It’s not just Wall Street that’s operated like acriminal mob, folks: It’s the U.S. Congress. It’s the health care industry. It’s conventionalagriculture, the mainstream media, the processed food manufacturers, the government regulatorsand of course the entire military industrial complex.

Nearly everything around you is a criminal operation. The banks openly steal your homes whilelaundering money for global drug lords. The U.S. government runs illegal guns into Mexico whileallowing cocaine and heroin back into the USA to be sold at pumped-up black market prices. Themainstream media broadcasts outright lies and complete fabrications as if they were fact. Much ofmodern medical “science” is complete quackery or fiction, funded by corporations for the purposeof expanding corporate power. The local water supply is intentionally contaminated with toxicpoisons known as “fluoride,” and the local food supply is tainted with other dangerous chemicalslike aspartame, MSG and BPA.

Your local hospital is almost certainly involved in a medical racket that seeks to insert high-profitmedical procedure charges onto patient bills, and your local nursing home most likely throwsgranny in the hospital for a few days in order to get triple billing from Medicare upon their return.Doctors prescribe antibiotics because they get kickbacks from the drug companies, and themedical journals are little more than science whores who have been bought and paid for by thepharmaceutical industry. Beyond the economy alone, the entire “war on terror” is a complete and utter hoax, having beenfabricated from the very start by government insiders. From 9/11 to present-day terror, it has allbeen a pathetic and cowardly string of fabrications and staged events for the sole purpose ofdestroying freedom in America.

Why things are the way they are – the honest truth

Do you wonder why so many people are sick and diseased today? Because the health care systemis designed to make you sick!

Reckless Endangerment: Totally Corrupt America

Last March I reviewed Matt Taibbi’simportant book Griftopia, an entertainingaccount of the through-going financial fraudthat gave us the financial crisis.http://www.vdare.com/print/13156 Taibbishows that the US “superpower” can matchany third world backwater in the magnitudeof greed and fraud that is endemic inbusiness and government. I would not besurprised if Taibbi’s book motivated themore aware participants of Occupy WallStreet.Taibbi’s Griftopia was published lastyear. This year Henry Holt publishers haveprovided us with Gretchen Morgenson andJoshur Rosner’s Reckless Endangerment.

Morgenson and Rosner tell the story again, but with less drama and provocation. Possibly, itmight be more acceptable to those gullible Americans who wrap themselves in the flag and refuseto believe that their country could ever knowingly do anything that is wrong.

I am not suggesting that Morgenson and Rosner pull their punches. To the contrary, the authorsdeliver enough knockouts to be contenders with Taibbi as world champions in exposing thereckless fraud that the US financial sector and its regulators now epitomize.

The financial crisis, which is very much still with us, did not result from accident ormiscalculation; neither did it result because of a flaw in Alan Greenspan’s theory, as he told

Congress when a feeble effort was made to hold himaccountable. It was the intentional result of peoplemotivated by short-term profits who wanted to get theirsand get out.

As Reckless Endangerment shows, fraud characterizedevery stage of the process from the fraudulent borrowerincomes and credit scores that mortgage issuers gave tounqualified buyers, through the securitization of themortgages and their triple-A investment grade ratings bythe rating agencies (Standard & Poor’s especially, butalso Moody’s and Fitch) to the investment banks that

sold what the banks knew was junk toinvestors around the world as investmentgrade securities. Indeed, Goldman Sachswas simultaneously betting against themortgage derivatives that it was selling toclients.

Investment banks, such as Goldman Sachs,which once considered it a matter of honorto represent the interests of customers, tookadvantage of the trust that had been built upin the past to commit fraud againstcustomers in order to advance the banks’short-term profits and the out-sized

multi-million dollar managerial bonuses that these fraudulent profits produced.Morgenson andRosner provide a number of unique accounts of how those benefitting from fraud were able todefeat laws that were passed that would have held them to account. For example, the state ofGeorgia passed perfect legislation that held predatory lending to account. William J. Brennan Jr.and Georgia Governor Roy E. Barnes got the Georgia Fair Lending Act through the statelegislature. It was a model for other states. As the federal regulators had thrown in the towel, thestate laws would have prevent the worst part of the financial crisis, it not prevented the crisisaltogether.

The Georgia law only lasted a few months, because the rating agencies saw that their enormousprofits from issuing fraudulent investment grade ratings were threatened by the law. The corruptrating agencies mischaracterized the consumer protection act as a jihad by regulators. Standard &Poor’s declared that it would no longer allow Georgia mortgages to be placed in mortgagesecurities that it rated.

In other words, Georgia mortgages could no longer be securitized. This announcement bannedGeorgia mortgage lenders from securitization. Thus, the law was overturned, and fraud ran wild.

These kind of mafia strong-armed tactics in order to protect at all costs the short-termmega-bonuses that drove the totally fraudulent system have never been held accountable orpunished. Totally innocent people are held indefinitely and tortured by the US government for noother reason than to convince the gullible public that they are endangered by terrorists, but thosewho wiped out the home ownership and retirement pensions of millions of Americans now holdhigh and honorable positions on corporate boards and USregulatory agencies.

Federal regulatory agencies totally failed. Brooksley Borntried to use her statutory authority to regulateover-the-counter derivatives, but she was blocked by theFederal Reserve chairman, the US Treasure secretary, andthe SEC chairman and forced to resign. As University of

Chicago Nobel economist George Stiglerpredicted, regulatory agencies are captured bythose who are intended to be regulated. Thiswas the case. Regulators turned a blind eye toobvious criminal fraud, and were rewarded withlucrative positions in the financial community.The same for the US senators andrepresentatives who repealed Glass-Steagal andother financial regulations.

For example, former US senator Phil Grammwho spearheaded the repeal of theGlass-Steagall Act, which separated commercialfrom investment banking, the repeal of whichset up the financial crisis, was rewarded bybeing made vice chairman of the mega-bankUBS, a Swiss global financial services company.

What Taibbi, Morgenson and Rosner make clear isthat while monster criminals continue to collect theirmulti-million dollar annual incomes, depressed singlemothers, deserted by the men who fathered theirchild, are sent toprison for havingsmall quantitiesof illegal drugs

to boost their depressed spirits, and their children are put outto adoption.

This is “justice” in America where there is “freedom anddemocracy.”
