The Roy Academic Scholarship Description and Qualifications The Roy Academic Scholarship is to be awarded to a senior who has a strong desire for higher education and upholds the ideals ofkindness, integrity, and perseverance. The amount of the scholarship will be $1,000.00 for the recipient's first year of college. To be eligible for the Roy Academic Scholarship. the applicant must: o Be a graduating senior at Slidell High School. o Have attended Slidell High School three consecutive semesters prior to the date ofthe application. o Must be a resident of St. Tammany Parish. o Have no suspensions. o Possess good character and ambitious purpose. o Have participated in extracurricular and/or church, community activities or other service to Slidell High School. o Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). Information reouired to be on hand before an application will be considered: o A completed application with r6sum6 and essay attached. o The applicant's high school transcript showing grades eamed through the first semester ofthe applicant's senior year. o Recommendation letter completed by one ofapplicant's high school teachers o One letter of recommendation from one of the following people o Principal or assistant principal ofSlidell High School . Local minister, priest or rabbi . Community leader, local business person, or applicant's employer Deadline for Apolication: o No later than Friday, April l, ofthe applicant's senior year. o Forms are available in the senior counselor's office. A final note from the family: It is very important to us that the student be a well-rounded, outgoing individual who gives freely ofhis/her time and talents to others.
