Aloha, Johnny—God Bless

You!

Parish of Transfiguration Catholic Church,

It is with a heavy heart that I must let all of you know that

I will no longer be the youth minister of this parish. God

has called me to a new direction in my career as youth

minister of St. John Neumann parish.

I want to first say thank you for an incredible opportunity

to be a part of this parish and welcoming my wife and I

with open arms. I have learned a great amount of what it

means to be a Christian from this community in only a

small amount of time. The care that y’all have for one another and this little part of South Carolina is an

example of what the Church should look like. Thank you for the support you have given me as youth

minister of this parish and giving me the ability to hang out and be a part of the lives of the youth. It has

truly been a blessing.

To those who helped/volunteered with any youth related

event I owe y’all an immense amount of gratitude. From

waking up early to staying up late, y’all have been willing

and able to help me reach the kids. Without the volunteers I

would not have been able to do this job. Thank you parents

who also helped out with volunteering to bring food on

Sunday nights. They were delicious and the high school

youth would agree!

I want to now thank the high school and middle school youth

of this parish. I want to thank them for being willing to have

me be their youth minister. I want to thank them for making me feel welcome and part of this youth group.

My one message I want to leave with them is that they are children of God and I hope they never forget that.

I also hope they can also be just as welcoming to the next youth minister too!

I want to thank Fr. Trapp for giving me this opportunity at

this parish to be a witness of God’s plan with the youth of

this parish. Thank you Msgr. LeBlanc for also supporting

me during your transition to the parish. I want to thank

Valerie, parish secretary, for all the help she has been to

me. I want to thank the office volunteers for their

welcoming personalities and their encouragement.

Although I am leaving this parish I know that God has an

incredible plan for this Church and I will always know I

have friends at Transfiguration Catholic Church.

God Bless,

Johnny Sanchez

Meet Our New Youth Minister!

Hello everyone! My name is Mary Beth Vernau and I am both humbled and thrilled to be your new youth minister at Transfiguration! It's going to be a wonderful year ahead and I very much look forward to getting to know each of you as we journey together towards Heaven. :)

So, a little about me: I am a native of Irmo, SC and the oldest of four in a passionately Catholic homeschooling family. Growing up I was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake in Chapin, and participated in all of our diocesan youth events, even serving a year on our Diocesan Youth Evangelization Team (aka The E-Team) my junior year of high school! Youth ministry has always been something that brings me a ton of joy and from the beginning of high school it was something I felt called to full time. After graduation I attended Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio to study Catechetics (religious education) and Theology with a concentration in Youth Ministry. And since receiving my bachelor's degree I've spent my first year of post grad life as a missionary with our very own Diocesan Missionary Team (DMT)! It was through this program that I was able to meet your 9th Grade Confirmation Class back in April when my team led their Confirmation retreat! Little did I know that just a few months later I'd have the honor of working alongside you all full time! God sure has a sense of humor. :)

Outside of ministry, I enjoy so many things - most especially music, traveling, movies, the beach, thrifting and art! You'll usually find me nose deep in some new crafting project, a good film or on an adventure with friends discovering a new restaurant or place to explore. There's so much I hope to share with you all and so much I still hope to learn from each of you! Together I know we can build a truly dynamic youth ministry program here at Transfiguration and personally I'm ecstatic to tackle this with you all. So I'd like to invite you to join me in this adventure, whether you're a regular at youth group or never given it a try - all are welcome and all of you will play a role in making this something special. God has a lot up His sleeve for us this year, so I truly hope you will join me as we see where He takes us!

Living Your Catholic Faith in a Relativistic World

What is “right” and “wrong”? Is what’s right for you right for me? Is

there a right and wrong for everyone, all the time?

These are difficult questions to discuss in our culture. We live in a

society that supports the opinion that each person should make up his

or her own morality—that there is no moral truth that applies to

everyone. Many of us have been affected by the relativistic outlook

that pervades the modern world. Maybe some of us wonder whether

there really is an absolute right and wrong for everyone. Or maybe we

accept that there is a moral standard for all, but we don’t know how to

explain our moral convictions in a convincing way. Maybe some of us

are afraid of saying something is immoral because we’re afraid of

offending others or of being labeled intolerant. How do we talk about

morality in a relativistic world?

In this small group study program featuring Edward Sri, we'll explore

the classical view of morality and find that it’s not merely a set of

guiding principles for theoretical situations—it is an entire way of life.

This study will be held on Thursday evening, July 27, 6:30 pm – 9 pm,

Friday evening, 6 pm – 9 pm, and Saturday, 8 am – 3 pm. Food will be

served at all of the sessions. Babysitting will be arranged it needed.

Please contact the office if you require babysitting so that we can

have volunteers available.

A Prayer for Freedom—Heavenly Father, you have given us the gifts of life and liberty and entrust to your people

the duty to guard these gifts wherever they are threatened. Help us to protect the freedom of all to follow the Gospel

of your Son, Jesus Christ, and to bring his light and truth to the ends of the earth. Guide all who play a role in

enacting legislation to uphold the freedom of conscience of all citizens. Send us your Spirit to inspire in us the

wisdom and courage needed to witness to the truth and to stand up for all whose religious liberty is endangered. We

ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen. Mary Immaculate, Patroness of our country, pray for us.
