It has been the job of MGLC from the outset to perform a number of activities that are interrelated and complementary in their nature. It takes care of the extensive collection of prints and artists’ books produced after WWII. The institution’s most recognizable activity is the Biennial of Graphic Arts, which is known as the world’s oldest graphic arts event.

Švicarija operates as a unit of the International Centre of Graphic Arts and was established upon the initiative of the Municipality of Ljubljana in 2017. Originally it was a wooden guest house (1835), while in 1909 Tivoli Hotel was built on the same spot. After WWII, many renowned Slovenian artists set up their studios there. Pursuing the motto community, art and nature, the 2019 year-long programme at Švicarija focuses on the analysis of the state of independent journalism and the issue of the right of the public to information.
