This seemed like divine intervenon because I was in Port St. Joe days aſter Hurricane Michael. I witnessed firsthand the devastaon of that town as I helped my cousin clean out her home that had flooded. I had vowed to go back and help again in some way. That way was with 8 youth and 3 adults from our church. Port St. Joe was flooded from the storm surge of Hurricane Michael. Churches right across from the bay took on 8 – 9 feet of water, and those farther away took on less. We had the opportunity to help Long Avenue Bapst Church in their rebuilding effort. This church is farther from the bay, so though it flooded, and there is much to be done, it did not suffer structural damage. Romans 12:11 says Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. The youth of our church are amazing! Each of our youth jumped in and worked with their whole heart every day. We worked on the first floor of the fellowship/ meeng building. We took down metal railings that held the drop-down ceiling, spack- led and pasted holes, sanded, and painted the enre downstairs of a building (except for the kitchen). We also cleaned up a lot of debris in each of the rooms and other areas of the church. A break would be announced, and our youth would look at me and say, Do we have to stop?”. Yes, but you can be quick with it! Many of our group were also involved in other projects—including tarping a roof (adults), working at the Methodist Churchs Clothes Closet, using a sledgehammer to break up le and helping prepare lunch or other meals. Another group from SSUMC built a closet in a bathroom and completed the sheetrock there. The youth of our church were the hands and feet of Jesus as they worked on Long Avenue Bapst. When we wrapped up our work on Thursday, there was definitely a sense of sasfacon for a job well done. Our youth have a joy and fervor for serving and helping others and I would go with them anyme on another mission trip because they were wonderful! Jesus calls all his followers to show his love by serving others. We dont perform good works to get to heaven--- we all know it is by grace that we are saved (Ephesians 2:8- 9). But because we are saved, we should want to serve and do good for others. I would encourage all youth and anyone who hasnt parcipated in a mission trip to consider working in an area in the US that has suffered great loss. We all came away thankful, blessed and filled with Jesuslove from our helping others. Debbie Kohler The congregaon is invited to the Long Range Planning meeng on Saturday, August 17 from 8:30-11:30am in the Thorpe Bldg.

Youth Mission Trip Report When I accepted the job as Interim Youth Coordinator, I was overjoyed to find out that the youth summer mission trip had been changed to Port St. Joe, FL. This seemed like divine intervention because I was in Port St. Joe days after Hurricane Michael. I witnessed firsthand the devastation of that town as I helped my cousin clean out her home that had flooded. I had vowed to go back and help again in some way. Port St. Joe was flooded from the storm surge of Hurricane Michael. Churches right across from the bay took on 8 – 9 feet of water, and those farther away took on less. We had the opportunity to help Long Avenue Baptist Church in their rebuilding effort. This church is farther from the bay, so though it flooded, and there is much to be done, it did not suffer structural damage.
