WesternReserveUniversityandAssociateProvostofPennStateUniversity.Overthepast25years,ProfessorChaithasfocusedongovernanceandleadershipofnonprofitorganizations.Hehasco-authoredthreebooksonthesubjectincluding:Governance as leadership: Reframing the Work of Nonprofit Boards(Wiley,2005),whichhasreceivedthreeawards;Improving the Performance of Governing Boards(OryxPress,1996);andThe Effective Board of Trustees(OryxPress,1991).
ChaitteachesintheHarvardBusinessSchoolprogramonGoverningforNonprofitExcellence,andfourexecutiveeduca-tionprograms,includingtheInstituteforEducationalManage-ment(IEM)andtheSeminarforNewPresidents,attheHarvardGraduateSchoolofEducation.In2004,hewashonoredbythePresidentofHarvardasoneoftheUniversity’s“outstandingteachers.”Dr.ChaitisamemberoftheexecutivecommitteeoftheWheatonCollege(MA)boardoftrustees,andamemberoftheBoardofDirectorsofBoardSource.Heconsultswidelyongovernanceandleadership.

trustee.Overtheyearshehasheldanumberofboardleadershippositions(chairman,treasurerandchairofnumerouscommit-teesandtaskforces)inhospitalsandotherhealthcarerelatedorganizations.Hehashands-onexperiencewithorganizationsthatwereexperiencingrapidgrowth,confrontingfinancialdifficulties,goingthroughaffiliations,changingCEOs,reorga-nizingtheirgovernancestructure,andfacingmanyotherissues.HewasappointedbytheGovernorofNorthCarolinatotheAcuteCareCommitteeoftheStateHealthCoordinatingCouncil(SHCC)in2001.HeservedasaboardmemberoftheNCHospitalAssociation(NCHA)from1996–1999andreceivedNCHA’sTrusteeServiceAwardin1997.HewasawardedNCHA’shighesthonor,theTrusteeMeritAward,in2001.
HeretiredfromWachoviaBankasaseniorofficerfollowing32yearsofservice.HewasaCityPresidentforWachoviafor23yearsandwasBusinessBankingsalesmanagerforwesternNCwhenheretired.HenowservesasExecutiveDirectorofBlueRidgeHealthcareFoundationinMorganton,NC.
