It is hard to believe that a year
has gone by. Election of offi-
cers is coming up with nomina-
tions starting in September.
Please consider participating in
your Detachment as an Officer. It is work, but it is rewarding.
I am happy to report that our
website is up and running. If
you havent already, please
check it out at www.mcl414.org.
Marine Grob deserves recogni-
tion for making the website a
reality. Outstanding job Marine
Grob! In addition to our web-
site, the National website is up-
to-date with the latest news
from the National Convention.
Detachment 414 has done it
again! We have been awarded
First Place for our efforts in
VAVS (Veterans Administration
Voluntary Services) at the Vet-
erans Hospital in Ann Arbor.
This award was presented to us
at the National Convention that
just convened in Boise, Idaho. Iwould like to thank all of the
volunteers that give their hours
to the Marine Corps League.
Without your support, we could
not achieve recognition for your
efforts.
Semper Fi,
Norm Jewell
A Message from the Commandant
Senior Vice Commandant NotesWe have three fundraisers left
to go for this season. If you
have not stopped by our booth,
please come by and look
around. Our next fundraiser is
going to be at the Dexter Daze
that takes place Augus 1214.
Our Rifle Raffle is going well.
We have made enough to
cover our expenses thus far,
and everything from now on is
profit. Our merchandise is flying
off our shelves. But, I think the
greatest thing about working at
these fundraisers is the cama-
raderie of the Marines who
show up. I love to tell sea sto-
ries just as much as the next
Marine.
We are really busy this month
with the Heritage Festival tak-
ing place the following weekend
in Ypsilantis famous Depot
Town at Riverside Park on Au-
gust 1921.
The Clinton Fall Festival is our
last fundraiser of the year. This
festival is September 2325 in
Clinton, Michigan.
So, you have three opportuni-
ties to join us this season to
help out. Please stop by any
time to help, or just to shoot-the
-breeze.
Semper Fidelis,
Pete Belaire

It cannot be inherited, nor can it ever be purchased. You and no one alive can buyit for any price. It is impossible to rent and it cannot be lent. You alone and ourown have earned it with your sweat, blood and lives. You own it forever. The title
United States Marine.
Civilians cannot and will not understand us because they are not one of us. The
Corpswe love it, live it, and shall die for it. If you have never been in it, you shall
never understand it.
