Cekin Mansion is located on the edge of Tivoli Park in Ljubljana. The Baroque ma-nor house was built between 1752 and 1755 by Count Leopold Karl Lamberg. In 1787, it was given in gift to Ivana Lamberg, who was married to the riding master Lovrenc Szögeny. Ljubljana citizens Slovenized his surname and called Cekin Mansion after him. The mansion changed hands a num-ber of times up to the mid-20th century. It was nationalised after the Second World War, when the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Ljudska tehnika at first had premises in it, and in 1951 it became the home of the museum.
NATIONAL MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY HISTORY The forerunner of the National Museum of Contemporary History, originally called the Museum of National Libera-tion, opened its first permanent exhibition in 1955 and expanded a decade later with a branch in Castle Rajhenburg. On the basis of its mission, the National Museum of Contemporary History collects, preserves, documents, studies and exhibits the tangible and intangible heritage from the history of Slovene ethnic territory from the beginning of the 20th century onwards. In addition to permanent and occasional exhibitions, it provides a rich pedagogic program for children and young people. Organised groups are provided with guided tours led by a member of the professio-nal staff. Public viewing is available for the interested public.

Tivoli Mansion, which houses the Interna-tional Centre of Graphic Arts, stands at the end of Jakopič Promenade in the heart of Tivoli Park and can be reached by pleasant footpaths. The turbulent history of the mansion began in the 13th century, but it was com-pletely rebuilt at the beginning of the 18th
century and became a pleasant place of recreation for the citizenry. The mansion served various owners over the centuries and for various purposes; Field Marshal Radetzky was one of its residents. It came into the hands of Ljubljana City Council in the second half of the 19th century. At that time, a fountain was set up in front of the mansion, balustrades were arranged, the staircase was replaced and four bronze statues of tongueless dogs were erected. After the Second World War, it was occupied by tenants until its recent renovation.
MGLC – INTERNATIONAL CENTRE OF GRAPHIC ARTS was founded by the City of Ljubljana in 1986. Today the institution holds an extensive collection of prints and artist's books, arranges exhibitions of contemporary art, issues publicati-ons, offers printmaking workshops and demonstrations for all generations, and organises numerous professional, popular and social events. New works of art are regularly created in the printmaking studios. The soul of the house is the Ljubljana Biennial of Graphic Arts, the 30th of which was held in 2013!
Ljubljana Castle, the crowning glory of the city, has helped shape the capital’s silhouette for more than five centuries. Archaeologists have confirmed uninter-rupted human occupation of the hill on which it stands from the Late Bronze Age onwards. Over the course of its rich history the castle has undergone many transformations and has witnessed numerous events which have had a decisive impact on the development of Ljubljana and Slovenia. At the end of the 18th century the Habsburgs, then owners of the castle intended to abandon it but because of protests from the Carniolan Provincial Estates they fortunately did not demolish it. Ljubljana Castle enjoyed its brightest moment in 1905 when Ivan Hribar, the then Mayor of Ljubljana, bought it from the state on behalf of the city with the intention of transforming it into a cultural centre. This came to fruition splendidly at the turn of the millennium.
When you ascend the castle hill by funicular railway, you are confronted with a wide choice of cultural opportunities in the attractively renovated castle buildings. The most prominent is The Viewing Tower, the highest point in the city. However, the
permanent exhibition of Sloveni-an History, the Penitentiary and the Virtual Castle are just as inte-resting. There are also tempting places to eat. All this and more can be found at the Ljubljana Castle, a city above the city.

On the banks of the Ljubljanica river, away from the bustle of the city centre, surro-unded by colourful, tranquil nature and the castle park, stands the only preserved Renaissance castle in Ljubljana. Stately and majestic yet warm and welcoming, it charms visitors and local residents on a daily basis. The castle was built in the 16th century by members of the Khisel family – rich merchants, humanists and art lovers.
The rooms, with arcaded walkways, are ranged around a spacious courtyard that includes the remains of a fountain and a mighty lime tree. The Renaissance buil-ding, with its four defence towers, still boasts numerous well-preserved historical features and wall paintings. Today, its inhabitants and the story of its past are brought fully to life through guided tours by museum experts.
MUSEUM OF ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN These extensively renovated premises house the central national museum of architecture and design, which preserves some 150,000 items from prominent architects, designers and photo-graphers of the 20th and 21st century. In a unique environment where past, present and a desire to discover the new meet, visitors can enjoy contemporary exhibitions, guided tours, workshops, a wide selection of publications and products in the mu-seum shop and numerous social events throughout the year. The museum is open
for free visits on the first Sunday of every month.
