BEAR FOUND GUILTY OF NECKLACE HEIST

A BEAR WAS FOUND GUILTY IN COURT YESTERDAY OF STEALING A PRICELESS NECKLACE.

The case, which has captured the interest of the whole country, ended yesterday with a guilty verdict from the jury. The judge who heard the case said today that the evidence against the Bear was overwhelming! The case arose when, a precious necklace was stolen from the home of Lady Penelope Smithe. Reporters in Press Office W have been following this case closely and have been investigating many of the claims made by the lawyers. The whole case against the Bear was built around 3 main

pieces of evidence and a description of the robber,

given by Lady Penelope herself. She said she say a very large figure running away from her house, and that the figure was covered in brown fur, had big paws and small round ears.

The Bear sat in the dock yesterday as the judge recapped the evidence. Key to the prosecution’s case was the mud, water and grass, found at the scene, which could only have come from the robber!

The judge spoke to the Bear of an incident last year where an unsuspecting family stumbled upon the Bear in his cave and he chased them through mud, water and grass, all of which were near to his home.

The judge went on to say that because this mud, water and grass, had come from the robber, that the robber must have gone through it. He can’t have gone around it, he can’t have gone under it, he must have gone through it! Just as the Bear did when he chased the family last year.

The Bear admitted to taking the necklace, saying “it was just so sparkly!’

The judge sentenced the Bear to 6 months in the Zoo!

Exclusive Interview! In next week’s edition of ‘The Station Reporter’, Press Office speak exclusively with Lady Penelope Smithe about the case, her experience, and we ask her...Can she be friends with the Bear?!

On Tuesday 6th March Her majesty the Queen visited Acorn Press. There was much excitement when the Queen arrived. She was very smart in a blue dress and pink hat. Reporters were delighted to see that under her hat she wore her best crown.

Acorn Reporters showed the Queen the knickers they had designed for her Jubilee Celebrations. She was delighted with them and tried them on immediately. “These knickers are splendid and so comfy, I will enjoy wearing them on my special day” the queen told reporters.

She was then given the Diamond Jubilee cloak that the reporters had made for her. The Queen loved all the different fabrics that were used and thought the diamond design was perfect for

a royal occasion. She has asked Acorn Press to keep them safe for her until her special day.

Her majesty was so impressed with her clothes she has asked the reporters to help her again. Details will be reported in the next edition of Station reporter. Before leaving the Queen enjoyed tea and biscuits in Windsor Castle.

Knickers for the QueenThese were chosen because of the sparkly glitter, the number 60, the flag and it has Queen written on it - so only the Queen can wear them!

The Queen enjoys a cup of tea in Windsor Castle.

Everyone loved the colours and the the precious stones and hearts.

In last weeks edition It was reported that Acorn Press were designing knickers for the Queen’s Jubilee. The reporters were delighted to work on their ideas with the help of family and friends and came up with some amazing designs. Two designs were

chosen as the most interesting and appropriate and these were transferred onto a real pair of knickers. The knickers do appear to be rather large but the reporters thought they would be comfortable for a long day meeting lots of people. The Reporters

carefully replicate the pattern from the card knickers to the very large pair for the Queen.

They used different fabrics of different textures and added hearts and precious stones to finish. This design became the back of the knickers.

First...get milk, butter, chocolate and an egg.

Next...get 4 bowls and a microwave.

Then...place each ingredient in a separate bowl.

After that...put each bowl into the microwave for about 30 seconds.

Finally...look at each ingredient to see if it has changed. For example, is it a solid or a liquid and has it changed?

What happened to Ed Egg?One day Edward Egg went to the

kitchen. It was a Winter’s day. “I’m going to go in the microwave to warm up.” So he cracked himself open and climbed into the microwave. “Ahhhh!” Millie Milk heard the screams and jumped out of the fridge. “What’s the matter Edward?” “I’m solid!” said Edward Egg. “Oh well, I think I might go in the microwave myself,” said Millie Milk. “Noooooo, don't do it!” replied Edward. Millie decided to anyway. After she had been in the microwave for about a minute, she jumped out. “I’m perfect,” said Millie with a smile upon her face. “How are you still a liquid?” asked Edward. “Because i’m milk.” Then along came Charlie Chocolate. “Oh, it’s freezing

in that fridge, i’m going in that microwave to warm myself up.” When the microwave pinged, out poured Charlie looking very miserable. “I’m a liquid.” Then all of a

sudden Billy Butter came out of the fridge. “I’m cold, I think i’ll go in the microwave to warm me up.” When he came out, he yelled, “i’m a liquid!” All of the bowls sat on the bench, all quite miserable except Millie Milk. just then, their mum came along. “Why are you all so miserable?” “Well i’m a liquid,” said Charlie, “and i’m a liquid,” said Billy looking all confused, “and i’m a solid,” said Edward. “Well i’m rather

happy, as i’ve stayed as a liquid,” said Millie Milk, looking rather pleased. And that was the story of the mysterious foods.

Jiggly, Jiggly Jelly...but which is best?Sometimes you just

need some wibbly,

wobby jelly in your tummy! Reporters in

Press Office chose kinds of raspberry

jellies to taste test for you. The first they

made was Hartley’s jelly tablet. This jelly

is already a bit squishy. It was stirred into

hot water. It had to be stirred for a long

time and put in the microwave before the

jelly cubes dissolved. It was then put into

a mould and put in the fridge. The

second jelly they made was Adsa’s

sugar free powdered jelly. To make this

jelly it was carefully stirred into boiling

water until it

dissolved. This

jelly was much

easier to make

because the

powder was

easy to mix into

the hot water.

The reporters

had to be very

careful with the

hot water. When the jellies were set the

reporters tasted them both.

‘I liked the second one because it

tasted and smelled nicer’ Savannah.

‘The first one was best

because the colour was

better’ Dylan.

‘The second jelly smelled

nicer.’ Josie.

‘The first one wibbled and

wobbled better.’ Kelsie.

‘The first one had a stronger

taste.’ Lucas

Our reporters voted for their

favourite and the result are:

What is the story? It's about a family who go on a bear hunt. They have to go through lots of different things to get there. They had to go through thick oozy mud, which went 'squelch, squerch'! They also went through deep cold water,

which went 'splash, splosh'! They also has to go through long wavy grass which went 'swishy swashy'! Finally they found the bear, and the bear chased them all the way home. What we liked ‘I liked it at end when they jumped into bed under the covers’ - Sam. ‘It was good when they went through the river.’ - Lucas. ‘I like this book because you get to do actions.’ - Steven. What we didn’t like ‘I didn't like it when the bear chased the people.’ -Sydney. ‘I didn’t like the bit when the dog saw the bear and got scared.’ - Ethan.Who would like it? ‘You would like this book if you are little.’- Dylan‘You would like this book if you like adventures.’ - Marley

By Rosie BesfordWhen I first started Cubs I was eight years old. I found out that the leader was called Arkala - but her real name was Kelly. When I first started we played lots of games. Then, when I had been going for a while we got to do some work for badges. I have the Bedlington Station Badge and a Prayer badge. If you are a Cub you have to wear a special neckerchief with a woggle. I really enjoy Cubs because it is lots of fun. You get to play lots of games like the key game and the clock game. You get to make things too.

By Caityln ArcherI go to Brownies. It’s lots of fun because you can get different badges. You’re put in groups and the groups are called Sixes. The groups in my Brownie Pack are called the Hedgehogs, Rabbits, Squirrels and Badgers (they are all named after animals). I am in the Hedgehogs. Each group has a leaders called a Sixer. I am a second Sixer. If you are under seven years old you can go to Rainbows. You get to join the Brownies when you are seven. I have been going for two years.

All I could hear was Alfie squawking. My best friend Rosie had gone on holiday to Corfu and left her talking parrot with me. I wish she hadn’t though, because he drives me mad! I really don’t like Alfie because he sings the Dr Who t h e m e t u n e s o loudly nobody in the house can get any sleep! He flaps his wings and bites the bars. Also he is blue and I HATE the colour blue. One lovely morning I was cleaning out his cage. I had left the window open as it was a boiling hot day. I went to go and get his food when all of a sudden he zoomed past me. In a flash he was out of the window and had disappeared into the distance! I felt so awful and guilty. What should I do? Should I try and buy a new parrot and pretend it was

Alfie,, or should I own up and tell Rosie what had happened?I was sick with worry and was dreading Rosie coming home. That night I cried buckets. The next day I hurried to the pet shop to find out if there were any

blue parrots for sale. There was one left but he had a streak o f b r i g h t r e d feathers down his back. That would be no good! I was going to have to own up.I heard a rev of an engine and saw the taxi pull up. Rosie was back. “I’m so s o r r y Ro s i e , ” I exclaimed. “I’ve got

some really bad news about Alfie.....”Just as I was about to reveal what I’d done I heard a distant noise. It was the Dr Who theme tune! I felt a flapping of wings and saw a shimmer of blue. Alfie was back! He had come home all on his own. I had never been so pleased to see a parrot! I gave Alfie some extra parrot treats that night and happily listened to the Dr Who theme tune all evening!

My perfect day would be to go to the beach with my best friend Logan. We would get our buckets and spades and we will get our trunks on. Then off we go, and when we arrive we build a trough then build loads of sand castles. Before we go in the sea we need to put sun screen on.

Then when we come out of the sea we get dry. Once we have done that we need to go into the shower and rinse the sand off us. We then get dressed and go home.

When we get home home we go to the park.

Focus on: Whales

Whales come in different species some of which are at risk. Please do not let these magnificent creatures become extinct.

Key Facts about Whales

Like humans, whales are mammals and live around the oceans of Antarctica. Some species can be huge and can be as big as 25 elephants. They breathe air as we do therefore they need to reach the surface of the ocean because they cannot breathe underwater. Whales can however be difficult to find in the oceans surrounding Antarctica.

Killer whales which are often spotted around Antarctica live in groups called pods. They talk to each other by singing.

Mink whales are baleen whales like humpback and blue whales. The term baleen refers to the comb like structures which from the roof of their mouths.

The Risks Facing WhalesWhaling is the hunting and killing of whales. Hunters use whales. Only a few countries now do it and the rest of the world do not agree with it.

Boats and human disturbances also cause whales problems.

Although there has been complete protection of blue whales for 40 years, it is thought there are very few blue whales left in the southern ocean.

Penguin Fact FilePenguins are interesting animals that can swim fast and are very good at diving. They are good swimmers but they can’t breathe under water. They are black and white.Penguins eat squid, fish and krill. They also eat snow as a source of fresh water.

Focus on: SealsSeals come in different species some of which are at risk. There are six kinds of seal that live in and around Antarctica.

Key Facts about SealsThere are 33 known species of Seal, which have quite a spread in distribution across the world. In Antarctica, the Weddell seal spends the winter mainly underwater as it is warmer than the harsh winters that appear on land.

Seals have lots of fat called blubber to keep them warm. They can swim up to 30 miles an hour using their tail and flippers.

The Risks Facing Seals

Sealing is when hunters kill seals for the oil in their skin, as well as for their bones and fur. It is still being seen in six countries around the world.

Fishing nets are also a problem for seals. Fishing boats often get seals caught in their nets by mistake.

For more than 40 years the International Fund for Animal Welfare has been investigating the cruelty of commercial seal hunting and campaigned to end it.

Focus on: Antarctic This week Press office 3 focus on Wildlife issues and Press Office 4 report on the difficulties facing reporters in Antarctica.

R e p o r t e r s i n A n t a r c t i c a g e t f r o s t b i t eFingers at Risk! By Press Office 4

Editor in Chief Olive Stein sent an urgent message to reporters in Press Office Four earlier this week. She explained that a team of roving reporters in Antarctica could not write articles because their hands were too cold!

Reporters in Press Office Four responded immediately by agreeing to design and make mittens for the reporters. These designs will be copied and put into production to send to Antarctica.

Press Office Four reporters started by examining a range of different types of gloves and mitts to determine what kind of properties a mitt for Antarctica would need. Reporters decided it should be waterproof on the outside to protect from wet snow and warn on the inside.

After making paper patterns the reporters set about cutting out the pieces ready to be sewn together. The finished mitts will be revealed in the next couple of weeks. Keep buying the Station Reporter to see the finished designs!
