the other officers and I want to accomplish is increasing school spirit through not only sports competitions but other school activities. The student body officers are basically the voice for the whole student body,” secretary junior Parker Hirsch said.
“I just want to do the best and fulfill my position,” Treasurer junior Will Bridgeman said. “Maybe start some new activities that could become a legacy here at North.”
School spirit leads the student body officers’ goals for next year.
“Next year I want to see an increase in student assembly participation with events and activities. Also, better the relationships between faculty and students and encourage better communication; increase in attendance to student athletic and art events outside of school. Just create a bigger sense of school pride,” Terry said.
Being a role model for the school, but also the community is something on Pearcy’s list of goals.
“I think (student body officers) gives freshman and sophomores a role model, which is important. It gives them something to strive to be. It’s important for all of us to be good role models and represent for the community. We’re kind of
put up on a pedestal for everyone to look at,” Pearcy said.
Bridgeman believes student government is beneficial to the student body.
“Being able to be a voice for some of the students in this school is, I think, why we have a student body president and why we’re here.”
The student body and student assembly would not run as smoothly without the help from the sponsors, according to Pearcy.
“Mrs. Hamlin and Mr. Green are our sponsors and they’re just great. They’re an incredible amount of help. They’re kind of there informally,” Pearcy said. “A lot of things are lead by the students, but whenever we need to check and make sure that everything is okay with the administration, they are more than willing to help us out, so it’s great to have them around.”
A student body officer’s jobs come with different responsibilities.
“The president is the main link between the administration and the students, and he runs the student assembly. The vice president is there whenever the president can’t make it,” Hirsch said.
What is Pearcy’s agenda for next year?“(I’ve) got to admit, school spirit’s kind
of low. I don’t think as many people enjoy coming to school any more, but I want to see more people involved.”
VS All elected assembly members from the four grades meet and discuss matters such as school conventions, formal, fundraisers, and other student activities. “The president is the main link between the administration and the students, and he runs
the student assembly,” Hirsch said.
The president, vice president, treasurer, sergeant at arms, and secretary from each grade form the student council. They weigh in on matters concerning school reform and community projects. “I lead student council meetings,” Pearcy said, “and create an agenda.”

@cnhsstudent Mrs. Hurrle was in the military. True or False?
@Aaron KarrerShe was a Navy Seal and can kill people five different ways with her thumb.
@cnhsmediaDean Ruth Hurrle was NOT in the military, but she doesn’t mind people spreading that rumor around.
@cnhsstudent Did you hear that Mr. Lindsey is retiring?!?
@JacobSimoAww man, is he really?
@cnhsmediaEnglish teacher Dennis Lindsey will be retiring after next year. Do not fret!
Almost as traditional as graduation, end-of-the-year rumors race through the halls. From senior projects to teacher re-tirements, speculations abound. What’s true? What’s not true? For this last issue, The Triangle gets to the bottom of six of the most prevalent.
@cnhsstudent No more off-campus lunch. WHAT?
@WilliamMahlWell, sucks to be you guys; I’m a senior.
@MendanBobbAre you serious?
@cnhsmediaDefinitely not true. Keep enjoying your Tropical Smoothie!
@cnhsstudent Hey guys, I heard there are no more seniorprojects. Your thoughts???
@ClayJohnson...really?
@cnhsmedia FALSE. Senior projects are, in fact, getting bigger with the Senior Project Showcase where the top 25 senior projects are chosen by the public and presented. The top three senior boards are given a cash prize. This years winners were Agne Jonaityte ($350), Caleb Jones ($250), and Jessica Mao ($150).
@cnhsmediaTo see all 25 Showcase winners go to #cnhsmedia
@cnhsstudentDoes anyone know if construction is almost done?
@cnhsmediaThe building has been signed back over to us, however, a new project has begun. The foot-ball stadium bleachers will be reconstructed
@cnhsmediaBusiness teacher Michael Hackman will be retiring after 34 years in BCSC and 36 years in Business Education.
@MikeHackmanI enjoy my students, but it’s also time to move on to the next chapter of my life.
@SusanScottWe want to honor Mike in his parting. We will be collecting a free will offering in the Main Office that will be used for a present to be presented the last day of school.
@cnhsstudentDoes Taco Bell really have a restraining order against the school deans?
@TacoBellmanagerNo, they’re welcome here anytime.
@DerekSextonYeah, that’s true.
Over the summer, it might seem like there would be more time to browse for new music and expand your playlist, but it can be easy to get caught in a musical rut. While listening to the
same songs on repeat can set the mood for summer, it gets tedious towards July.
So, some people get involved with the local music scene here or go to concerts and music festivals over the summer to discover new artists/groups. But, if you are going to be on the road all summer or can’t afford to go to any of these events, it can be more challenging to keep up with new music.
For those who will be home most of the summer and are looking for new groups to listen to, music discovery services, such as www.allmusic.com, are good sites to check out. If looking for artists similar to a favorite group, go to “recommendations” and type in the name of the band; similar artists in the same genre will pop up.
“There’s a website called www.MP3skull.com, that and I get on iTunes,” Sophomore Ezera Followell said when asked where he went to look for new music.
Many turn to the music discovery service, Pandora for new music.When tired of music on regular broadcasted radio or her iPod. “I go on Pandora and listen to new stations,” junior Amanda
Wheeler said.“Once I get bored of music on my iPhone I generally use the
Pandora app and listen to different stations for newer music,” Sophomore Jen Bale said.
She also uses social networking sites to keep her playlist updated.“I usually find music from looking on iTunes or the bands I’m
following on Twitter will announce new songs or music,” Sophomore Jen Bale said.
In addition, there are local music events this summer. For example, Battle of the Bands is this coming up.
“(It will take place) June 8th,” Senior Robert Babcock said. Babcock is a member of Project Dubru, a band who has performed at Battle of the Bands before and won in 2012. Babcock’s position in the band is drums and vocals.
The winning group of Battle of the Bands gets to open for the main band in The Biggest Block Party Ever, organized by the Columbus Area Arts Council held July 27 this year in The Commons. Headlining this year is Hunter Smith Band.
It will take place at the Mill Race Amphitheater or if it rains, FFY. Outside of Columbus a variety of musical events occur this summer.
Some students have opted to attend concerts and music festivals. Senior Luis Cambron plans to attend Warped Tour on June 3rd in Noblesville.
“(I am looking forward to the group) Bring Me The Horizon, because I have heard reviews by renowned music critics,” said Cambrone.
Senior Harley Wiltsey plans to attend the music festival Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tenn.
“I’ve been to Bonnaroo once before. Last year was the first time I went. This year will be my second,” Wiltsey said.
Last year, a couple of her favorites were Skrillex and Foster the People.
“This year I’m very excited for Mumford and Sons, Of Monsters and Men, and the Lumineers. I really like their music, and I’ve like Mumford and Sons for a few years now, so I’m excited to finally see them,” Wiltsey said.
Before going last year, Wiltsey made sure to listen to a lot of the bands that would be playing there.
“Bonnaroo is an amazing experience,” Wiltsey said, “Four days of camping and concerts with some of your best friends in the middle of a field in Tennessee, nothing compares to it.”
Other students, such as Bale, are planning to attend summer concerts. She plans to attend a Passion Pit concert in June with three other friends.
“I’m probably most excited for just seeing this type of band play live, considering they’re not really popular,” Bale said, “But also the atmosphere and just being with my friends at a concert having a good time.”

Check out the top quotes that were in the halls the week before finals
by Andy Carr and Adam LeClerc
T heaters are in for some fantastic characters this year, and yes, you guessed it, I’m going to shove my
knowledge and opinions of them in your face because I write the column, and you are reading it!
Ron Burgundy (“Anchorman: The Legend Continues,” Dec. 20): Dreams have come true. “Anchorman” is getting a sequel. With that, the fantastically-dressed and suave Ron Burgundy makes his return to the big screen. If you have not seen the first Anchorman, go home and watch it now; it’s the only way for you to know who Ron Burgundy is in his entirety. The man is beyond words, really, like a god walking among mere mortals with his colorful suits, amazing hair, and 70S mustache. We only
know so much of what Ron’s new adventure will contain, but one thing we know for certain is that he will be attacked by a shark … and fight back. Random, yes, but what would you expect from the sequel to “Anchorman”?
Smaug (“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” Dec. 13): By far the largest character on the list, because he is in fact not human but a dragon about the size of a city block. In “The Hobbit,” Smaug single-handedly takes out two entire nations, takes all their wealth, puts it all in a giant pile, and now chills on it all day every day. Needless to say, this guy is going to heave some havoc on screen. For this next movie in “The Hobbit” trilogy; Smaug will be acted through motion capture by Benedict Cumberbatch who also plays the villain in the new film “Star Trek: Into Darkness.”
Jay Gatsby (“The Great Gatsby,” May 10):
While this movie has been out May 10th, that does not mean you can’t be excited about him! Jay Gatsby: war veteran, millionaire, and a fellow who throws parties that would make emperors of Rome jealous. He is more or less the most interesting man in the world. Or at least he appears to be. Is there something Gatsby is hiding from his friends and neighbors? I won’t spoil it for you; watch the movie, or better yet, read the book.
Clark Kent (“Man of Steel,” June 14): No use beating around the bush, Clark Kent is Superman. With that out of the way, I can talk about him. We all know about Superman. He’s faster than a speeding bullet, and can shoot lasers from his eyes. This legendary character will now be wrapped up in a sleek and modern movie full of explosions and flashy special effects. What’s not to love?
