FROM THE PASTOR
About the Bulletin: You probably noticed the first weekend in July we had identical bulletins at St. Stan’s and Holy Ghost which followed the pattern of the shared bulletin between Holy Ghost and St. Mary’s. The reason St. Stan’s format abruptly returned to its former smaller format is because we do not have enough advertisers to support the expanded version. I am told that St. Stan’s even in the smaller version lost the company responsible for printing it $2,000. The problem hasn’t been solved yet but we are working on it. If you think you might know of someone who would be interested in becoming one of our advertisers, please contact the office at St. Stan’s and we will pass that along. The situation for the Holy Ghost bulletin is stable at this time.
A Belated Introduction: I have been so overwhelmed by my recent move that I forgot to give an appropriate introduction in the bulletin to my very good friend Fr. Alex Okoro who is visiting during the month of July. Fr. Alex has concelebrated some Masses with me and has been main celebrant too. He is pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in the City
of Emekuku, Nigeria. It was the very first parish founded in that archdiocese in 1912.
He was in-residence with me at St. Mary’s from 2002 to 2004 while studying at Creighton. He also spent time at St. James Parish. So if you see him please give him a warm welcome. His parishioners were so kind to me when I visited his parish last October.
I will be in Sioux Falls visiting my mother on Monday and Tuesday, July 18-19. She is approaching 90 years of age and was recently hospitalized for a week. She has been in rehab for the last couple of weeks and is regaining some strength but has not fully recovered. Fr. Alex will cover the daily Masses on Monday, July 18 at 8 a.m. at St. Stan’s and Tuesday, July 19 at 7 a.m. at Holy Ghost.
Stewardship Reflection: July 17, 2016 The Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time “…I am a minister in accordance with God’s stewardship given to me to bring to completion for you the word of God.” Colossians 1:25 Believe it or not, we are all called to evangelize – to continuously grow in our knowledge and relationship with Jesus and to share it with others. We may not be called to evangelize like St. Paul, but we should look for opportunities to share our Faith with those closest to us, like our family and friends.
Word of Life—Sunday, July 17, 2016 “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part...” — Luke 10:41-42
