HEADTEACHER’S NEWS
GCSE Examinations under way
Year 11 students have already completed many of their GCSE examina-
tions, and as more and more exams are brought forward to May we have
been impressed by the dedication and application of our students. In con-
trast to previous years we have dispensed with early study leave and con-
tinued teaching and learning right up to the day of the examination. Con-
sequently attendance has been very good and feedback from students
gives us real cause to be optimistic about this year’s results.
There is a GCSE History exam on the morning of Monday 1 June but
only the 14 students entered for this exam are required to attend school
on this day. School resumes after the half term holiday on Tuesday 2
June.

high quality candidates the following were appointed for 2015-16:
Head Boy—Liam Pardoe Head Girl—Olivia Worrall
Deputy Head Boy - Fraser Adams and Louis McGrail
Deputy Head Girl - Jordan Padley, Ellie Sommerton and Rachel Tuck

YEAR 7 NEWS
Homework – Pupils should be writing down homework in their planners and en-
suring it is completed and handed in on time (this includes printing it off –
teachers will not do it for you!). Homework club runs Monday to Thursday 3 –
4pm in the Skills Development Centre where a TA is always present to help pu-
pils if needed, this means there is no excuse for not getting homework done.
The new ‘Show my Homework’ system will begin in September which will also
help pupils get organised with their studies.
Attendance – Well done to all pupils with 100% attendance:
Uniform – Letters have been sent home to some parents about uniform issues in year 7, the most common be-
ing skirts of an inappropriate length and trousers which are too tight therefore not appropriate for school. I
understand it is not always simple and quick to find new uniform and we are coming up to the end of the aca-
demic year. For this reason I appreciate you may wish to wait until the summer holidays to purchase new uni-
form, when doing this please bear in mind the above as poor uniform reflects badly on the school. Thank you
to those parents who have responded to requests for uniform improvement.
Behaviour – Year 7 are building a positive reputation with teachers and pupils around the school and most be-
have in a pleasant and positive manner. However I sent a letter home about low level bullying during this term
due to a number of reports of issues during social time including name calling, insulting family members, push-
ing and shoving . Pupils should under no circumstances be behaving in this manner towards any member of the
school and it will not be tolerated, particularly now they are moving towards year 8 and become role models
for the younger years.

YEAR 9 NEWS
Exams— End of KS3 exams are imminent your son/daughter should have received a timetable of exams and
also they should be revising over half term and throughout June.
The exams take place in the hall in full public exam conditions. Students should have the correct equipment
and be wearing full school uniform. Failure to do this may result in students not being allowed to take the
exam.
Phoning home—Recently, on a number of occasions students have been bypassing the office and phoning
home directly if they feel unwell or unjustly treated.
This is not school policy. If a student feels poorly they must present themselves at the office. The staff
have medical training and will judge each child’s situation. The office staff will then phone home if the situ-
ation warrants it. As a school we are legally bound to look after the students from 8.35 until 2.50 pm. If a
student undermines this and phones home directly it causes significant safeguarding difficulties.
Chewing gum—Chewing gum is not permitted EVER.
Have a lovely half term.

Jamie Barrow Visit
We have been lucky enough to have another visit from Jamie Barrow, Britain’s fastest snowboarder. He
spent the day at school working with the year 7’s involved in the Living for Sport project and also with some
of our Gifted and Talented pupils in KS3.
The first 2 lessons of the day Jamie spoke to the project group about his career and how he overcame a
number of injuries to get to where he is now in his career. Jamie showed the group videos of his latest
stunts including his being towed behind a moving aeroplane, as well as the group doing some practical activi-
ties with Jamie.
He then met with some of our KS3 gifted and talented pupils again telling them about his career and how to
succeed in sport, or any other aspect of life.
The end of the day was back with the project group for goal set-
ting and thinking about how to succeed at what they want to. Ja-
mie spoke about the 6 keys to success and how everyone can
achieve their goals if they really want to.
All the pupils involved really enjoyed the day and were amazed by
some of his mad stunts he has performed!

YEAR 11 NEWS
Goodbye, Farwell and Good luck!
It only seems like yesterday that I stood in your Year 9 assembly and told you that that I would
be taking over as you Head of Year. As a year group you all seemed quite pleased. However I re-
member warning you that you may feel quite differently by Year 11. I make no apology for having
been a complete nag at times, because ultimately all I ever wanted was for you to get the most out
of your time at Stonehenge and succeed.
You have made me exceptionally proud these past two years, and I know Mrs Eveling felt the same.
All that is left to say is Good Luck with those final exams and fin-
gers crossed you all do well.
I’ll see you on the 20th August to celebrate!

Ninja Warrior Assault course challenge 7th May 2014.
On 7th May Students in years 7,8 and 9 took part in their own finals of an assault course challenge.
Students had taken part in heats during their PE lessons to see who could complete the brand new
assault course in the quickest time. The idea was inspired by the TV show Ninja Warrior, having
seen the TV show the students really got into the spirit. The top three boys and top three girls of
each year group went through to the grand final with the winners receiving an item of brand new PE
kit supplied by the schools new kit manufacturer Akuma.
The final was a was closely fought out contest held at lunch time with hundreds of students cheer-
ing on their peers. The course record was set by Year 9 student Finley Lloyd Gilmour at one minute
and two seconds.
The school received a grant from the Awards for All Lot-
tery funding scheme to build the assault course last summer
and it was installed over the Easter holidays. It’s based in
the schools year 7 and year 8 area to allow the younger stu-
dents a more active break and lunch time activity. It is also
now used in core PE lessons and helps the students in GCES
PE Lessons.
We have already had children from local primary schools at-
tend taster days and set them the challenge of setting the
fastest time. They really enjoyed it as it was something a
little different for them to attempt.

Are you interested in volunteering to help run the 1st
Amesbury (St Mary and St Melor) Scout Group??
The group has its own premises and a core of youth
members in the Beaver Scout and Cub Scout sections
but it does not have enough adult volunteers working
with the young people to organise and run the weekly
meetings or expand the group to provide Scouting for the 10.5 to 14 year age range.
If you are interested and would like some further information please contact David Waspe,
District Commissioner, Salisbury and South Wiltshire on 01722 421287 or alternatively
email him on [email protected]

Fundraising
Mrs Roberts is raising funds to start a new project ‘Catering on a Budget’. This project aims to
help students learn how to purchase and cook nutritious, healthy meals on a limited budget and will
be run after school. We would like to thank Violet Farm Foods who have made a donation and also
3663 who have donated a large variety of ingredients. If you would like to know more about the
project or donate/provide help in any way please contact Mrs Busby, bus-
We would also like to thank Phoenix Motorcycle Training for their generous donation towards the
purchase of a new lighting for our Drama Studio. The Drama department put on various productions
throughout the year and the lighting is an important part for these events.
It is a fabulous acting experience for the students when we have a new Dimmer Rack and all the circuits working:
Actors and costumes are lit professionally.
At last, we have reliability again! No more sudden, unexpected black-outs.
And thanks again to you for helping make this possible.

LAMDA Performance Awards
The Stonehenge School offers students the opportunity to take LAMDA Acting examinations.
Although there is a one-off exam fee, coaching is free. There’s an after school LAMDA club
and students can also rehearse in lessons.
LAMDA is The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts and we’re one of their Private
Centres. Many famous actors, including Benedict Cumberbatch, Richard Armitage, Dominic
Cooper, Anna Chancellor and Chiwetel Ejiofor are LAMDA alumni.
All levels of LAMDA exams are accredited as recognisable equivalents to standard qualifica-
tions: Level 1 exams (Grades 1-3) are the equivalent of low grades at GCSE, Level 2 (Grades
4 and 5) high grade GCSE and Level 3 (Grades 6,7 and 8) have the equivalent UCAS points of
AS and A-Levels.
Ask Mr Jamieson for a LAMDA information letter.

MUSIC LESSONS ….
The music department now have some vacancies for any students wishing to take up music
lessons. We can offer lessons in singing, brass, woodwind, drums, guitar and Keyboard / pi-
ano. Lessons are £6 for 15 mins individual or ½ hr shared, or £11 for ½ hr Individual. Gui-
tar tuition is limited and priority may be given to those pupils doing GCSE music. We
strongly recommend those pupils who are doing GCSE Music have regular lessons, this helps
with gaining the best possible grades in the practical element.’
