The Simple Science of Cleaning
•Water is the simplest cleaning agent but it needs help Imagine trying to wash a greasy plate with just cold water.
• Detergents help water to break down soil and remove dirt and stains.
• They also hold dirt particles in suspension.
• This prevents dirt and soil being re-deposited onto clean surfaces.

What is a pH Scale?
The pH scale ranges from 1 -14 and will measure the degree of alkalinity or acidity in a cleaning product.
•ACID cleaners usually come in the range from 0 - 5•ALKALINE cleaners are usually between 9 -13water, which is NEUTRAL is 7 on the pH scale but many cleaning products are also described as neutral detergents and are used in regular cleaning

What a cleaning Chemical does
Neutral detergents are used in daily routine cleaning.Acid detergents are used to descale surfaces where metal salts
and limescale have built up.Acid cleaners must be used carefully.Alkaline detergents are used as hard surface cleaners,
floor strippers and de-greasing agents.Strong alkaline cleaners may damage wood, marble, chrome and
aluminum surfaces if used incorrectly.AlwaysAlways

Elements Of Cleaning The four basic elements that affect cleaning performance are:
Time Chemicals Temperature Mechanical Action
The proper balance of mechanical action, time, chemicals andtemperature brings about maximum cleaning economy andefficiency
To maintain work quality if one element is changed, ithas to be compensated by another

Control & Usage Of Chemicals
REMEMBER:
Only use the recommended amount of chemical as directed by the chemical supplier.
Do not mix chemicals!
