The Speed & Nature of light
What is light? Light is a form of electromagnetic radiation. Light is made up of waves of tiny bundles of
energy call photons
A photon is the carrier of electromagnetic radiation of all wavelengths
A photon is a bundle of electromagnetic energy.
It is a weightlessParticle that acts like A wave.
A photon is a bundle of electromagnetic energy. Waves of light create rays and bundles of rays make beams.
Electromagnetic radiation waves come in many forms.
Radio waves
Microwaves
Infrared wavesVisible light radiation(This what we call Light)
Ultra-violetradiation
X-rays
All of types of electromagnetic radiation share one similarity between them:
They all travel at the same speed of light 186,000 miles/seconds (in vacuum)
Or
300,000 kilometers/seconds (in vacuum)(in vacuum) through air and space.
When light slows down or changes direction
we see refraction of light
Examples of refraction:
The speed of light depends on what it is traveling through.
In water, light slows down to about 200,000 km/seconds
Refraction through water
Examples of refraction:
Following are examples of artists M.C. Escher and Salvador Dali who were inspired by and included Refraction and Reflection in their art
