'DESPERATE PIGS ADMIT TO

ARSON'The story is developing further and now there is a different bias to this headline.

Why? What makes it different?Today you will write the main paragraph in the newspaper, using quotes to back up any facts given.

The included quotes will be from the pig’s neighbours. Which story characters live in the neighbourhood is down to you – be creative!

The neighbours will be interviewed by the journalist – you. They have heard the pigs scheming for weeks now about killing the wolf. Since the pigs lost their jobs, they have had little money and their neighbours have lent them money and given them food.

Make a list of possible neighbours and the things they might say when they are interviewed. Think about things

they could have: seen, smelled, heard, witnessed etc. Look at the next slide for an example of how to include the

neighbour’s quote in the article.

Write 3/4/5 quotes from different neighbours, offering varied information. DO NOT repeat yourself. Be creative and use your

imagination.Remember to use the grammatical features expected in year 6 and a

few of the spellings.

According to the pigs, they have been harassed for months. They insist that the Wolf had

threatened them with violence on numerous occasions; he had warned them that if they

told the authorities, he would destroy their houses. My clients - the pigs - were obviously

terrified of informing the police and lived in constant fear that the defendant would carry

out his despicable threats. The pigs continued to suffer in silence. As a direct result of

this, a complaint was lodged by the trio, stating they could not sleep and were put on

medication to relieve their anxiety. The medication, however, proved to have a negative

effect on the pigs' health. The victims became so petrified of the Wolf, that they refused

to leave their homes. Consequently, each of my clients was, in turn, fired from their

employment, which later resulted in financial difficulties. What possible motive could my

clients have for destroying the only place they considered a sanctuary from the Wolf's

bullying?

Write your own defence case speech for the pigs with a strong bias. Remember, they are ‘innocent creatures’, mistreated by the ‘evil, wicked’ wolf. Think carefully about the use of vocabulary to show your bias position. Write the speech as a separate piece of writing; parts of it will be used in the article.

Must:- show clear bias- use passive voice - use relative and subordinate clauses

Article structure:

quotations. Who has been arrested?

• final paragraph: What will happen next? Court

dates/location/judge's identity

• possible consequences/repercussions if pigs found guilty. Will the

laws change as a result of this case e.g- reasonable force?
