O God, who by the fruitful virginity of Blessed Mary hast bestowed upon mankind the reward of eternal salvation: grant, we beseech thee, that we may know the help of her intercession, through whom we have been accounted worthy to receive the Author of our life, Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord; who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. The Epistle: Galatians 4:4–7 Brethren, when the time had fully come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So through God you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son then an heir. V. The Word of the Lord. R. Thanks be to God.

may my lullaby glorify, magnify the King of Kings. Lullaby, lullaby, lullaby.

The Holy Gospel: St. Luke 2:16–21 V. The Lord be with you. R. And with thy spirit.

V. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint Luke. R. Glory be to thee, O Lord.

At that time, the shepherds went with haste to Bethlehem, and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. And when they saw it they made known the saying which had been told them concerning this child; and all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. But Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was con-ceived in the womb. V. The Gospel of the Lord. R. Praise be to thee, O Christ.

The Last Gospel: St. John 1:1-14 V. The Lord be with you. R. And with thy spirit. V. + The Beginning of the Holy Gospel according to Saint John. R. Glory be to thee, O Lord.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that light, but was sent to bear witness of that light. That was the true light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his Name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. [Genuflect] And the Word was made flesh, [Rise] and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. R. Thanks be to God.
