The polls are out everyone, the presidential victor is Governor Mitt Romney and Congressman Paul Ryan. The victory was rather plump in matter, with Romney coming out on top with a 61% vote over the 39% vote to President Obama. Will this lead to a victory for Governor Mitt Romney? Some of us may be eagerly anticipating the final installment of the Twilight series, curled up with our books, Edward Cullen

blankets, and Jacob Black Barbies. Trust me, I’ve been there. However, others may be wondering if Twilight is still relevant (Yes, it is). It’s not exactly

breaking news that Breaking Dawn Part 2 comes out on November 16. Just to add to the excitement of teens everywhere (particularly, freshmen), here’s my take on the trailer. It opens with dramatic music and a bird’s eye view of mountains… Which leads me to think this is

recycled footage. We then see Bella, with her red eyes, hunting in the woods. Although I’ve never seen a vampire pouncing on a mountain lion, I’m pretty sure WCS V-Mag’s special effects beat these. Edward then states, “We’re the same temperature now.” Well duh… She’s a vampire. She’s dead too (Sorry, spoiler alert). We then come to the main problem in this movie: The Volturi think that Renesmee (Edward and Bella’s vampire baby) was bitten and made into a vampire. This, obviously,

breaks vampire code. The Volturi fly off the handle and decide to bring pain and justice to the Cullen family. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to understand a vampire baby who goes through stages of childhood faster than Taylor Lautner becomes shirtless (which happens a lot). Dakota Fanning, being all intimidating and freaky, could be one redeeming factor of this

movie. I mean, who doesn’t love her? Also, I’m okay with the fact that we’re introduced to about 30 new vampire characters. The trailer ends on a snowy mountain with the Cullen family teaming up with Jacob’s pack of werewolves while running into battle against the Volturi, which basically sounds like the conclusion to

every other Twilight movie. But still, if you find yourself wondering why you’re watching the trailer/going to the midnight premiere/buying the DVD, glance at Taylor Lautner and you’ll understand.

The musical this year is the one and only ‘Cinderella’, a classic and timeless American

story. We have all seen the movie, but not everyone has seen the musical. As usual, this time of year is extremely busy with sports, academics, and of course, extra-curricular activities (wait, this is all year).

With all of this mass-hysteria, the actors and actresses of the musical should be applauded for the work they have done while also sweating bullets about school work and trying to keep a social life. The acting in this show is

terrific along with the singing and dancing. This is the last week of practice for ‘Cinderella’, which means that the time to see the musical is coming a lot faster than anybody thinks. It seems like yesterday auditions were being held

Challenges with my #OOTD

By Wynn HukleDressing for this November is more of a challenge than ever.

When dressing for November, I think of coats, riding boots, scarves and leggings. However, when it’s 77 degrees and sunny, I’m over-killing it with my favorite over the knee boots and heavy layers. How am I supposed to have the perfect #ootd (outfit of the day) if Mother Nature is forcing me to dress out of season?

I actually wore some leather shorts to dinner last week and then realized “It’s late October, I look like a fool.” So, what’s a girl to do when fair weather defies fashion protocol?

1. Dress for cooler mornings and warm afternoons. Bring a light jacket or layer with slouchy sweaters and cardigans because there’s no telling what the temperature inside the building will be like at this point.

2. For shoes, keep wearing your flats, pumps, and booties. Riding boots and heeled booties are in style as well; just make sure you won’t get too hot for those abnormally warm days we keep having.

3. Wear your riding boots with a fall dress or skirt. It keeps you in season, and at a comfortable temperature as well.

4. Scarves, scarves, scarves! Truly one of my favorite accessories. Throw one on top of your outfit and change your entire look. They also have some functionality as an accessory as well. (I know, right?)

5. Mix seasonal textures with summery cuts. For example, shorter fall plaid skirts or (my personal favorite) leather t-shirts. You’ll still look chic and fashionable because you have a fall fabric or texture but a cut that is more forgiving with the warm weather.

6. Save the Snuggie for home, otherwise… you might look like you don’t have one…

iStudyBy Julia Camp Although many scientists argue that music has negative side-effects on the ability of students to concentrate while studying, reading, and completing homework, I feel that they neglect to successfully present the positive attributes that music can have on students. In January of 2010, Nick Perham along with colleagues at the Wales Institute in Cardiff, conducted an experiment to study the effect of listening to music while trying to memorize, learn, read and study. While a series of studies in 1990 lead to the conclusion that listening to music, especially classical, yielded positive results, Perham’s study said the opposite. No matter the type of music, volume, familiarity, or repetitiveness of a song, he found that subjects performed worse than they would with a quiet, noiseless environment. I, however, don’t think that these results properly consider all the benefits of listening to music while studying. Listening to music can help make homework more entertaining, and therefore, it is easier to sit down for a longer period of time to complete an assignment properly. Music can also be calming in a way that allows a person to decompress. While doing work maybe be normally considered a stressful activity, music adds a flare that makes homework manageable and less stressful. Overall, I can understand where listening to heavy music with loud, ear shattering beats would impede one’s ability to concentrate; however, I think that in general, listening to slow to medium paced music has a positive outcome on the performance of students. I know that I have a hard time doing my homework and concentrating without music. Therefore, I think that scientific studies fail to examine the possible psychological and emotional benefits of listening to music.

Patrick Phelps..... by Jake Barrett

As some of you may or may not know, Patrick Maloney is going out for swimming this year. The Spartan Voice had a few questions for him about his decision to start swimming after two years off:

Q: Why are you swimming this year?A: Because I feel like it. Q: Are you going to wear the jammer that you wore at the football game?A: Yes, for practice, but for meets I want to wear something a little more;form-fitting *wink. Q: What are you going to swim?A: Undecided.  Q: What's your favorite stroke?A: Freestyle or backstroke. Q: Do you want to swim in college?A: Obviously not. Q: Do you actually like to swim?A: I do. Q: On a scale of 1-10, how excited are you for morning practices?A: About a 1.3. Q: If you could get anyone else out for swimming who would it be?A: Anyone who has a capable body.

Q: If you could swim with any celebrity, who would it be?A: Kate Upton. Q: Any other comments?A: Ladies love swimmers who go out for swimming.

If you want to swim or even are thinking about it, it’s not too late! Talk to Sam Horner, Rhys Powell, or Jake Barrett to get Coach Randy’s contact info. If we can get a few more people out, we will have an amazing shot at the League title, and also as Patrick said, ladies love swimmers. (and Patrick’s going to wear a speedo)

P.S. Ladies, come to swim meets if you want to see a bunch of guys in speedos.

P.S. Guys, you don’t actually have to wear speedos, jammers are okay.

In the early 00’s we saw the

emergence of cargo shorts. Everywhere you looked guys were reppin’ the cargos. Heck even girls were wearing them. As time passed and people became smarter the

cargos faded out of fashion, not like they were ever in, but nevertheless they faded. Then came the era of cargofree days. This period was called the

Golden Age. However, all good things must come to an end, and the reemergence of the cargo has become apparent. The evil that is the cargo short must stop. The only thing that

can stop it is the khaki. So everyone, keep calm..and khaki on.

As a teenager at Wichita Collegiate, many of us are more advanced in our ideologies then our neighboring peers. Due to our advanced knowledge, whether or not you supported our president, you gained from this election. This election was a great experience for all because, it put us years ahead of our peers and will hopefully start to build a generation of politically knowledgeable voters. I encourage all of you today, whether today is a day for joy or grieving, to consider what this election means for the United States as a whole. There is still a deficit and there are still serious economic problems, but this election should encourage a movement of hope and change. Barack Obama’s reelection means that women’s civil rights will be protected. Barack Obama’s reelection means that there is hope that one day two people, who love each other, no matter their sexual orientation, will be able to get married. Barack Obama’s reelection means that everyone’s voice will be heard.  The reelection of Barack Obama most importantly demonstrates America’s call for real life solutions.By Bell Schwartz.

Obama Wins!By Daniel Hullings

America has spoken! The people of the United States have decided that we want four more years of Barack Obama. His efforts to restore the economy in the last four years have given the American people faith. We can only hope, that with four more years, Obama can actually accomplish what he planned. Even if you don’t like the outcome of the election you have to appreciate how awesome it is that the greatest country in the

world gets to choose its leader, and the former leader has, without pause, handed over power very peacefully. This is the 57th time that we, as Americans, have chosen our leader. Good luck to President Obama in his next four years!
