Minute of Silence Virginia Law requires schools to start the day
with a ‘minute of silence’. The law allows for different
uses of the minute so that “each pupil may, in the exercise
of his or her individual choice, meditate, pray, or engage
in any other silent activity which does not interfere with,
distract, or impede other pupils in the exercise of their
individual choice.” The law also specifies “all pupils
remain seated and silent and make no distracting
display…” We begin our announcements with the
following statement, “As we begin another day, let us
pause for a minute of silence.” Following the minute of
silence, we conclude with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Please discuss this law with your students and help them
understand that the expectation is for students to remain
quiet.
Change of Address You must provide a form and proof of residency
to the Counseling Office. The Change of Address form
is located on the website under the Counseling Office.
This form and proof of residency must be submitted as
soon as possible. Proof of residency consists of a signed
lease, deed, settlement papers, mortgage statement or
deed of trust and a current utility bill.
Updates to Phone/Email Contacts
Please submit the update request online through
ParentVue. Once the request has been submitted, school staff will review it before updating the record.
Bell Schedule
Regular, Advisory Day, 1-Hour and 2-Hour
Delay bell schedules are listed on a full page towards the
end of this newsletter. Please refer to this should LCPS
adjust the school day due to weather.
Food Deliveries to School
Students may not order restaurant delivery. If
parents deliver lunch, please avoid drinks in paper cups.
The risk of a spill in the front office is too great!
Parking Lot Information Student Drop Off/Pick Up – We ask that you
drop students off and pick them up only in the front
parking lot. Please do not drop students off in the back
of the school as this area is used for athletic buses and
other specific needs.
Extended parking is not permitted in the bus
loop at any time before or after the school day.
According to the Fire Marshall, the Bus Loop is
considered a roadway and parking is not
allowed. Exemptions are buses and emergency vehicles.
Visitors should park in designated visitor spaces
only. Student spaces belong to students who have paid
for those spaces.
Please do not park in the surrounding
neighborhoods. Towing is a very possible consequence.
Parking Permits Applications may be turned in to the office.
All applications must have complete car
information, parent signature, and payment via cash or
check at the time of submission. Online payments must
also have an application turned in to the front office. The
fee for a parking permit is $200.00 for the school year or
$100.00 per semester. Parking fees are not prorated. A
few daily passes are available for a small fee per day.
Specific parking spaces are not assigned.
Parking is on a first come/first served basis within the
student lot each day. This worked very well last year as
it eliminated issues when students park in incorrect
spaces, or when snow buries some spaces for days.
Parking is a privilege and students must remain
in good standing to remain eligible to park at school.
Notes from the Bookkeeper A $10 fee is assessed for returned checks.

OBTAINING HOMEWORK DUE TO ABSENCES:
Call the Counseling Office at (571) 252-2214 by noon on

end of the third school day.
STUDENT WITHDRAWAL PROCEDURES: The
parent/guardian MUST notify the Counseling Office and
obtain a “Withdrawal/Transfer Form” from counseling at
least three days in advance of the planned departure.
Parent/guardian is required to complete and sign the form
and return it to Counseling. The signed form will be given
to the student during their last two days of school. The
student will walk the form to classes obtaining teacher
signatures, withdrawal grades, and returning textbooks and
library books. Lockers MUST be cleaned out and PE locks
returned to the PE teacher. Before leaving on the last day,
the student will bring the completed form to Counseling.
MILITARY INFORMATION: Representatives visit the
College and Career Center monthly to talk with students
about military careers and educational choices.
FAMILY CONNECTION: This Naviance web service is
designed for students and parents. It is used to help make
decisions about courses, colleges and careers. Family
Connection is linked with the Counseling Office and is used
to track and analyze data about college and career plans.
SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID: The
Career Center maintains a list of scholarships
through the website. It should be checked weekly.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
is the government’s form to determine if a student qualifies
for certain grants, federally funded work-study or low
interest loans. ALL families should complete this form on
line as soon as possible. Many merit and Loudoun based
scholarships require this form. The information required is
based on the previous tax year. Students and one
parent/guardian are required to obtain a PIN before their
FAFSA can be completed. Go to www.pin.ed.gov.
COLLEGE VISITS: Representatives visit the College and
Career Center to speak about the admission process and
their programs. Seniors and juniors must sign up on Family
Connection and print the pass for the day of the visit.
TERMS TO KNOW:
Early Action – An option to submit a college application
before the regular deadline. Admission decisions are
returned earlier. Early action is not binding, meaning the
student does not have to enroll.

unexcused days, the students will be required to
submit a doctor’s note for additional absences for

Medication Drop Off Parents, the clinic is a very busy place within our
school. If you need to keep medication in the clinic, or if
you need to speak with the health center regarding your
student’s health care needs during the school day, please
call to make an appointment at 571-252-2215.
Please remember that all medication must be
brought to the clinic by the parent in its original
container. ALL prescribed medications must have the
Authorization for Medication form completed by the
prescribing provider and signed by the parent. For more
information regarding medications, Allergy Action Plans,
Asthma Action Plans and other forms needed, go to the
website LCPS.org, click under the Parents tab, select
Medication at School, scroll down to Health Forms for
Medical Needs.
Medication Pick Up All medications brought to the school clinic
must be picked up no later than the last day of school
according to state guidelines. All medications left after the
last school day will be destroyed. Clinic hours are 8:30-
3:45 to pick up medications. Allow plenty of time to pick
up your student’s medication. The clinic is closed during
the summer break until (tentative) August 20th. The
nurse does not check emails over the summer break.
Planning Ahead for Next Year Please check back after August 19th to make an
appointment with the nurse to drop off next year’s
medications or health care plans. Allow plenty of time to
drop off your student’s medications, as the clinic is a very
busy place. All medications must be accompanied with a
completed Authorization for Medication
Administration form. Please read the LCPS Medication
Policy found under the Medication at School hyper link.
If a student is planning to carry an inhaler or
epinephrine auto-injector, such as, an Epi-pen during the
school day or to school/sports related events, please
remember to either pick up or print out an Asthma Action
Plan or Allergy Action Plan. You may download the
forms from the website LCPS.org, click under the
parents tab, select Medication at School, scroll down to
Health Forms for Medical Needs: to select the form.
The Stone Bridge Times 10
Clinic Information • The clinic’s direct line is (571) 252-2215
• If your student has any significant medical needs, please
notify the nurse even if the school has been notified in
previous school years. If your child has diabetes,
seizures, life-threatening allergies, asthma or uses an
inhaler, you should pick up forms for you and your
physician to complete so the school can understand and
address your student’s needs.
• A parent or guardian must deliver any medication
(prescription or non-prescription) to the school office
or clinic. Students should not transport any
medication to or from school. Parents are responsible
for picking up unused medication. If a student
mistakenly brings medication, he should turn it in to the
clinic immediately.
• The nurse must have written instructions from the
physician in order to administer prescription
medication.
These instructions should include:
• Student’s name.
• Name and purpose of the medication.
• Dosage and time of administration.
• Possible side effects and measures to take if they
should occur.
• End date for administering the medication.
• Parent signature giving permission to administer
medicine and to contact student’s Physician.
• Physician’s signature.
• A copy of the special “Medication Form” that should be
used appears later in this newsletter.
• All prescription medicine must be in the original
pharmacy bottle with the proper label containing the
name of the student, dosage, and instructions for
administration. If you ask, the pharmacy will give you
an extra bottle with the proper amount of medication for
school.
• If the nurse needs to give non-prescription medication, it
must be in original packaging with the name of the
medicine and instructions.
• The nurse must have a note from the parent regarding
when and how much medicine to administer.
• The nurse will only give the amount listed on the
package for your student’s age and weight and for the
recommended length of time, the student should receive
the medicine unless she has doctor’s orders on a
medication form that indicates otherwise.
• The nurse cannot administer medicine that is not in its
original container.
• Students who have fevers should be kept at home until
free of fever for 24 hours.
• All 10th graders and students new to Loudoun County
Public Schools will be screened for vision and hearing
during the first two months of school. Parents will be
notified of any concerns.
Be sure to keep the “Emergency Information” up-to-date
so that we can reach you if your student is ill or injured.
Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is the only medication
supplied by the school. The nurse must have written parental
permission in order to administer this medication. Please be
sure that the Tylenol permission information on the
emergency card is complete and that your signature is on the
form. Because Acetaminophen, in large amounts, over a
period of time, can cause liver damage, the nurse will give
only 4 doses in a 4 week period. Before a fifth dose is given,
the parent will be contacted.
STUDENTS MAY
