Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning; and you yourselves be like men who wait for their master, when he will return from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately. Blessed are the servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them. And if he should come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.

The sacramental mystery of this verse is extremely deep. The one who stays awake refers to the person who enters into the realm of spiritual consciousness where a meeting with the Master is realized. This is where the slave ceases to be a slave and becomes a partner in love and a partner in glory. This is where those who are loved sit at the table of the One Who loves.

This is where He shares with us His joy and His glory. The Christ fulfills this when He wills and chooses, and it is His pleasure to complete this in a sacramental mystery with those who stay awake, those whom the world has rejected and repudiated. He comes to them and wipes away the tears from their eyes and lets them taste His love in order that they might forget their suffering.
