Welcome to Issue 11 of The Sewing Cottage e-zine.

After being surrounded by fresh apricots and makingloads of jam, I decided that this issue would be dedi-cated to some garden fun. The patterns included inthis month’s issue

~ Gathering apron, for all those picking days comingup. Yummy veggies from the garden, fruit from thetrees, or fresh flowers from the neighbors yards.Shhhh.

~ Pigly the plushie, for squeezing and loving in thesummer. Pigly is washable just in case you rollaround in the mud too.

~ 3 sisters reversible bag, for hauling all those funsummer books from the library or sand toys to thebeach or grocery trips.

Each plays their own part in the daily activitiesthat we might find ourselves doing. Enjoy the pat-terns and as always- share what you make! I’d love tosee.

Gathering Apron

Gathering flowers, fruit, and outdoor goodies, couldn’tbe any better when you use your gathering apron.

Still trying to find the perfect one.

I just bought Muraldials -- amazing sharp, heavy scissors. Now I want some with springs.

Ghinger, I have many pairs but use my curved pointy ones the most when I am embroidering on the machine

the ones without the thumb hole, they spring back open.

Fiskars and gingher - I am left-handed and love my leftie scissors - especially my appliqué scissors -the bill is on the correct size for me - I could not use right-handed ones.

I have two favorites, Gingers, and an old pair of embroidery scissors with large holes for my arthritic fingers.

Scissors - not any favorites. I am still using ones my grandmother gave me when I was 12. That wasabout 40 years ago. Please don't ask me what brand they are, probably from Singer maybe?

I have lots of scissors, but love my Ginghers the best. I use them for cutting fabrics when I am not using a rotarycutter.

I just bought a set of titanium and love them.

Ahh, I don't know what they're called. The blades are silver, the handle gold, in the shape of a bird - I got them at a local craftexpo and they're pretty great. I have a pair in my knitting bag and a pair in my sewing bag!

I don't have a favorite pair of scissors.....the pair I use the most is Mundial Softy

Anything and everything can never have too many.

Ginghers, I have the dressmaking shears and I have the small Pewter embroidery shears. LOVE them so much....

depends on what I am trying to do at the moment... I have a HUGE flowerpot filled with about a dozen differentones

My grandmothers old ones. Have no idea who made them. They have been resharpened so many times and stillwork great.

My favorite are my stork ruby-eyed embroidery scissors. I have them with me all the time.

I love Gingher scissors. I have standar 8 1/2" (I think) and embroidery scissors. For cutting paper or tem-plates, I use Fiskar scissors.

I have Westcott scissors, they are heavy duty, and can cut thru several layer of fabric or thick seams like denim,which I sew with a lot.

Also my little snips, I have about 6 pr., one at each of my 5 machines that I use in my shop.

Fiskars without a thumb hole, Gingers and the tiny little snips with no finger holes (they are the best - Ihave several).

WASA - Soligen, Germany (my embroidery scissors) I use them for cutting thread, yarn, embroidery

I like fiscar;s scissors. I have the 3 inch, pointed blade in my sewing kit and on my sewing machine table. Ihave a few pointed embroidery scissors, but I don't really use them. I have a pair of older scissors I use for cut-ting paper or fusible double-sided like Steam a Seam Lite, to cut out for applique

I just use the fairly cheap scissors I bought years ago - don't remember where.

I love them all. Ginghers are my favorites, but I have some Fiskars and Titanium ones.




I have an old pair that I got in high school when I took sewing that I still use that was just resharpened. But I havea new pair of Fiskars that are awesome and are my go to tools.

I am partial to Gingher brand scissors. I am left-handed, but prefered to use right-handed scissors and I still cut with my left hand.

I have a pair of titanium scissors that I absolutely love. If I am working on fus-ible applique my favorite scissors are a pair of ZipZap's which are made in Germany

Mundail shears are my favorite and I use them for fabric cutting only (applique, garments, wool cutouts). I haveGingher shears and pinking shears which I use for garments only.

The best scissors of all time is the Karen Kay Buckley perfect scissors. The handles are large and soft. Theblades are slightly serrated so they grip the fabric as you cut.

I have an old pair that were my mother in laws. Solid steel scissors with a fancy pattern on them. Ilove them.

Little ones that I hang around my neck, larger ones with spring action

I have about 5 pairs of scissors. I like my Fiskars "Razor Edged" ergonomically friendly scissors and use themfor cutting applique pieces, along with my small Fiskars, ergonomically friendly ones. I prefer very sharp pointedscissors so if they are in my hand for cutting and I need to "rip" I can put them to use and not have to changeequipment.

I have an assortment of small scissors because I lust for their cute and handy size. I have a few pair of shearswhose names all escape me. I do know I have a pair of gingher shears that I hide from all but me.

My Gingher shears never touch anything but cotton fabric. I have a great pair of Fiskars pinking shears, againonly on good quality fabric. I have a large pair of Fiskars shears used for cutting fabric only. I use the cheap dol-lar scissors for paper and junk fabric.

I like to have my scissors sharp and something a little different on the handle making them more identifiable at aworkshop

Gingher are nice but seem to go bad easily. I prefer Fiskars and toss them when they go bad.

Fiskars are my favorite scissors! Love the style with the squeezy handles--they stay sharp and I can cut and cutwithout any fatigue to my hands.

I use my scissors when a rotary cutter isn't an option, like in fusible projects or, more recently, inmaking new Christmas stockings.




Small Gingher I got as a gift in Germany. I use them all the time as they are small and sharp but also mean a lot.

I think my favorite pair is a tiny set that came with my embroidery machine. Theyare very easy to slip under stitches to cut.

I love scissors and have MANY. My latest favorites (for the past 2-3 years) are KAI yellow handles. I have themin 4 sizes and they stay very sharp and cut right to the tips.

I don't have the ones I'd like. I just use the stock Fiskars. But I'd REALLY like the Gingher em-broidery scissors. I'm just afraid my kiddos would get 'hold of them and accidentally lose a limb!

I bought some really cool ones from "I Have a Notion": Karen Kay Buckley's Perfect Scissors Large 7 1/2.

I love scissors and will buy a good looking new pair to try in a heartbeat. My current favorite pair is onemade my olfa.

my favorite scissors ,,,, nippers & my applique scissors . I tend to grab them for most every sewing project be-cause they slip comfortably into my hand & can cut tiny threads easily.

My favorite have been my fiskars scissors. They last me a long time and I use them for everything. I alsohave little pairs of embroidery scissors all over my house. Then I always have some handy for when I'mdoing handwork.

I really don't have a favorite yet, both pairs I have are from a dollar store, I have asked for quality scissors forchristmas!

Gingher usually, but have a couple of small Bexfield scissors which have very shart poins.

Serious harm is threatened if anyone uses my green handled dressmaking scissors or small stork scissors. Can'tremember what make these are as had for eons

Fiscars are very sharp to the point... have tried lots and some very expensive ones but am al-ways afraid of loosing them! Stick to the easily replaced ones!

I also use Fiscars shears, the small spring loaded scissors with no finger holes, very good for snipping threads andcutting the channels in chenille.

Have some dress makers scissors and pinking shears also.... all Fiscars.

All of them! Really no specific type as long as the are sharp.

I got a pair scissors I had for 30 years, bought them from Sears and they are won-derful and I only use them at home for certain things and they are my favourite. Igot old pairs I use for paper and another pair I use for everything from cuttingthe wonder under for applique to the fabric.

Large green handled ones made in Japan. Very good quality, used mainly for cutting patterns/fabric.

my long ones (9 1/2 ") for making squares and tiny ones for hand sewing

I actually use my large scissors for everything and have not had dull blades. They are reserved for fabricthe majority of the time but if I need to cut a piece of paper I use them. I also use Fiskars which fit mysmall budget. I do have muliple sizes for multiple tasks. Small ones near my sewing machine to snipthreads adn large ones at the cutting table to cut batting to size.

Snippets- seem to be the handiest when sewing.

I have a pair of Kai shears that cut fabric like butter. They have stayed sharp for 15 years.

I prefer electric scissors for cutting doll patterns and clothes

My favorite is my mother's old zig zag kind, I found a gentleman who sharpens they up for me just they way Ilike them.

Gingher scissors and Kay Buckley's scissors. Used for applique and general fabric cutting

Acme Titanium sm. sissors. I love this one for everything except cutting material, mostly theads & clip-ping. Fiskars softgrip is second. Fiskars Wave I love for puttings edges on craft projects. Regular pair ofSinger sissors for cutting fabric.

I really like the Clover piecing scissors. The have little serrations that sort of grip the fabric as I cut, keeping meon the straight & narrow (normally, I can't cut a straight line with a ruler, so this is a huge plus for me!). I also usesmall, cheap, sharp scissors for small cutting -- like trimming around yo-yos before sewing. I have little scissorsin kits/bags all over the place. I have a great pair of Gingher shears that I don't use much because they're so heavy.

My Ginghers are my "go to" scissors and for small projects I have some tiny little 5"ones as well as the "duck bill" type.

My sister gave me Gingher cutting and applique scissors when I started quilting. Since I do alot of rotary cutting,the only scissors I use alot are the applique scissors to close cut threads.

Most of my scissors are from the local hospital when I worked there. They are small, strong and stay sharp for along time. I keep one in each project bag. I have a variety of generic store bought scissors that I use. I mark themfor fabric, batting, paper, etc.
