Wednesday, May, 20, Vigil
5:00 PM “Live Streamed”
O God, whose Son today ascended to the heavens as
the Apostles looked on, grant, we pray, that, in

Be a Team Leader
Team and Team Leader are terms that we commonly hear today in every level of our society. In the time of the second exile of Israel in Babylon, Jeremiah was a bold Team Leader of Israel. From his youth Jeremiah was called to become a spoke’s person for the Most High. Jeremiah became God’s prophet. I ask you to imagine in your own minds eye the day our SSJ Gym is re-opened and we are in full swing. The doors are unlocked, the team has arrived and parents are preparing to leave, but, there is no Coach, no Assistant Coach. Are we early or are they late. Whatever. The team gathers and time is passing. Team has a choice. Do we
use our time wisely and work or become lazy and lose our competitive edge? How shall we use our time. John Wooden the nine time National Champion Coach of College Basketball was successful because he told the truth. He drilled and he drilled again: “it isn’t always the most talented team that wins, but the team that works harder”. Dear teenagers, now is the hour when you are called to be a Team Leader. Call the members of your Team, class is out, the GYM is open but there is no coach on site. How will you use your time? In this time of CV-19 now is your hour to advance. Learn a new language, train from the inter-net, learn the guitar, the flute, the violin. Don’t waste this time. Study all of C.S. Lewis, stay up late and study Shakespeare’s Hamlet three or four times, your eyes will be opened. Explore the score from CATS, or the novel the Oxbow Incident. Purchase CAD software and learn how to design a building. How do you spend your time, Team Leader? View, review and study Villanova’s most recent National Title. The last game is filled with Basketball wisdom and talent. When the dust settles and routine reappears, think of the youthful Jeremiah who challenged Israel to growth, change and maturity. Like youthful Jeremiah: Focus. Train. Get up early. Zoom gather. Ask the Holy Spirit am I like Jeremiah, Young, strong and bold, a servant of the Most High?
Fr. Michael J. Gerlach, Pastor
Join us WEDNESDAY, May 20 at 5:00 p.m. for a livestream Mass celebrated by Monsignor Dunleavy for the solemnity of
the Ascension of Our Lord at facebook.com/simonandjude The Ascension is the celebration of Christ ascending into heaven 40 days after His resurrection. During these 40 days Jesus appeared to the disciples and spoke about the kingdom of God and the coming of the Holy Spirit. (This year we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost - May 31). On Ascension Thursday, we remember Jesus being taken up to heaven as the disciples watched Him go and two angels appeared and declared to them that,
just as He ascended, Jesus would return in glory The remembrance of Jesus' resurrection and ascension into heaven is a source of our hope of eternal life in heaven. We look forward to your joining us for Mass. “Go out to all the World” and spread the word.

One of the many ways of keeping everyone safe and continuing to support our Parish is using our electronic giving. This allows you to make donations either on an automatic scheduled basis, weekly or monthly, or one-time, without personal contact. You may make your donations either directly from your bank account or using a credit or debit card. Please visit our online giving page. From our Parish home page go to “Ways to Give” then “Church E-give here”. Let us know if you have any questions on setting up your electronic giving by calling the Rectory office at 610-696-3624. Stay well, be blessed and always, thank you for your support! Thank you for your continued generosity. God Bless You!
Caring For Friends
Formerly known as Aid-for-Friends, their mission is to serve needy, isolated shut-ins, primarily the frail elderly, with free daily home-cooked meals delivered weekly by volunteer visitors to help our homebound “client/friends” maintain their cherished independence. We are inviting everyone to cook an extra portion of your meal—a meat or protein, starch and vegetable. Trays to place the meals in can be found in the closet across from the rest rooms in the church. Fill a tray, cover it with foil, label it and place it in a plastic bag (all provided) and freeze the meal at home. Once the meal is frozen, please bring it to the freezer in the closet where you picked up your tray and a volunteer visitor will take it to a needy shut in. Your kindness will be greatly appreciated.
Are you struggling to pay the bills?
If you know anyone in need of assistance with food, rent or utilities, please don’t hesitate to call our Hope Ministry 610-787-1721. We will be glad to help. All conversations are confidential.
A Note from Sr. Mary Beth … The IHM Community receives assignments for this coming year on Tuesday. In August I will be moving on to be of service at Camilla Hall. My twelve years at SSJ have been a true blessing and I will treasure every person and memory.
God Bless You, Sister Mary Beth Coyle
