The United States was founded in part by rum merchants wine makers whiskey distillersbeer brewers ale brewers tavern owners snake oil hucksters…and people of great character!!!

Note the differences in this picture…after the temperance movement called.

A “drunkard’s progress”

was a common theme…

drunkenness would lead

to moral vice…

and ultimately self destruction.

The opposite of temperance is …

Ladies…can’tthink ofa goodreason to drink…

…a verysoberingthought… eh….

American virtue and vice were

at issue in cultural war …

…eventually the 18th Amendment

would attempt to settle the issue with prohibition.
