Kindergarten

We are in our last quarter of the 2016-2017 school year and we have seen so much growth in our youngest Tedder Bears. Parents please remember children need to be at school on time and keep your child's attendance up. Ms. Georges has sent home notification letters and we do not want to lose any student's this late in the year due to excessive absences or tardies. We are having a wonderful experience with our Water Safety program through Swim Central April 17- 28. Please remember your child's swim suit and towel so they may participate in this wonderful program. HS4 were given information for the FREE VPK program over the summer. Please see Ms. Salzberg with any questions.

Head Start

First Grade

Second GradeIn reading we will be focusing on improving our comprehension and fluency. In math we will be learning about data and graphing and keep working on our math fluency. Your child can practice their math fluency on reflex.com on a computer and i-pad. In science we will be learning about life cycles. Please make sure they are going on iready for both reading and math as much as possible. Please sign your child’s nightly reading log and make sure they are completing their homework every night. If you need to schedule a conference with your child’s teacher, please let them know! We will be taking our primary reading test May 8-9. Please make sure your child is preparing for the test by reading and focusing on comprehension. We will be working on test taking strategies in class to prepare for the test. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

In first grade we are preparing for our big End of the Year test. Please help your child by reading every night for homework. Record the book that your child reads into a Reading Log. In order for your child to be successful on the End of the Year test your child needs to understand what they are reading, so ask your child questions about the books that they read. You can even stop in the middle of the book and ask questions about what your child has just read. This will keep your child focused on each word and it's meaning. We want our Tedder Bears to shine on their test! Continue to do homework every night and read, read, read!!!

Kindergarten has been busy working on diving deeper into stories. We have been working on the character, setting, and plot of stories and comparing two different stories. We also have been working on blending and segmenting words to help read words better. Please practice the following sight words at home: make, they, him, into, time, has, look, two, more, write, or, word.In math, we are working on three dimensional shapes. Sphere, cylinder, cube, cone, and rectangular prism. Play a shape game at home and have your child tell you what shape rocks, soda cans, food cans, balls, and other items are. This will help reinforce your child’s learning at school.Just a reminder to keep doing I-Ready at home and to read 20 minutes each night!THANK YOU for all you do!

Third Grade

Hello from the third grade team at Tedder. We are well into the 4th quarter and things in third grade are busy.We are happy to report that we have just completed the reading portion of the FSA and are anxiously awaiting our scores. In the meantime, 3rd grade is working on reading portfolios. These portfolios are just as important to your child as the FSA results so remind your children to do their very best every day!Students are now getting ready to ROCK THE MATH PORTION OF THE FSA and those dates are April 19-20, 2017.Third grade is looking forward to a rewarding 4th quarter filled with plant studies, experiments and hands on activities.Your child has a chance to attend a Tedder Celebration! Please talk to your child about their Dream It Achieve It cards and how they can join in on the celebration fun! Dream It Achieve It cards encourage students to attend school daily, turn in homework, follow their guidelines for success, and get good grades. These cards will come home to you at least twice a month. Please talk to you child about their scores –discuss and celebrate their strengths and plan how to improve on the areas of weakness. Please keep reading at home every night, work on your multiplication facts, and sign into iReady.Feel free to contact your son or daughter’s teacher with questions or concerns.

Fourth Grade

During the weeks leading up to the test, begin to talk with your child about doing his or her best. You know your child better than anyone. Emphasize the importance of the test, but remember to build confidence, not anxiety. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child’s education. Fifth Grade

We're in fourth quarter! We're all excited in 5th grade. Students are counting down the days until they get to hear they're moving on to middle school. Parents please make sure that you have met with your child's teacher to get updates on your child's progress and promotional status. Yes! You can request conferences and we encourage it. Your child's participation in the end of the year field trip to Universal Studios is based on your child's academic success and behavior. Please encourage your child to continue to do their best.

IND Special Program

The students have worked very diligently and have now completed their Florida Standards Alternate Assessment (FSAA).

On April 5th, the students will be at Nova Southeastern University participating in the Special Olympics basketball competition. A special thanks to Coach Grant and the 4th graders for practicing with us. That's Tedder teamwork! On May 1 - 12, we will be going to Swim Central at the Deerfield Beach pool to learn or improve upon our swimming skills and water safety. This is always a fun time for all! Please make sure that your child has a bathing suit so they may participate.

Spring is here and it’s testing season. Teachers have worked very hard to prepare our students for the upcoming FSA ELA (reading) and math tests. Students in Fourth and Fifth grade will take the ELA portion of the FSA on April 19thand 20th. We wish them good luck as they do their best on the test. Students will also be taking their final BAS assessment in grades K through 5. Students are expected to have shown growth by increasing their instructional level and hopefully reaching the desired level by the end of the school year. Instructional BAS level scores are used for promotion criteria in primary grades. Although FSA ELA testing will be done in April, teachers are continuing to teach strategies to increase students’ reading ability. You can help at home by having your child read for at least 15 to 20 minutes each night depending on their grade, and completing iReady lessons weekly.

I'd like to thank our Tedder administration, staff, and parents for their contributions in helping to make a beautiful spring music program, "All Living Things" on April 7.

A special shout out to all my club players who practiced so very hard and did so well : violin, chorus, young singers, xylophone, ukulele, and recorder for their excellent musical efforts and discipline. I look forward to making music with you next year if you will be in 4th or 5th grade. To my 5th graders, it was a joy to teach you and I wish you much success in all your endeavors.

The final program will be for kindergarten and their parents: "Jack and the Beanstalk" on May 19 at 8:50-9:15 a.m. Hope to see you K parents there!

MediaDream It! Achieve It!During our Media Special each week our students check out books, use iPads and work in our Maker Space. Our students are coding with OSMO and Dash & Dot. They are building, creating with our new building kits.In March we will be focusing on the FINDS Research Model during Week A and learning how to use some of the presentation tools on our iPads. During Week B we are working in our Maker Space in which students are given challenges that help them problem solve and use critical thinking skills. Please as your child about the challenge he or she completed. Check out our new website to see their creations.Ask your child “What is a Maker Space?”A Maker Space is a collaborative workspace inside a school, for making, learning, exploring and sharing that uses high tech to no tech tools.Important Book News:Many of our students have overdue books or lost books and many have book fines from years past. If you child has an overdue/lost book they will be receiving a letter with the information of the lost book fine and how you can pay the fine. Remember the fine stays on their record until they pay and it follows them even if they change schools.

Dual Language ProgramMay 23, 2017 -8:30AM

In 2015 Tedder Elementary started a Dual Language Program in French or Spanish in Kindergarten. This program has

continued to move up into First Grade and now for next school year into Second Grade. Students enrolled in our Dual

Language program receive 1 ½ hours of Spanish or French daily. Instruction includes speaking, writing and reading the

language. In addition, all students in the Dual Language program also receive Reading, Math, Science and Social

Studies in English. It is the goal of our program to ensure these students can read, write and speak in two languages by the

time they complete elementary school. They are encouraged to continue with language instruction in Middle and High School.

On Tuesday, May 23 at 8:30AM we invite all families of students who presently are participating in the program to a Dual Language Show. Students will be showcasing what they

have learned this year and parents will get important information about next school year.
