As a Director of Glasshape Ltd, I would like to personally thank you for setting aside some of your time to browse through our DuraShield® Marine Superyacht Glass Product Brochure, and to also thank you in advance for your interest.
Having for several years been closely involved in the High-End Specialist Glass market, I am pleased to offer my knowledge and the expertise of the team at Glasshape to our valued superyacht clientele.

Standards
All DuraShield® Superyacht Glass is manufactured to ISO 21005:2004 and is tested to ISO614:1989 standards. The product also meets and complies with MCA LY2, and BSMA25:1973.DuraShield® Superyacht Glass is endorsed on builds classed to Lloyds Register, Germanischer Lloyds, ABS, RINA, DNV, BV, and many world-renowned Flag States. The team at Glasshape will liaise with the appropriate societies throughout your build process, from the design stage to the vessel’s final acceptance and sign-off.

Reduce your Glass Weight!Due to the thorough testing that DuraShield® Superyacht Glasses are subjected to, and the amazing results witnessed by classification societies; by choosing DuraShield® Superyacht Glass you can dramatically reduce the weight of your vessel’s glass.
Some owners have been able to reduce the original specified glass weight by 25%. This is a huge benefit to any vessel, with ongoing fuel savings and efficiencies as all extra weight is an issue that both owners and yards are aware of.
TestingDuraShield® Superyacht Glass is thoroughly tested before any contract commences to ensure that all Class requirements, performance and safety standards are met. Testing consists of stamp and punch tests, drop tests, hydrostatic tests, and durability tests; they are undertaken to deliver a minimum 20% additional performance and safety margin.
As examples of the rigours to which we subject our products was the testing of a 32mm DuraShield® Deadlite, designed to eliminate traditional blanking plates.
The first window was pressurised to 150Kpa for five minutes, depressurised and repeatedly hit with a sledgehammer, shattering the glass. Despite this extreme treatment, when the glass was refitted and repressurised (again for five minutes), it remained completely watertight!
The second window was subjected to a pressure test, as was the first, which then withstood penetration of a 4kg steel ball dropped from 6 meters. The ball was dropped three times according to DIN 356 requirements. Again, this panel withstood a second pressure test, remaining watertight, even though the glass was broken.

manufactured down to an even radius of 1000mm at 2440mm girth, whilst the long (straight) edge
can be realised up to 3800mm!

DuraShield® Deadlite GlassSuperyacht owners and captains frequently ask the question “Why can’t there be a solution where we don’t have to carry metal deadlights on hull windows?” The answer is “THERE IS”!
DuraShield® Deadlite Glass is the answer. This is a twin wall product that offers glass on both the external and internal faces, and sports an incredibly ‘clear’ polyurethane interlayer that can be up to 15mm thick. It is this amazing interlayer that offers as much protection as a metal deadlight – except you can see through it!
Testing of this product is noted under ‘Testing’. Depending on your particular build, our DuraShield® Superyacht team will liaise with your Class Society to offer the best deadlight glass solution.

DuraShield® Storm-Shutter GlassThese days, most Superyacht owners and captains do not want to carry on-board storm-shutters. They take up valuable space, and are a hassle for the crew to manage.
DuraShield® Superyacht Glass is tested according to applicable standards including the LY2 code to eliminate the carriage of storm-shutters on-board. Should windows break during a storm, the incredibly strong DuraShield® interlayer locks the broken glass together to remain watertight; limiting water damage to valuable interior finishes.

DuraShield® Double GlazingGlasshape’s high performance double glazing can reduce heat loss
by up to 73%, and make the interior warmer, drier and healthier. Double-glazed windows help keep generated warmth inside, thus keeping the temperature more consistent and also reducing your
energy costs. Sound reduction is noticeably improved as well.
Double-glazing is made from two pieces of glass sealed together with an air space in between. The outer layer is bonded to the
outside of the vessel’s structure, whilst the inner piece can be made stepped inside the rebate to marry up with interior finishes.

DuraShield® Bullet-Resistant GlassFor the added security and peace of mind for any superyacht
owner, all DuraShield® Superyacht windows can have anti-ballistic properties added by incorporating AmmoShield®.
AmmoShield® glass is comprised of multiple sheets of silica glass laminated together with a polyacrylic interlayer between
them. The use of a scratch-resistant spall panel on the non-attack surface offers 100% protection to crew and passengers
alike. A real must for use in todays ever increasing risk of piracy and terrorist activity.
DuraShield® Switchable GlassWith Switchable Glass, you’ll see things in an entirely new light!
Privacy at the flick of a switch is where excellence and efficiency meet! Glasshape Switchable Glass can be incorporated into any flat glass window where privacy is required from time to time such as spa rooms, showers and owner’s cabins. Simply flick the switch and the glass goes opaque instantaneously. Available in a range of colours.

DuraShield® Acoustic GlassEngine noise is always an issue raised when any Superyacht or Launch is built. To combat this problem, a special interlayer of WhisperShield® laminate is added to the DuraShield® glass make-up. This layer has excellent sound-absorbing properties and will reduce noise by up to 85%.
Adding the WhisperShield® interlayer delivers a noise reduction performance three times better than a standard insulated glass unit. DuraShield® Acoustic Glass is excellent for use in engine room door panels, hull and saloon windows, or anywhere that will help give everyone a quieter cruising experience as well as a good night’s sleep!

DuraShield® E-Zone Thermal Resistant GlassE-Zone Thermal Resistant Glass is a highly successful product newly developed by Glasshape.E-Zone is a special laminated coated glass type, which when combined with our 3mm DuraShield® interlayer, acts as a thermal break between the glass layers. Thermal performances are almost identical with the performance of an insulated glass unit. E-Zone is available in all clear or tinted glasses.
E-Zone will reduce the overall glass thickness while still maintaining fantastic thermal resistance.
When incorporated with DuraShield® Heated Glass, the best of all worlds are realised, with no condensation, and very limited solar heat gain.
DuraShield® Fire-Resistant GlassSadly, some of the world’s finest yachts have on occasion been sunk because of fire. DuraShield® Fire-Resistant Glass is a product designed to eliminate this risk. Fully certified fire-rated glasses from (30 minutes up to 90 minutes) can be installed for areas such as galley and engine/control room windows.
All DuraShield® Fire-Resistant Glasses are custom made to client’s requirements.

DuraShield® Pirate-Resistant GlassIn today’s increasingly troubled world, Superyachts are becoming prime targets for pirates.
DuraShield® Pirate-Resistant Glass has been specially designed and constructed from incredibly robust laminated glass to achieve an extremely high level of Resistance to Physical Attack. Why is DuraShield® Pirate-Resistant Glass so superior?
It incorporates the latest technology in the use of an ultra-thick non-polycarbonate interlayer that provides startling performance. Its design (patented by Glasshape) makes attack weapons simply ‘bounce off’ without causing injury, whilst also making penetration all but impossible. In addition, this product will not scratch easily, yellow or distort as other polycarbonate products will. This super-lightweight glass is ideal for applications such as portlites, and lower-level glazing for extra attack resistance.
DuraShield® Heated GlassDuraShield® Superyacht Glass can now be electrically heated.
New technology allows the electrical heating of windows without the use of wires between the glass layers. A special metallic glass coating between the interlayer conducts power evenly over the glass surface, enabling it to gently warm the window. DuraShield® Heated Glass is ideal for wheelhouse windows, as well as areas where it is imperative to have a clear view of the outside.

DuraShield® Curved 2D Toughened Glass up to 3800mm x 2440mmToughened Superyacht glass curving in one plane can be manufactured down to an even radius of 1000mm at 2440mm girth, whilst the long (straight) edge can be realized up to 3800mm! At a maximum girth measurement of 2440mm, large curved wheelhouse windows can now be achieved.
DuraShield® Curved 3D Toughened Glass up to 2400mm x 1500mm x 300mmToughened Superyacht glass curving in more than one plane, such as conical windows, spherical shapes, as well as flowing uneven radius curves can be manufactured up to this size. This is excellent for bulwark glazing, and even curved internal spiral staircase glass.

The team at Glasshape will take on your superyacht glass project as if it was theirs. In choosing DuraShield® Superyacht Glass, not only are you choosing a great product, you are also choosing a great package put together by great people.
Glasshape will assist you by offering the following services:
1) Glasshape will work with the relevant classification society to gain appropriate design appraisal documents allowing the various proposed DuraShield® Superyacht Glass types to be used on the build.
2) Once a contract is in place with a client, a Glasshape technician will make a site visit and electronically measure all the required windows. There is now no need for a yard to make hard templates! All our electronic measurements are then held as CAD files. These files are held for future reference in case unforseen breakages occur or replacements are required at a later date.
3) Glass is manufactured, and shipped to the shipyard, along with all bonding and finishing adhesives as a complete package.
4) A Glasshape technician will make another site visit to assist the yard’s team with correct installation procedures.
