These seminars are aimed at assisting Township & Library District residents in understanding and implementing technology into their personal life. Led by Township residents Verner Tepe, Andy Lego, Phillip Schneider and Ed Mungai, the seminars are focused at understanding how to use technology to your advantage. MATTER OF BALANCE 2019 Managing Concerns About Falls

Have you turned down a chance to go out with family or friends because you were concerned about falling? Have you cut down on a favorite activity because you might fall? If so, A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls is a program for you. Fear of falling can be just as dangerous as falling itself. People who develop this fear often limit their activities, which can result in severe physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. Many older adults also experience increased isolation and depression when they limit their interactions with family and friends. A Matter of Balance can help people improve their quality of life and remain independent. A Matter of Balance is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Participants learn to set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and learn simple exercises to Increase strength and balance. A certified Senior Services Associates Staff Member & Senior Volunteer will lead the program: A Matter of Balance:

The program will run every Tuesday & Thursday in July & August 2019 at

Fit and Strong! is an award-winning, evidence-based physical activity/behavior change program developed by the University of Illinois at Chicago, Center for Research on Health Aging (CRHA) proven to benefit arthritis symptoms and promote an active lifestyle. CRHA is partnering with Senior Services Associates , Inc. to offer Fit and Strong! The program includes:

24 sessions of 1 1/2 hour.

Each session consist of 1 hour of exercise, 1/2 hour of arthritis & exercise education/discussion/group problem-solving.

Sessions meet 3 days a week

Sessions are led by trained, certified exercise instructors

Exercises include stretching, low-impact aerobics, walking, and strengthening using exercise bands and ankle cuff weights, at your ability level

Learn about benefits of physical activity, how to manage arthritis, how to exercise safely, how to develop & maintain a more active lifestyle

Have you noticed the Evidence Based Wellness Programs and other new programs now offered in the Elgin Township building, 729 S. McLean? More to follow; a trained Information and Assistance case worker will be available to help you with answers to problems and assistance with accessing the benefits you are entitled to. More information regarding additional services will be available in our next newspaper. For an appointment call Kris or Alicia at 847-741-0404. This service will be available every Tuesday, walk-ins will be helped but preference will be given to those with appointments. Days and times will be expanded determined by need.
