What is the Tech Museum of Innovation?

• A non-profit technology and science museum located in San Jose, CA, that prides themselves with being hands on

• The museum’s mission is to inspire everyone to be an innovator

• This is accomplished through the museum’s many exhibits and resources which will be discussed later on

Tech Awards – November 15, 2012• A signature, international program of

the Tech Museum • This award honors innovators from

around the world who are applying technology to benefit humanity

• The program honors individuals, non-profit organizations and for-profit companies who either created a new invention or an innovative use of an existing technology

• To be considered as a Tech Award laureate, applicants must fill out an online application

• The Tech Award has 5 criteria categories that the technology/invention has to meet in order to be eligible

• Each year, The Tech Awards Gala is held; where over 1400 innovators in the technology industry gather to celebrate

• This years Gala will be held on November 15, 2012

• Award Categories include:▫ Environment▫ Education▫ Young

Innovator▫ Health ▫ Economic

Development▫ Sustainable

• Officially called The Hackworth IMAX Dome theatre

• Most powerful movie experience in the whole world

• Located in the Dome of the Museum

• Dome is 82 feet in Diameter and 9000 square feet in area that helps to boost the experience

• 13,000 watts of wrapped digital music inside the theatre that provides the best audio experience in the whole world

• Architectural construction inside the theatre is fantastic

• Ultimate place to enjoy the best experience of watching a movie

• Is currently being remodeled until mid October

Festivals VivaFest! @ The Tech

▫ Mexican Heritage Corporation presents a family oriented festival centered on films but also showcasing music, arts and educational events. Mexican music and dance workshops will also be available. The showings will take place at the IMAX. The films will be Latino themed and produced.

▫ Films start at 7pm and are happening from September 8th- 30th

▫ Features 20th anniversary presentation of

“Like Water for Chocolate” “2012: the Maya Calendar

Revealed”▫ Pricing: $8-$20 per show

FestivalsZERO1

▫ The biennial celebration of contemporary art and technology that takes place from September 12th to December 8th. There is an art street crawl that will transform the city streets with artists, dancers, and engineers. There will also be several artists talks and events to meet with artists.

▫ More than 100 exhibitions, performances, art projects and panels

▫ Special reveal of The Tech Silicon Innovation Gallery will happen at this event!

FestivalsBay Area Science Festival 2012

▫ This festival showcases innovative work in science and technology in the Bay Area. It is designed to let the public learn about science, technology and engineering. Several Events are taking place from October 27th to November 4th. Most events are FREE!

▫ Events range from Tech Lab demonstrations to flight innovation to learning about local scientists to playing with robots. There are activities for all ages- including a 21 and up Day of the Dead event.

Tech Challenge 2012 – Asteroids Rock!

• Annual team event for students grades 5 – 12. Teams of two to six students learn and build science and engineering skills while trying to solve real world scenarios

• Students must build a device out of ordinary items (found around the home or class room) that will transport cargo across a ravine and drop loads on multiple locations on the rig

• Students will be judged on many criteria▫ Completion of task within allotted time▫ Performance of device ▫ Process tracking (journal)▫ Style and design▫ Presentation to judges▫ Team work 

•  • Mission training, The Tech holds additional

clinics to help along the way▫ Info clinics – to lean the mission and what is expected▫ Team Workshops – students can learn additional

techniques to assist in their build▫ Advisor Training – for the team advisor to assist

student with development and support▫ Test Trials – open time to test transport device on the

actual rig used in completion▫ Judges Training – judges learn about the judging

process

Mythbusters: The Explosive Exhibition

• The exhibit runs from October 13-January 6

• You use the scientific method of observation, measurement and testing

• The exhibit is family-friendly for all ages interested in science and how things work

• This is a hands-on learning environment where you can test theories and hypothesis

• Explore authentic props and gadgets straight from the MythBusters set!

After Hours Program• Get together for adults above

21 years old• Hosted every month in order

to make the public share their thoughts with one another

• Various activities are conducted like games and dance with live music

• Food with limited menu is served

• Birthday parties are hosted for all to celebrate at the museum

• Very good experience for all to learn and enjoy at the same time
