2 The idea behind ECCC To achieve the EU 20-20-20 targets a
great number of individuals must get involved. We have created a
sports-like online competition to encourage individual households
to participate in energy saving. The aim is to show that it is
possible to reach the targets in everyday life by a large number of
European Citizens.

Results Lessons learnt: Online tools and social media are effective
means to involve an important number of European citizens (website,
social media and the energy monitoring tool ESA) The European and
the sports aspect gave an important added value to the competition
Monitoring tools like ESA show the impact of the campaign in
real-time and help householders to save energy by direct feedback
ESA data stock provides an interesting sample of real data from
European householders

Results Experiences and challenges: Use of the on-line tool Energy
Saving Account needed more effort and assistance (online tutorials
and workshops) To achieve sufficient data entries deep involvement
via individualized mails and incentives to account holders is
needed National campaigns have to anchor in regional activities and
networking Prizes and incentives for participants are essential to
motivate for registering and using the ESA and for energy
saving
