THE SPORT TREND that the fashion world has come to love is no longer as obvious as its initial inception.
For this issue a stylish group of fitness enthusiasts interpret the minimalist evolution of ‘athleisure’. The result is beautifully remixed performance pieces that work better on the street than in the studio.
From 3.1 Phillip Lim to Jason Wu, dewy complexions were all over the runway—a post-workout glow is perhaps most virtuous, but for the off days, our makeup artist Jessica Haisinger works her makeup brush to similar effect. And how could we chat (sartorial) sport without mentioning endurance, and so, our market pages highlight healthy and tasty treats to buy and make. Game, set, match.

“The design of athletic clothing is meant to be comfortable, breathable and allow for freedom of movement. These features appeal to so many people and are taking over mainstream.”

Experiment with performance-based fabrics. Neoprene and stretch jersey are on-point favourites for athletic-inspired looks.
THE STYLE GUIDE 9
“Simplicity is so elusive because it actually requires more work than its antithesis (chaos). It relies so much on restraint. It’s easy to pile on the accessories or have a cluttered workspace—
the law of entropy even says so. The universe is headed towards maximum disorder. Being a minimalist is a tough gig, but there is so much beauty in all that effort.”
— JUSTINE IABONIFASHION WRITER AND STYLE BLOGGER, JETSETJUSTINE.COM

“‘Athleisure’ is less of a trend and more of a permanent sea change in fashion. The most obvious reason stems from people
embracing healthier lifestyles. [But we] also demand more functionality from our wardrobes; with my extremely hectic
schedule, I need clothing that exudes comfort and style and that can take me from the gym/studio to the street.”

THE STYLE GUIDE 10
Dress up performance pieces with heels and hit the street in style.
Sharp tailoring and clean lines take sport chic to a whole new level.
“Although there is a simplicity to the sports luxe look, to pull it off as more ‘runway’ than ‘running errands in the ‘burbs,’ you have to have the right attitude to rock the look.”
—KAREN KWANWRITER, HEALTHANDSWELLNESS.COM
THE STYLE GUIDE 13
ALL AT TIGER OF SWEDEN.
Strike a balance. Leather and metallics instantly soften when paired with diaphanous materials and fluid shapes.
THE STYLE GUIDE 15
“For athletes, the less they have on to get in their way, the better—but that means what they are wearing has to be the best for their needs. In my style, I try to channel the same principle of choosing items that deliver on multiple
purposes, beyond pure aesthetics.”
—JEN MASSEAUEDITOR & STYLIST
TOPSHOP TOP, $68. BABATON SKIRT, $98 AT ARITZIA. ZARA HAT, $20 (MEN’S). TED BAKER SHOES, $170. FOREVER 21 EARRINGS, BRACELET. VINCE CAMUTO BAG.

“There’s something that’s just so appealing about the whole ‘sports luxe’ aesthetic—it’s sleek, cool and effortless. It’s also empowering. The fact that I, as a woman, feel more confident in a bomber jacket and
sneakers than a miniskirt and heels is pretty great—less is definitely more!”

Refresh and lighten up summer looks with accessories in pale marine hues. 1 Inspired by meditation and the concept of Zen, the design of these soft grey Nike ‘Roshe Flyknit’ runners ($155) consists of only the most essential elements and represents the beauty of simplicity in motion. 2 Use this Tiger of Sweden backpack to tote your essentials in sporty style. 3 Credited with shaping the direction of action sports and luxury product design, these rose-mirrored Jacques Marie Mage sunglasses ($695) at Kaltenbock are the perfect statement piece to complement an understated outfit. 4 The aptly named Fountain line of concentrated beauty supplements offers elixirs for energy, happiness and youth. An androgynous, somber palette epitomizes cool versatility. Say hello to your new summer essentials.
1 This Forever 21 necklace ($10, set of two) is simply perfect. 2 We are major fans of Leaves of Trees, a small batch, all-natural skin care brand. Everything is fantastic, and the effective ‘Eucalyptus Mint’ deodorant ($15) is no different. 3 Jacques Marie Mage sunglasses, $675 at Kaltenbock.
4 These Lacoste ($46) slides are too handsome to be restricted to the pool. Pair them with skirts and dresses for stylish contrast. 5 Charcoal has been used for centuries by the Japanese and Chinese for a variety of purposes, and Canadian company Savon du Bois has honed the ancient ingredient to create ‘Bamboo Charcoal’ ($6), a gentle, quadruple anti (-viral, -fungal, oxidant, -microbial) soap that we swear is a complexion game-changer. 6 Meiresthai offers jewellery that is stunning in its simplicity. Case in point: these easy-to-wear earrings ($45).

Comprised of magnesium and sulfate, simple Epsom salt is hailed as a beauty powerhouse with a multitude of amazing uses. Both a natural exfoliant and an anti-inflammatory product, the salt is a wonderful and cost-effective tool to create a luxe at-home spa experience. We particularly love Dr Teal’s Therapeutic Solutions Epsom Salt Soaking Solution ‘Relax & Relief with Eucalyptus Spearmint,’ $5.
AS A MUSCLE RELIEVERCreate a paste by dissolving a tablespoon of Epsom salt into a cup of hot water and cooling the solution in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. Apply to sore muscles after a workout.
EPSOM SALTSAS AN EXFOLIATORGently massage wet skin with handfuls of Epsom salt. The coarse texture will cleanse and get rid of dead skin cells.
AS A HAIR VOLUMIZERCombine equal parts Epsom salt and conditioner. Apply and leave in for 20 minutes before rinsing to help rid hair of excess oil, which can weigh hair down and leave it looking flat.
AS AN AFTER-SUN TREATMENTAnti-inflammatory properties make Epsom salt a great tool for alleviating sunburn irritation. Fill an empty spray bottle with 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt and 1 cup of water. Spray where needed.

We, too, share this love affair with the simplest of fabrics. The perfect pair of jeans is the one that you never want to take off, that see you from day through to evening—and around again. What separates the exceptional from the average is
an attention to detail, where every feature from the perfect cuff, stitch, wash and patch is carefully considered and chosen. Applauded among denim aficionados for this level of craftsmanship, every style of PAIGE jeans is wear-tested again and again—which is why, by the time you slip into a pair, they are an instant favourite.

I have often said that I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity...
