AA fter last month’s Wholly Holy Uprising, we come to the Soul’s Call. In the hero’s journey mythologies, the hero eventually has a dark night of the soul experience. With the topics of

the first two weeks being “Pushed by Pain” and “Lean into the Discomfort” we are being called to face the places of darkness that live within us all. But face them, not wallow in them or be overwhelmed by them. Ernest Holmes reminded us that we do not deny the existence of a condition we’re facing, we deny that it has to continue to exist. When we can look face-to-face with the places of pain, we gain mastery of them. When we see them with both clarity and kind attention, they can no longer hold sway over us.

The second half of the month is about a greater expression of love and freedom. So don’t fear the dark, you are the light. Just as we celebrate the longest day of the month in June, moving from the darkness of winter, we bring our own, ever growing light into the world. Once we face the dragons, we no longer fear them. ~Rev. David

easy to read. But their value can be assimilated only by going beyond the mere words themselves and grasping the full impact of the meaning behind them. If it is time for you to move on to something better in life, you can find the ways and means on these pages.

Awakening Prayer is a repeated mantra. With repetition it reveals a spiritual universe of both power and beauty. James O’Dea is the former president of the Institute of Noetic Sciences and a member of the Evolutionary Leaders Group. The book not only includes the prayer itself but a section on the power of prayer as well as expanded contemplative line-by-line reflections and explanations.

II nterfaith Works is a local organization comprised of churches and spiritual communities in the Olympia area. It has been supported by donations from

CSL for quite a few years. Kathy Gilliam and Carol Kautzmann are representatives on the program council. They wanted to share some of the ways in which IFW is offering ongoing support to the homeless members of our community. Through grants and donations they are in the process of constructing a multi-story building at 2828 Martin Way. It will be a homeless shelter on the ground floor and provide 68 individual apartments on the three upper levels. In the next newsletter you will see ways in which CSL and individuals can help to complete this project in creative, much needed ways. Interfaith Works also joined in supporting a national movement called Faith in Harm Reduction. This involved creating altars in local shelter locations as a place for reflection, a place to lay down what is being carried and as a sign of dignity. It also served as a symbol of dignity from the Program Council toward shelter guests. Kathy and I created an altar (below) on behalf of CSL in the shelter in the First Methodist Church. It was in place for a week. ~ Carol Kautzmann

The Law of Mind does not say I am big—I am right.

It just says I AM—and it automatically says yes.

In every situation that feels difficult or

challenging, we choose to magnify the joy and

love that is our inherent birthright.

Youth create beautiful art from scribbles after

watching an animated short film about a mother

who learns to accept the beauty around her,

allowing her to let go of her grief.

“Right here is where our faith in the Power

greater than we are must be brought into play.

For we as individuals are rooted in this Power.”

LSOM, p. 227

Our Invisible forces never leave us; however, we

sometimes forget they exist. Or we limit the full

potential and power of those Invisible Forces.

Youth explore their invisible Chakra forces and

practice a fear-to-faith exercise finding the

opposite truth to whatever fear we are imagining.

Love is the currency which comes in many

different forms, like kindness, friendship,

honesty, caring and generosity. When we

recycle or pick up trash left behind, water

plants, feed animals, help friends,

practice peace, stand in faith and bring

our joy, we are making deposits into our

spiritual bank account.

Youth perform anonymous acts of

kindness and leave behind a pay-it-

forward card to encourage the receiver to

do the same by paying it forward in turn.

We celebrate our fathers and honor the

divine masculine in all life.

Do you have someone in your life who is

joyful all the time? They always lighten

the mood or put a smile on your face.

These people live from their spiritual

truth, from the joy, the love and the light

of creation at the heart of their very being

which gives them freedom. This joy, love

and light is in the heart of every being.

Youth learn how chakras radiate energy

and how to balance their energy to

naturally express their full spirit to the

world.

SS even individuals from our CSLO Community are forming the Libby Road Partnership, LLC to facilitate purchasing the property on Libby Road.

This property feels compatible with our Center’s visioning process and the New Home Team’s outlines and wish list. As you may know, it was developed by all of us over several years. The investors are long-time, deeply involved members of our center and it will be our highest intention to consider CSLO in our decisions regarding the property. Please know that each of the investors holds this community in the highest regard and deepest love. A significant remodel would be required before the property can be offered to the church for lease. Libby Road Partnership is in the process of forming the LLC while reviewing inspections and assessing costs. If the CSLO community determines the remodeled property is a place that allows

our community to thrive and grow, Libby Road Partners, LLC, would serve as landlords and CSLO would be the single, beloved

tenant until the church purchases the property or decides to move to a different location. Let us celebrate that our community has completed STEP ONE. For years we have imagined our home into being. Together we have prayed, visioned, focused, grown and refined our dreams. Here is a demonstration of our diligence and prayers. Libby Road Partners humbly ask for your prayers and support for STEP TWO. STEP TWO is the completion of the property purchase and all renovations. This will allow the completed building to be leased by CSLO in time to celebrate the winter holidays in our new home. Libby Road Partners absolutely trust in the power of our community to hold and bless this dream of a physical home for the Center for Spiritual Living, Olympia. Please join us in knowing, that one way or another, our Beloved CSLO Community is going to love each other home.

June hasJune has arrived and with it I encounter another birthday of introspection. It is time for the yearly cycle of considering where I began, what I have experienced, and where I am going. Examining one’s life at any point along the journey can turn an innocent quick peek into a plunge down the proverbial rabbit hole. It is made more challenging for what we see is not necessarily true. Also partly because recalling memories is a process of reconstruction. The mind groups similar experiences together which helps in choosing the appropriate learned behavior. When faced with a familiar situation we can react automatically. This is the process for learning which is beneficial but may also create blind spots. There can be areas of our memory we choose not to acknowledge or simply rewrite what we believe the experience to be. This can be especially true in the case of emotionally charged situations as acute stress enhances memory. It is as if the brain copies a record of the negative emotional experience in bold type. No matter how we may avoid them, the pain they carry still exists. “The eye sees only what the mind is prepared to comprehend.”

- Henri Bergson

Science of Mind teaches that thoughts become things. The willingness to examine painful or difficult areas of our life can reveal important information that can help to free us from unhealthy beliefs or thought patterns. I can practice compassion for myself knowing that I may not have been ready or able to face some challenges as they occurred. I give myself permission to step into the discomfort with love and acceptance remembering that God is with me every step of the way.

I gratefully enjoy new experiences of peace and contentment as I challenge and release old negative beliefs and patterns. My new thoughts create a positive and welcoming environment which supports and celebrates the freedom of my authentic self.

Who is Henry Bergson? A French philosopher and writer (1859-1941) he was the first to elaborate what came to be called a process philosophy which

rejected static values in favor of values of motion, change and evolution. His influence among philosophers has been greatest in France, but it has also been felt in the United States and Great Britain, especially in the work of William James; George Santayana; and Alfred North Whitehead, the other great process metaphysicians of the 20th century. Bergson won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1927. ~ Susan Einhorn, RScP

Guess who?Guess who? This CSL member received her degree and teaching credentials at San Francisco State in the 1960’s—the hippie era—living in the Haight Ashbury District. She and her boyfriend at the time flew to England and then traveled overland culminating in a flight to Australia. They had a year and a half there which included scary times and adventures. We will each have to engage with our own Jean Hill- Miller to hear more of these tales. Jean continued to travel and enjoyed experiencing many cultures and customs around the world. “This certainly enhanced my understanding that we are all one,” Jean explains. She has been able to instill this knowingness in others via her working career as an elementary teacher in Australia, England, and here in the U.S. She has also been a business owner, a life coach, an early childhood specialist, a trainer and coach, a college instructor and a parent involvement specialist. “Most importantly, I was a working mom of three wonderful, very busy children,” Jean says proudly. With retirement from her varied careers, Jean has been able to enjoy reading, family time, playing cards with her granddaughter and attending all of her grandchildren’s sporting events. Her daughter and son and their families live in the area while her youngest daughter resides in Sweden. She has

also rekindled her interest in painting. Jean’s husband, Bob, introduced her to Science of Mind after they met on E-Harmony in 2004. The two were married by a CSL minister in 2007 while living in Sacramento. The couple moved to Olympia where she worked for Child Care Action Council as a trainer and coach for childcare teachers.

Retirement for the third time occurred in 2018. Upon looking back on her busy life she reminisces, “I do miss the camaraderie of working and the pleasure of knowing I have made a difference in the lives of children, families and teachers.” Both Bob and Jean have taken Foundations. Jean has also taken many other classes and facilitated Sacred Circles. She has served on the Core Council for three years, chaired the Prosperity Committee and was a greeter before CSL began zooming.

“The spiritual principles just seemed common sense and in alignment with what I had believed before I even knew about Science of Mind,” she explained. Jean is so proud that even through this last year, CSL has remained a strong and healthy community. She sends special kudos to Rev. David, Brent, Amy, and the practitioners for their flexibility and to Shani for their expertise with Zoom.

She crouched upon the thin divide Warily glancing from side to side Life as she knew it was on her left On the right seethed Insanity’s murky depths.

Deep and secretive like a gossamer veil She longed to slide mindlessly into the swells For Life as she knew it was a sucking leech Draining, imperious, demanding and breeched.

But Life as she knew it was all that she knew So she crouched for years decision past due Then late one night she took the plunge And her soul soaked up joy like an ocean sponge.

For by diving in she discovered What years of crouching hadn’t uncovered That Life was flowing on either side And Insanity was crouching on that thin divide.
