Celebrations & Announcements
July wasn’t the original name for the month. On the early Roman calendar, July was called Quintillis.
Julius Caesar was born in this month and the name was changed to Julius, or July, to honor him when he
was alive. Julius Caesar made major reforms to the inaccurate Roman
calendar, and his Julian calendar is still used in Eastern Orthodox
Christian countries. The Gregorian calendar that exists today in the West
is a slightly edited version of the Julian calendar.
Welcome to our New Residents!
Happy Gilligan x3209 Apt 215
Birthdays, groundbreaking and anniversaries were definitely in the mix this
month! We had our groundbreaking ceremony for The Cottages at Summit Square
on June 12th. This new building is a milestone for Summit Square and will make it
the first memory care center in this area! There was also a lovely party celebrating
the 20th Anniversary of Summit Square. It is hard to believe we have been here
since 1998! The weather was perfect and the evening began with a ceremony
featuring several speakers as well as a men’s quartet from
First Presbyterian Church. This was followed by a
delicious dinner prepared and served by our dinning staff.
A moving tribute to Summit Square and to those living
and working here was offered up in a toast by resident,
Jim Pullen. The night was topped off with the Valley
SuperSax Big Band who entertained us for the rest of the
evening. Dancing and
laughter were certainly part
of the evening! June was a
celebration of the past,
present and future of
Summit Square. I hope we
can all see where we have
been, appreciate where we
are and look forward to
what is to come.

Dr. David E. Wolfe, retired professional
chaplain, presented two wonderful seminars on
loss last month. A large group joined in on the
discussions for new insights into the process of working
through loss and grief. The first session focused on seven
tasks of mourning. The second session covered ways we can
help ourselves, but also help our friends and loved ones, when
dealing with loss. Please see me if you are interested in copies of
David’s handouts from his presentations. Things David said to
remember:
Grief is the working out of our losses
Each of us handles this differently
Most of us are resilient
Anxiety effects our ability to support those in grief
Mourning is culturally driven
It’s better to see grief as tasks to be worked through
Do you have ideas for other topics you’d like us to address in this
type of format? Just let me know!
