    DEFINITION OF MOTIVATIONAL INTERVENTION

The Intervention is to be a proud and wonderful experience. It is to honor, not

force the recipient in accepting the solution (treatment) as a gift.

The group's goal is to have presented with dignity and to know they all gave their

energy, time, and commitment under one roof, then to release emotionally and

    go on with their lives.

    • Springboard Effect

    • Foundation Energy

    • Unstick Patient and Family

    • Moment in One's Life

The deep intensity of caring individuals united to support one member is the

main ingredient of the Intervention presentation, and the groups public

declaration of love for one of its member is what makes the Intervention

    inspirational.

  • MOTIVATIONAL INTERVENTION

    STORTI MODEL

    27 | P a g e (C) Storti Model 2020

Most Interventions stay in the first phase with commitment to

treatment modality, closing remarks with escorting to the center.

The first phase approach is attractive to participants and acceptable

to the patient. This approach is the emotional appeal that connects

    with the heart.

    2. SPECIFICS

If contested or need of understanding urgency or desperation,

    then implements this phase:

Cue - "Jim, you might be more specific."

    • Specific example

    • Incidents concerning behavior

    • Concern per participant (40/60 Rule)

    If no concern stay with

    • Encouragement

    • Advantages in accepting solution

  • MOTIVATIONAL INTERVENTION

    STORTI MODEL

    27 | P a g e (C) Storti Model 2020

    3. FUTURE CONCERN

Patient will not accept the solution, it is time to end, you want to end

    with dignity and respect.

Cue -"Jane, with Bill not getting help today, what is your

    concern?"

    • Self concern

    • Disappointment, yet hopeful, reconsider

    • Patient's responsibility

    • Emotional withdrawal from roller coaster ride!

    • Group's completion of goals

    • Debrief, safety valve

    • Letters of encouragement and brochure

With the patient accepting help, the escort group is activated, and

short debriefing takes place once patient has left for treatment

    center.

  • MOTIVATIONAL INTERVENTION

    STORTI MODEL

    27 | P a g e (C) Storti Model 2020

    SIDEBAR #2

It has been my experience that the moment before the patient is

expected to walk in, many people, due to fear, stress, and/or anxiety,

become nervous and, in a panic, tell me they have "forgotten what to

say" or "have nothing to say." Thus, I have developed a "One Minute

Preparation" designed to keep a person focused on simplicity rather

than over-intellectualizing the message being conveyed. The "One

Minute Preparation" allows me to quickly remind the participant to:

    1. Be themselves;

    2. Speak from their heart;

    3. Stay with the theme of treatment acceptance today;

    4. Stay unified.

    • Intervention/premature ending S/O sabotage

  • MOTIVATIONAL INTERVENTION

    EXPLORE AND PROBE

This is the intervention presentation itself. I interweave the

participants into the appropriate phases and gain agreement to the

solution. However, this is not done the exact same way for every

intervention. The means by which we gain acceptance are variable

and must be implanted as we explore and find different roadblocks.

    2. INTERWEAVE PARTICIPANTS

    SUMMATION

The wonderful thing about self is that you’ll leave behind

something that is not tangible. It’s a great spiritual something.

That’s what you are. If you develop that, you’ll leave that to

    everyone you touch.
