It isn't a religious icon.
Humans, animals and supernatual beings are on it and tell the story of the family.
In summer, the dancers sing and dance around it for days to ask protection for the
future.
THE MEDICINE MAN
The medicine man
• The medicine men have strong visions, guided by the Great Spirit, and ask for help in difficult situations.
• They are also doctors.
THE EAGLE
The Eagle
• The eagle is the “Master of the sky”.
• It is the Creator's messenger.
• It represents: honesty, majesty, strength, courage, wisdom, power and freedom.
• Brave warriors received eagle feathers for their acts.
POWWOWS
Powwows
• They are meetings of different Native American tribes.
• Dances, drumming contests and story-telling take place.
• They sell craft and food.
• The largest Powwow in North America is in Albuquerque.
