COMMUNITY MANAGER’S REPORT
By Cathy Meek
Spring is in the air and this is a perfect time of year to enjoy the outside before our temperatures soar into the
triple digits! Plants are recovering from the winter hibernation, coming back to life and we are starting to see
blooms everywhere. Enjoy this time of year before the temperatures soar into the triple digits.
Very soon we will be welcoming in a full Board of Directors and resuming the projects within the association
and I have no doubt they will be ready to keep Sunflower moving forward and functioning for all.
Now is the time to make sure your yard is free of weeds, shrubs trimmed so they are not encroaching on any
sidewalks and see if your home needs to be repainted including the fascia which is the wood trim underneath
the roofline.
This time of year also brings on projects that you may consider at your home. Please remember that if you are
changing anything to the outside of your home (examples: adding a patio, wall, fence, painting your home,
landscape) you do need to submit an ARC form that will need to be approved by the ARC Committee.
All homeowners should have received their semiannual assessment either by mail or email. This is due April
1st and it is late on the 30th. If you did not receive it for any reason please contact management. If you drop
your payment off at the center please make sure it is a personal check (no money orders or cashier checks) and
that there is a phone number on the check and your account number.

ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE
By Jim Conley, Co-Chairman
The first ARC meeting of March the committee
reviewed ten (10) applications. We are pleased to say
all of them were approved. They ranged from walls
and gates to patio additions to house painting. The
reason they all went smoothly is they had good
supportive material. No guessing was necessary.
Thank you on behalf of the committee.
Some concerns usually happen to arise at this time of
the year. Weeds are now in full growth and need to be
removed. Bushes are growing rapidly and some
extend over sidewalks. These need to be trimmed
back.
Remember property inspections are year round
and weed growth is written up more than any other
infraction. Another concern we hear about is front
and patio lighting that uses high intensity bulbs.
Please use warm lighting bulbs. Your neighbors will
appreciate it.
ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE GAME NIGHT
By Activities Committee
On March 7th, we had our first Game Night
sponsored by your recently reorganized Activities
Committee. As the night went on, it was obvious
everyone was having a great time, meeting new
people and playing fun games like Yahtzee, Tile
Rummy, Farkle, and 42 dominoes. If you like to play
games and cards, come join us for Game Night. The
next date will be determined at our monthly meeting
so stay tuned to the Sun Catcher for the date and
time!
WELCOMING COMMITTEE
By Lynn Haye
Are you a new homeowner in Sunflower? The
Welcoming Committee would love to meet you and
provide you with a helpful information packet that
includes maps, coupons, activity/club information,
etc, in your new community! Please contact Liz Perry
at [email protected] or Lynn Haye at 520-
6741, to help get you connected.
HIGHLIGHTING AN EMPLOYEE
Each month we will be highlighting an employee at
Sunflower. The following is what Heidi Butt had to
say.
I’m Heidi and I’ve been at Sunflower for six months.
I really enjoy my work and getting to meet and get
know residents. Here’s a little about me. I spent my
early years in a very small town in south central
Pennsylvania and went to kindergarten and first grade
there. Then we moved to State College where I went
to 2nd and 3rd grade. It was back to the mountain to
live in the cabin in the woods for 4th and 5th grades
and then on to Shippensburg, PA for 6th through 8th.
Finally, a move to Albuquerque, NM allowed me to
finish 9th through 12th grades. My daughter,
Haleigh, was born in Albuquerque but we moved to
Oklahoma City before she was one to join my mom
who was doing a post doc there. Then it was on to
Fayetteville, AR for two years. I met my British
husband, Rich, on AOL, in a chat room, and we’ve
been married for 22 years (online romances DO
work!). Haleigh and I went to England for a visit and
ended up staying for 18 years. My husband and I
raised four children – at one point we had four kids 4
and under! After the three older kids grew up and
moved out, we decided to move to Arizona to be
close to my family. We sold everything we owned
except for our 1968 Camaro and our 4 black cats.
We’ve been here for four years and are lucky to have
a pool for the very HOT Arizona summers – quite a
difference from the rain and dampness of England.
Our youngest son Jacob (21 years old) who has
severe autism, moved here with us. In my spare time,
I enjoy working on the Camaro and going to car
shows. I sometimes drive the Camaro to work now
and then, so keep an eye open for her. She is called
Lola!!!!!! Look forward to seeing you all around
Sunflower ;)

ARTISTS GALLERY
By Lori Chase
Our featured artist for the month of April is Ken
Easton. This is his sixth "gallery" year.
Ken and his wife Shirley have been Sunflower
residents since 2001.
In addition to being a professional musician for 60-
plus years--performer, composer, arranger, producer,
and studio musician in Hollywood--he also enjoys the
challenges of creating art in his "colorist" style.
Ken employs colored pens and pencils on paper. His
expressive styles are influenced by Marcia Baldwin,
Terrance Guardipee, Johnathon Harris, and Charles
Wysocki.
Each piece is priced at $100, including frame and
glass. The Eastons donate all monies to charity. As a
cancer survivor, Ken has committed 50 percent of any
sales to the American Cancer Society. The remaining
50 percent will be donated to the Marana Community
Food Bank. To date, nearly $6000 has been donated
to these wonderful charities.
Our artists for the month of May are the resident
students of Sharon Fannin. They are students with an
interest in art but needed a little push. Maybe it was
the wine (if they brought it)? The class was called
“Painting Uncorked.” We looked forward to seeing
their acrylic paintings.
The community was in AWE over the baskets that
were on display. Thank you, Weaving Wizards for
another beautiful presentation of your baskets. We all
look forward to your next show.
We still need resident artists for the months of July,
August, and September.
CRAZY RHYTHM
By Allen Fannin
When: Friday, April 24th
Time: 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Where: Fiesta Room
Come relax and reminisce to the musical sounds of
the Big Band Era presented by Paul Mowatt and
Allen Fannin. Feel free to bring your favorite
beverage and snacks. Invite your friends.
MARANA FOOD BANK
Did you know that Sunflower residents donate to the
Marana Food Bank and there is a basket to drop the
food in at the Village Center? Also, check donations
can be left at the front desk for the Marana Food
Bank. Sunflower residents are very giving: let’s
continue to be in the giving spirit to help those in
need with adding to this ongoing Food Drive.
THE PRIMAVERA FOUNDATION
Patrick & Maureen Steliga
The organization is in need of the following:
● Foot Powder (any size)
● Socks
● Feminine Hygiene items
● General Hygiene items
● Canned Food (w/pop top lids if possible)
● Used, empty prescription bottles (labels removed)
Please place items in the Primavera box in the lobby
(Next to Marana Food Bank box).
Thanks for your donation.

SPRING YARD SALE
By Janice Brown
Don’t forget…the Spring Yard
Sale is coming up!! Sign up at
the Village Center for the
Saturday, April 25th Spring
Yard Sale. There is a $5.00 fee to defray the cost of
maps, signage, and advertising. The deadline for
signing up is Tuesday, April 21st.
The weather should be perfect – the time is 7:00 a.m.-
1:00 p.m. Good luck for a successful sale. Here are
some tips to help sell those items.
Create an organized display. Lay out your
items by category and display items to appeal
to your customers.
Stock up on bags and newspapers.
Newspapers are handy for wrapping fragile
items.
Manage your money. You should be sure to
have ample change on hand for your cashbox.
Advertise – Use balloons and signs with prominent
arrows, etc. to grab the attention of people driving
by.
We will coordinate with Big Brothers/Big Sisters to
pick up items after the sale that you leave at the curb
or near your garage door. Please clearly mark your
items for pick up.
SIGN UP TODAY!
SUNFLOWER HEALTH FAIR
By Pam Liddil
The 2020 Sunflower Health Fair was held February
15, 2020 at the Sunflower Village Center. We had a
record breaking 30 vendors, beautiful weather, and
many Sunflower residents came to meet with the
vendors and learn new information. There are lots of
businesses that our residents do not know are
available to help them, no matter what your situation
is now or in the future.
For a day in February, the weather could not have
been more delightful and was certainly conducive to
sitting outside and enjoying the food cooked for us by
The Station. The Northwest Fire Department again
provided their trucks, ambulance, and their
employees.
We had vendors that can help with your computer
issues, legal matters, care issues, and Walgreens was
there again giving
away all kinds of free
items to our residents.
The Fair was very
well attended and a
great success!
Thank you,
Sunflower residents for coming out and participating.

BOCCE
By Ed Alsobrooks
We have had great numbers of players every Tuesday
and Thursday during February and March. We’ve
averaged around 27 players for each session and had
a high of 30. That is fantastic! With that said, we
know that it’s that time of year again when our
snowbird members start to think of returning to their
summer abodes. We’re sorry to see you leave but
wish you good times and safe travels. We’ll keep the
light on for you.
The “Celebration of Bocce” party held on Fat
Tuesday in the Fiesta Room was a huge success. We
had more than 60 people in attendance, plenty of
food, fun, and socializing. It was great to see so many
people wearing their medals, both past and present. It
was a great reflection of the many years of great
Bocce here at Sunflower.
If you’re new to Sunflower or you’ve wonder about
the game of bocce, come on out and see us. We play
on Tuesday and Thursday at 1:00 p.m. We’d love to
meet you. We’ll teach you the game in one session
and introduce you to some fun and friendly folks
from your neighborhood.
If, at any time, you have questions about bocce or the
Sunflower Bocce Club, contact either Marty Rice 579
-6451 or Ed Alsobrooks 638-5703.
CRIBBAGE
By Bruce Farrell
We invite you to have some fun playing single or four
-hand Cribbage on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. in
the Craft Room at the Village Center.
BOWLING NEWS
By Michele Meier
With the bowling
banquet behind us,
we get down to the serious business of bowling (not);
well, we are here to have fun too!
This past month we’ve had some folks step up to the
line and bring in some real improvements to their
game:
Shirley Bailey had a high game of 147, Keith Leikel
high game of 234, Evie Burton a high game of 159
for a series 456. Toni Klimp bowled a 175; a
whopping 52 pins over average. Dan Primuth a high
game of 194 for high series of 507. Floyanne Blouin
bowled three great games for a high series of 438.
Judy Lucky high game of 156 for high series of 411.
Roger Steen high game of 167 for high series of 448.
Linda Ottley brought her high series up to 549;
Bonnie Scott high game of 212 for a high series of
565. Larry Wold high series of 569, and Bob
Sergisson has surged to a 709 series.
By the time this edition comes out, we will have had
our semi-annual pizza party at Barro’s. It’s always a
big hit after intense competition (not) as we have
worked up an appetite. As usual, we thank our
committee of Janet and Bob Sergisson for putting this
together.
Bowling takes place on Friday afternoons at Fiesta
Lanes. Please come by 12:30 p.m. for a 12:45 p.m.
start. Call Evie Burton at 520-744-3121 with
questions.

Don’t let that deter you. Our Monday evening group
is just the group for you. Playing bridge involves
strategy, using your memory and enjoying social

Indeed, our Monday evening group takes a fun
approach to bridge. We love learning from mistakes
and enjoy learning more about this challenging,
sometimes frustrating, but always fun game. We play
every Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. at different
Sunflower residents’ homes. If you want more
information or want to find a date to visit, contact

SUNFLOWER MEN’S GOLF CLUB
By Don Sanderson
Our annual Net Championship is completed. We
played three separate courses, two times each, and the
lowest net score from each course was totaled to
determine a Champion. This year’s Net Champion is
Jeff Jewett.
As of this writing, we are playing our Club
Championship events. The field is divided into four
flights by handicap and play-a-match-play format.
Good luck to all who participate.
Our schedule of events is posted on our website,
www.golfgenius.com/ggid/65tm56. If you would like
to join us as a guest, please contact a member or
myself.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with our club,
we play twice a week (Monday & Thursday) at
various golf courses in the area (all the way from
Benson on the east to Tubac on the south to Casa
Grande on the north). If you enjoy the game and are
looking to make some great friends, come join us. I
can be contacted at [email protected] or
(520) 241-7676.
MEN’S 9 HOLE
By Dale Tabor
The Men’s Nine Hole Golf Group welcomes our
Sunflower Community to fun golf. We hope you will
challenge yourself to the game and enjoy playing the
beautiful golf course that is your neighbor “The
Quarry Pines” located just 10 minutes from
Sunflower.
Yes, we all want to play the game well: however, we
are a fun group and that’s what we feel golf is about.
So, take a couple of hours out of your busy schedule
on Wednesdays and join us! Should you have family
or friends in town, put their names on the sign-up
sheet and they are welcome to play.
The sign-up book is on the table near the Fitness
Center. The number of people signed up will be
called into the Pines by noon Monday for the golf cart
reservations.
Spring-summer we play the back nine 7:30 a.m.
Fall-winter the front nine is played at 2:00 p.m. We
will be looking forward to seeing you at the “T” box.
If you have questions, call Dale Tabor at 520-579-
9904.

PICKELBALL CLUB
By Terri Lackey
The Pickleball Club put on their first Pickleball Clinic
on March 4th & 5th from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. We
had 32 participants during the two-day clinic. The
participants went through a series of four stations
which included serving, short -game, third shot drop,
and moving to the kitchen. Everyone had a great
time. We would like to thank the instructors: Tim,
Curt, Greg, and Billy for running such a successful
fun clinic.
The weather makes this a good time to give Pickleball
a try. For beginners interested in learning the game,
free lessons can be arranged by calling or texting
Billy Lackey at 520-870-9111. We have all the
equipment needed so you just provide a good pair of
athletic shoes and a bottle of water.
Social/Beginners play Tuesday, Thursday, and
Sunday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and
Wednesday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Competitive/Advanced play Monday, Tuesday,
Thursday, and Friday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to
10:30 a.m.
All levels play Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to
10:30 a.m.
The above hours are scheduled play times. The
courts are open every day with the available times
listed on the gate of court #3.

SUNFLOWER TENNIS CLUB
By Binki Thalman
Summer is on its way, so if you’d like to enjoy the
cooler weather before the heat gets here, please join us
for a round or two of fun tennis. We welcome all
residents who would like to play. If you haven’t played
in awhile and your skills are a bit rusty, you are
encouraged to come out for informal round robin play
at 8:30 a.m. If you prefer a more serious game, join us
for scheduled doubles.
We hope you didn’t try to watch the BNP Paribas Open
in Indian Wells as we suggested last month. It, like
many other well-attended sporting events, was
canceled. Guess we’ll have to watch reruns for awhile,
or play/watch on our own courts:-).
Here’s the Sunflower doubles schedule for April:
Mixed Doubles: 8:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday,
Friday, and Saturday.
Ladies Doubles: 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
Sunflower Scheduled Doubles—times will be in your
signup email.
To sign up for Scheduled Doubles, or tennis questions
in general, please contact Rich
Maust ([email protected]).
PINOCHLE
By Harlan Quinn
If you like to play single-deck pinochle, join us from
1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoons in the
Library. There is no cost and no reservations are
needed, just show up. We play partners and/or three-
handed pinochle depending on the number of players
present. For information, call one of the contacts listed
on the Contact List in this Sun Catcher.
PING PONG GROUP
By Buzz Hoffmann
We would love to have new players join us for ping
pong on Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m. and Sundays at 1:00
p.m. All playing levels, including beginners, are
welcome for a fun time of ego-free and often times
aerobic ping pong. We have known for years that
working crossword puzzles and listening to Mozart are
good for the brain. Ping pong (table tennis) may well
be the world’s best brain sport. Our playing times may
vary, so check the Fitness schedule in the Sun Catcher.
Please check Fitness Calendar for occasional time
changes.
TRIVIAL PURSUIT
By Vicki Keener
Players wanted. We will play the 2nd and 4th Sundays
of the month from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the
Library. We will form teams of two, three or four. The
purpose is to relax, have fun, meet new neighbors, and
exercise your brain. Come join us, please. No dues!

CRAFT CLUB
By Jeanne M Collins
The first three weeks in March we painted lanterns
using a faux stained glass process. Everyone selected a
different design to paint. It’s amazing when the paint
dries how much it resembles real stained glass. It was a
fun project and the finished lanterns were amazing!
This month we’ll color/paint on ceramic tiles to be
given to new homeowners in their Welcome bag. We
ended the craft season enjoying a wonderful lunch and
saying our good byes to our members leaving for their
summer destinations.
It’s been a fantastic craft season and we welcomed
many new members. I would like to thank everyone
for their ideas and help and the many laughs we shared.
The craft club meets from October to April.
I hope everyone has a safe and fun summer. I look
forward to seeing you in the fall.

BEGINNING AND INTERMEDIATE
By Karen Barta
Line Dance is on Fridays, except the 1st Friday of the
month. Beginning class from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00
a.m., Intermediate class from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00
p.m. This class will be a little faster pace with some
dancing experience needed. We will learn new
dances from beginner to intermediate. Line dancing
is not difficult and anyone can do it. The steps are
easy and it's a great exercise for both the mind and
body. Anyone is welcome to join in one or the other
class but please be advised that I can't slow down and
give extra attention in the advanced class. Hope to see
you there. Any questions please call Karen Barta at
586-292-6177.
SUNFLOWER GENEALOGY SOCIETY
By Arnold Mabile
"Cultural History in Genealogy" will be the topic
of the day when the Society gathers in the
Community Center's Fiesta Room at 2:00 p.m. on
Thursday, April 21st. I considered it my good fortune
to be the designated Speaker/Presenter for this
topic. It gave me a good reason to start "brushing up"
on long neglected history studies. We may find in the
course of this session that knowing the people on our
"trees" better is far more interesting when we
consider the times and areas in which they lived.
We will look at several different eras in American
and European history and identify events and people,
who may, in general, have influenced and
distinguished the activities of your ancestors in their
own times and cultures. What we learn from this may
put additional luster on lonely branches of the family
tree. Handouts identifying the books and periodicals
used in preparing for this discussion will be
provided at the meeting.
QUILT CLUB
By Pat Blazick-Peterson
Drunkard's Path is a traditional
historic pattern originally using
two colors: a light and dark solid
fabric. The creative quilters of
this century are now using light,
medium and dark fabrics with and
without patterns. The options in
arranging the blocks grows with new techniques,
fabric, and new creative quilters. This block was
taught in March.
Please stop by to join in the comradery, learning, and
just plain fun! Quilter's meet Thursday and Friday
9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. weekly. Business meeting is
first Thursday of the month. Happy sewing and
quilting!

We will keep you informed as time goes on about
future events.

SUNBIRD CAMPERS CLUB
By Joe Yearous
The Sunbird Campers Club is an informal group of
people who share an interest in the RV/Camping
lifestyle and other activities that involve the outdoors-
whether you own a motor home, tent, travel trailer,
pickup camper, or fifth wheel trailer or have in the
past, or hope to in the future. It does not matter; you
are welcome to join us. Most members are residents
of the Sunflower Community, but others in our
immediate area are welcome.
We hold occasional organized business- type
meetings, but only on special announcement. Please
note, there will be no business meeting in April.
These meetings are usually held at a member’s home,
but may occasionally be held at a local café or “pub.”
Between October and May we try to plan a few trips
to an interesting event, a point (or points) of interest
or just to get out and enjoy life. In most cases, there
will be nearby motels/hotels for those members no
longer desiring or able to “rough it.” You may check
our website www.sunbirdcampers.org or contact me
at 520-444-2352 if you are interested.
SUNFLOWER READERS
By Anita Howard
The Readers’ Club is growing, and that means our
discussions about books just get more interesting. We
meet the second Tuesday of each month in the
Library at 7:00 p.m. For the month of April, we are
reading the The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the
Rules by Catherina Ingelman-Sundberg.
I think we all decided that during this tumultuous
time in the world, we could use a lighthearted book
that would make us laugh a little.
The Readers’ Club will continue to meet during the
summer. If you leave during the summer, you might
want to clip out this list and save it for your own
reading pleasure. If you are here for the summer, I
will continue to send reminders about the meetings.
Here is the list of books that we voted on.
May – Harriet Tubman: The Road to Freedom
by Catherine Clinton
June – The Giver of Stars by JoJo Moyes
July – The Soul of America by Jon Meacham
August – Zelda: a Biography by Nancy
Milford
September – The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi
Coates
SUNFLOWER COMMUNITY
VETERANS CLUB
By Richard Long
Even though the weather wasn’t warm and sunny, the
Annual Veterans Club winter cookout and fundraiser
was a wonderful success. Over 190 tickets were sold
and the resulting profit was slightly over $1,100. We
will be combining these funds with other gifts
recently received. So that some local agencies can
continue working with veterans in need in our
community. Donations will be going to the Marana
Chapter of Disabled American Veterans, VA
caregiver program, and Tucson Veterans Serving
Veterans. Thank you one and all.
Our April 1st speakers, and no this is not an April
fool’s joke, will be Border Patrol Agents Njahgemeya
(Najee) Ku Xi-Ra and Mark Garrish. They are the
community liaison agents assigned to US Border
Patrol-Tucson Station. While they have a variety of
educational programs to offer, they will be presenting
a power point presentation “Border Patrol 101” which
focuses on the overall mission, the latest technology/
infrastructure, current trends and broader border
issues. If you have an interest in border issues, you
are invited to be our guest. The meeting begins at
9:30 a.m. in the Fiesta Room.
Several Sunflower residents are regular volunteers at
the Southern Arizona Veterans Health Care Service
on 6th Avenue in Tucson. If you are looking for a
way to contribute to the veteran community, this may
be a great place to begin. In previous years, well over
10 million volunteer hours were logged nationally;
this alone contributed to the equivalent of almost
6,000 full time employee positions. There are a
variety of duties available and efforts are made to
match your skills with a need. Contact the Voluntary
Service center at 520-629-6988 to get more
information or get a volunteer application from Tom
Shambo.

SUNFLOWER PHOTO CLUB AND
WORKSHOP
By Pat Miller
Our monthly meetings (second Monday of each
month at 10:00 a.m. in the Fiesta Room) are a great
way to take your skills to another level. The members
share pictures, techniques and discuss their works.
Each month we have an “assignment” that is designed
to get the members out to search for the shots that
capture the task at hand. Members then choose and
bring their 3-best “recent” photos. The pictures taken
are shared, then an image is informally chosen from
the entries as the “best in show.”
The March assignment was wildflowers. With all the
winter’s rains, finding great flowers was not hard
work - getting them to “stand still” in the recent
winds was another tale!
Upcoming assignments:
April 13th - Bicycle memorials. Along roadsides are
memorials to riders who perished while biking. Find
a memorial, then capture it in its best light/context.
May 11th - unusual cacti
June 8th - “neon”
July 13th - American Holidays (Memorial Day, Flag
Day, Fourth of July)
For more information, please join us at our meeting
or email Pat. If you or someone you know would be
a willing speaker on a photography topic, please
contact Pat.
Club members
would also
appreciate
information about
local/regional
photographic
exhibits that are
running. Let me
know, too, so I may
share.

SUNFLOWER TRAVEL CLUB
By Frances Gauthier
Our Spring Membership Meeting will be on Tuesday,
April 7th at 5:00 p.m. We will have our semi-annual
meeting followed by a light meal. The last day to buy
your ticket is on Wednesday, April 1st from 1:00 p.m.
to 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $1.00. Please note that you
must sign up and get a ticket to attend. This is for
current members only. Remember to bring your
ticket if you have already signed up. We look
forward to seeing all of our members and getting
input for future trips.
For your information: Due to Governor Gavin
Newsom’s recent declaration of a State of Emergency
for California due to the spread of the Coronavirus,
the Sunflower Travel Club Board decided to “err with
caution” rather than “err with regret,” and canceled
the San Diego trip.
TECH CLUB
By Tim Walter
We will try to bring you something, somehow, this
month from the Tech Club. It may be an online class,
or a proper social distancing presentation on the
patio. I will work with our planned presenter, Karen
Rorke from Watermark who is our scheduled
presenter. So, watch for the updated e-mails from the
tech club, and we will adjust as the circumstances
dictate. Please help us with apps that are helping you
get through this time. If nothing else, we can do a
zoom presentation and all share the neat things we are
learning as we are limited in our normal way of life.
VINTAGE GARDENERS
By Shirley Bailey
Think Spring! The Vintage Gardener meeting is
Monday, April 13th at 12:30 p.m. in the Fiesta room.
We will have a project update from our committee
working on the patio pots. I will be asking for HELP
in getting our website up and running. I now know
the background mechanics to share. Hoping some of
you “techie” gardeners will dive in and take on the
task.
For the April meeting, we will have a short
presentation on Tower Gardening. One of our
members has graciously offered us a hands-on view
of its operation in her backyard as part of our Page 19
meeting. We will have an Heirloom Seed catalog,
and Iris plant catalog available at the meeting for
orders (and possibly offer an Iris presentation come
Fall).
Bring your thoughts and ideas. Starting this month,
you can submit your gardening questions to
[email protected]. We will see what answers
pop up from our group or are we stumped! Wear
your VG button, and enter the raffle to win a prize!

and have some fun.

STRENGTH TRAINING
By Marlene Spencer

also reduced falls and improved arthritis symptoms.
Balance, coordination, flexibility and endurance are
also improved. This program is based on that
research and instructors must be certified.
This low-impact program is appropriate for both
sedentary and active people. Hand weights and ankle
weights are required: 1 to 2 pounds for women or 2 to
3 pounds for men.
