When you’re a parent, you always want to have a backup plan for
your baby. That’s why our newborn special care unit staff – specifically
trained in meeting the developmental and medical needs of critically ill
newborns – is always ready for you and your family, if and when you
need us. We welcome you to our center, where we will ensure the best
care for your baby – together.
The Schatzi And Stanley Kassal Project: Newborn Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Support You Can Count OnHoltz Children’s Hospital is home to one of the largest
neonatal intensive care units in the country and is also
a designated regional perinatal intensive care center
by the state of Florida.
Just around the corner from our NICU is The Women’s
Hospital at Jackson Memorial, where both mom and baby
receive specialized, comprehensive care – all at one location.
Whether delivering at Jackson Memorial, or our other
full-service hospitals, neonatal care is never far from
reach, thanks to our 24-hour, neonatal transport team.
Bonding between parents and their new baby is important.
While babies are in the NICU, we offer parents the opportunity
to view their infant from anywhere. NicView ™ is a small camera
system that allows parents to watch their infants in real time.
It does not require any software downloads or plug-ins and
works with all major web browsers. Every baby also gets their
own username and password, which can be shared with family
members all over the world.
Bonding Made Easier
To provide the most positive healing environment for our patients, our NICU is divided
into four units with a total of 126 beds. Each unit is specifically designed and outfitted
with the appropriate equipment for the needs of newborns in different stages.
Special Facilities For Special Circumstances
Our team is here to support NICU families during their
baby’s stay by providing important educational tools for
raising healthy children. In a comfortable, casual setting,
we provide parents the opportunity to receive information
about the developmental needs of their baby. In addition,
we offer our families monthly parenting classes, support
groups, and even infant CPR training.

Guiding Families During Their Holtz Children’s Experience
Feeding your baby breast milk is one of the most
important things you can do to help them get better
quicker and home faster. Research shows that babies
who receive their mother’s milk while in the hospital
have a lower risk of health complications. This makes
the mother one of the most important members
of their baby’s care team.
Our team of board-certified lactation consultants and
highly trained nurses will help your baby transition
to feeding at the breast. We also offer free breastfeeding
support groups and outpatient lactation consultations
after your baby’s discharge.

Lactation Services
We offer donor breast milk to help babies get
the nutrition they need. Over the last century,
advances in refrigeration, storage, and pasteurization
have led to the availability of safe, labeled human
milk to supplement babies’ diets. By partnering
with Mother’s Milk Bank, mothers with extra breast
milk are screened for specific diseases, similar to
blood banking standards. This milk is then donated
to newborns that need it most.
