Motorhome Travel When you decide on a motorhome vacation, you are not just

taking the keys to a normal vehicle; you are taking the choice

to a holiday of freedom and a world of opportunities.

Opportunities that are not possible on any other kind of

holiday and opportunities, that for some come only once in a

life time.

Where ever in the world you may be, the options are limitless and the barriers removed. If it’s the USA you are

in, what other holidays could offer visits to the Hoover Dam, Mount Rushmore, the Rockies, the Californian

deserts, the wide-open spaces of Texas, the rolling hills of Pennsylvania or the beaches of Florida all in one

holiday.

Australia, the entire Australian coast road, Ayers Rock, Sydney opera house all become sights that can be

enjoyed whilst sitting in the comfort of your own chair. Europeans are lucky enough to have majestic castles,

snowy mountain tops, ocean roads, Black Forest Alpine Roads, historical buildings, Amphitheatres to name just

a few sights. Your motorhome gives you the freedom to choose where you want to go, and when.

Not only will you love the wide open travelling, you will find campsites are a place to meet other like-minded

free souled travellers who are always on hand with a glass of wine, helpful advice and interesting tales to share

from their own adventures. Campsites offer a special camaraderie that you just can’t get anywhere else. So

don’t be trapped by your imagination. Take your home away with you and see what the world has waiting for

you to discover

Motorhome Stops/Aires Motorhomes are gaining more and more popularity these days

and there are now overnight stopping places located all around

Europe. In some countries these stop-overs can be located easily

because of the numbers that are provided, but other countries

are yet to catch on in providing this service to visitors. In France

these areas are called Aires de Service, in Germany, Austria and

Switzerland they are Reisemobil Stellplätze, in Italy Area di Sosta,

in Britain Motorhome Camperstops, in Norway Bobils and in

Spain and Portugal they are known as Servico para

Autocaravanas, but throughout Europe everyone will understand

the word Camperstop

Driving Laws

Driving in a foreign country can sometimes be daunting, not only as it can be on the opposite

side of the road, different way around the roundabouts and foreign language signs, but if

World Cuisine, Drinks & Recipes

Caribbean Cuisine

Caribbean cuisine is filled with the sunshine and

colours that we associate with the beautiful

islands that lie in the sparkling blue waters of the

Caribbean. Dishes are vibrant and packed full of

flavour using fresh produce and the wonderful

selection of spices that are so readily available.

German Meats

Schnitzels are normally associated with Austrian

cuisine, but are found throughout Germany, often

smothered with a delicious sauce such as

Jägersauce, made with smoked ham mushrooms

and cream or Ziguener Sauce, a spicy paprika laden

sauce. They are served with potato salad,

pommes, rice or boiled potatoes and always

accompanied by a salad.

In the autumn a great speciality is Schlachtplatte, a

dish of liver sausage, blood sausage and pork

served with boiled potatoes and sauerkraut.

Different regions will have variations on this and

make the most of wild boar, hare and venison.

Baked Ham Hocks (Schweinhaxe) are greatly loved

all around Germany and are wonderful when you

are really hungry, whether they are browned over

an open fire or oven baked with dark beer…..

Jamaican cooking draws its genius from a

brilliant interpretation of East Indian, Chinese, African,

Spanish and British influences—all working

harmoniously in a style that is uniquely Jamaican.

Curried goat, a popular dish often served with white

rice, rice and peas or other food, is a legacy of East

Indian indenture ship. The new arrivals added curry and

other spices, expanding the island’s kitchen of exotic

flavours

Italian Cusine

Breakfast, or Colazione, is a simple, continental

style meal, consisting of Caffé latte with bread

rolls, buter and jam. Children will often just have

Biscotti and Hot Chocolate or hot milk. Lunch,

(Pranzo) is the main meal of the day and taken

between 12 noon and 2pm. Even with today’s

more hectic lifestyle, the Italians still tend to

regard lunch as important, especially at week-ends

when all the family sit down together.

A full Italian lunch is actually a very social occasion

and will consist of antipasto-sliced meats, cheeses,

olives and such delicacies, then follows “Primo“,

the first course, either a soup, Rissotto or a Pasta

dish, a main course or “Secondo” which will be

either meat or fish and finished off with a dessert

“Dolce” which is often a selection of fruits. Evening

meals, (Cena) are often taken quite late on in the

evening. The meal will quite often consist of left-

overs from lunch, although it will be a slightly

lighter affair.

Eating out in the evening is now enjoyed by many

families and they will go out fairly late to have a

meal or pizza and a stroll through the town.

Drinks of Scotland

No visit to Scotland would be complete without

sampling a ‘wee dram’ of uisge beatha or ‘the

water of life’ …the name given by the ancient Celts

to the fiery amber nectar we now call Scotch

whisky The exact origins of when whisky was first

produced in Scotland are lost in the midst of time.

It is known however that the ancient Celts were

keen producers, and even more enthusiastic

consumers, of the ‘the water of life’.

For centuries it has been claimed that whisky has

mystical medicinal powers sufficient to cure colic,

smallpox and many other common diseases and

ailments. Others simply believed it to be an

effective in-built central heating system to help

survive those long cold Scottish winter nights

Recession! Bank Charges! Price Increases! Every time the news comes on T.V. only bad news! How the stresses

and strains of modern life can get you down. After two years of worries, bad health and stress we decide

enough is enough, we would take a break and just drop out of this rat race. Yes it would be very hard to leave

our loved ones behind, but if we continued to say “one day we will do this, that or the other” then maybe that

day would never come. So taking the bull by the horns, we rented out our home for a year, hired a container

for most of our belongings and squashed the rest into our motorhome! (Our home for the next 12 months!)

Scary and yet also exciting. Where were we going to go? Maybe we should make some plans? Oh, no time

now! we will do it on route, won’t we?...........

Halloween

Halloween or Hallowe’en also known as All Hallows’

Eve, is a yearly holiday observed around the

world on October 31, the eve before the Western

Christian feast of All Hallows. The

word Halloween was first used in the 16th century

and represents a Scottish variant of the fuller All-

Hallows’-Even (“evening”), that is, the night

before All Hallows’ Day.

Thanksgiving

The first Thanksgiving Day is recognised as having been

held in 1621, with a meal of Thanksgiving being shared

by the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag

Indians. For more than two hundred years

Thanksgiving was celebrated separately in individual

states until, in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln

proclaimed that a National Thanksgiving Day was to be

held every November.

Diwali

Diwali popularly known as the “festival of lights,” is a five day festival

which starts on Dhanteras, celebrated on thirteenth lunar day of Krishna

paksha (dark fortnight) of the Hindu calendar month Ashwinand ends

on Bhaubeej, celebrated on second lunar day of Shukla paksha (bright

fortnight) of the Hindu calendar month Kartik. In the Gregorian calendar,

Diwali falls between mid-October and mid-November.

Christmas

Christmas or Christmas Day is a holiday generally observed

on December 25 (with alternative days of January 6, 7 and 19)

to commemorate the birth of Jesus, the central figure

of Christianity. The exact birthday of Jesus is not known, and

historians place his year of birth sometime between 7 BC and

2 BC. Narratives of his birth are included in two of

the Canonical gospels in the New Testament of the Bible.
